Derek Carr - Why People Dislike Him (IMO) (1 Viewer)

The underlying problem with Carr is not that he is arrogant, condesending, self-centered and a jerk, it's that he doesn't see these things about himself and refuses to take ownership. He literally told a reporter "I'm not going to be negative with you brother." Pretending to take the high road while talking down with the 'brother' comment. Still can't believe this guy surived in Oakland as long as he did. Clearly lives in a bubble.

why is "brother" talking down?

I say brother a lot.

So did Hulk Hogan.

Was he talking down to the Hulkamaniacs this whole time?

As is everyone (hopefully) else, I’m very displeased with Derek Carr. I got to thinking last night after our game and I’d had a bit to settle down…why do I dislike this person so much?

I grew up playing high school football and we always sucked, I’m used to not winning every game.

When he blames his teammates in public the way he does, I cannot BELIEVE this staff doesn’t discipline him for this. This is why we are losing. None of his teammates, thank God, are toddlers like he is. So they are going to praise him. Heck even Jameis will only publicly say good things.

Derek Carr sucking on the field is one thing, he’s clearly lost and is a terrible QB. But the fact that he’s disrespectful to his teammates, and the leadership (coaches and FO) think it’s ok to gaslight fans into believing we are good and he’s doing great is perplexing.

I remember Drew being upset with receivers for running the wrong routes. Not one time do I ever remember him, with a camera on him, throwing his hands up and blaming the receiver. Never! What I did see was Drew walk over to the sidelines and grab his tablet and the receiver and sort things out. Hell he’d even take blame for others’ mistakes. As a professional, this is the biggest way to win over your team.

I know we can compare DC to Drew, they’re in a totally different universe. On the field, I’m ok with that. Off the field is where DC aggravated the ever living hell out of me. Grow up already. And the staff acting like it’s ok is ridiculous. He should be benched for a game the next time he blows up at someone like that. I don’t care who plays QB, get this clown away from my team.

We were so spoiled with, probably the best leader to ever play professional sports. Drew even impacted the way I lead in my own professional life. My family, my team, etc. Leaders take fault for losing and leaders give credit to everyone else for winning. Yes we want to win, but it’s like double losing when you have such a terrible person at QB, which is a leadership position.
Drew would get all up in ya business, He had the respect where you shut up and listen and do your best to get on the same page. Also he had Payton enforcing it as well. Carr is not Drew on thing to be fair to remember. Carr needs to play better, i do think he is trying to over compensate cause of lack of accountability with being the one that has to do it, i dont think he likes being the one to have to do it and team is not responding well to him. But its rubbing the wrong way when his bad play has a lot to do with the struggles.

People dislike him because he hasn't played well. They may say it's about his "attitude" or whatever, but none of them would care about him getting upset with players if he were playing like Mahomes or Brady or Rodgers, or any number of QBs who often got on their own players during games.
This is definitely a huge part of it. But he’s also turned off a lot of people with his actions, lack of accountability and apparent sense of entitlement. We’ve had worse QBs who didn’t elicit this type of reaction.

Something just comes off as aloof. Like he feels like he should be above criticism and questioning from media, etc.

Why people hate him:

- He's fake. I guarantee he's phony as hell. Acts one way but will throw you under the bus with the swiftness.
- Arrogant - He thinks he's WAYYYY better than he is. You can get away with some of his sheet if you can back it up. He cannot.
- Eyeliner - This one is probably unfair, but it's a reason...
- Terrible leadership runs in the family. Nobody really liked David either. The Carrs are like the Instagram/TikTok moms who know everything and put on this fake arse front for their followers but are a total trainwreck in real life...

Is it eyeliner? I was giving him
The benefit of the doubt that he just had strange eyes?

I have no idea, but you know for sure once he rubs teammates the wrong way, they're thinking, I'm not taking sheet from some clown who wears mascara (allegedly) .
Told you. Dude wears eyeliner. -Gary - AFC West Trash Talkers | Facebook

If we weren't all aware of the salary cap and how much his salary is affecting the rest of the team, he'd probably just be disappointing. Because he is costing so much of our resources and producing so little, it is enraging to see him prance around or listen to his phoney word salad.

I honestly don't give a stuff if he yells at the Oline or a lazy receiver. Someone has to.

For me, it really comes down to his smug attitude and not accepting responsibility for the offensive performance. Sure, he's bad at quarterback right now but so is Jameis and I don't hate Jameis. The offensive line and receiving corps could be better for him for sure, however, he is the QB of the team and by far the highest paid player on the roster. He is dismissive to the media when given the opportunity to take responsibility for the performance of the offense and never singles himself out on how he could be better. When you add in the fact that he's more than willing to show up his teammates on the field who have done their best to not do the same to him all season long when he's been deserving, it adds up to a very dislikeable player. We're not expecting him to be Drew Brees but when more people look at your backup QB as a leader, that is an issue.

I want to like him - he has proven his toughness and I think his arm talent is there. I'm still hopeful that things can turn around with him at the helm but after the McCoy situation and the overall performance yesterday, I'm afraid we're at the point of no return.

While I got caught up in the offseason happiness we had a new QB and he had a needed change of scenery, my initial strong reaction when we signed him was that he was going to have to play much better than he did in Oakland. Oakland with him was most always an underwhelming offense on the scoreboard. So now unfortunately he still plays like he did with the Raiders, and I feel like our team identity is the crappy Raiders.

So I hate him for not elevating the Saints and the reasons ya'll have mentioned. But the big problem now is that he is totally not a culture fit for the team or the fans and the city. He could ignore criticism and mediocre play in Oakland and Vegas, because those fanbases (with Oakland knowing for years they were losing their team again) was NOT anything that matches the passion of our fan base.

His sucking and behavior is disrespectful to the city and the fanbase. He was going to have to lead our offense in spite of DA and Pete, and he can't do it. He's a fraud. And the team has no margin of error because of how they manage the cap.

Win and be a culture fit for the team and fanbase, or else. DA is not a culture fit either as a HC, and I'm counting down to Black Monday even though I think DA gets a 3rd year.

I initially didn’t like the signing not because of him personally - I don’t know the guy, but I always thought he was an average QB. Then the season started, and while his stats weren’t great, we went 2-0 and I started thinking that maybe it could work. No.
Anyway, besides his consistently poor attitude on the field (which has been surprising to me), I’m actually more bothered by the fact that he hasn’t improved as a QB over his tenure in the NFL. I think about another mid-tier QB, Geno Smith, who has worked and improved his play over time. Heck, think about the greats: Brees, Brady, P. Manning, et. al. - before AND after these dudes hit their primes, they worked to get better in every facet of their position and I don’t see that from Carr. He’s the same QB he’s always been - Jekyl and Hyde, and that’s what bothers me.

Carr has been let down by a weak HC and poor OC just as much or more as he has let down that same weak HC and poor OC… it goes both ways. It’s not all on 1 person. This entire coaching staff needs to get a visit from the Turk… and Carr will go down as one of the worst (if not THE worst) FA signing this franchise has ever made.

On a side note… go watch the latest NO.football podcast on YouTube (the one where they talk about the Carolina game just after it ended).
Watch the way Nick talks about Derek Carr. You can tell he’s completely over that dude,
and pretty much disgusted by him. I agree Nick.

*This was the first time I’ve heard Nick say that it would actually be a BAD thing for this team to make the playoffs. That’s coming from a guy whose livelihood revolves around this team and NO sports, and he sees this ship is rudderless and sinking.
