Derek Carr - Why People Dislike Him (IMO) (1 Viewer)

I have no idea, but you know for sure once he rubs teammates the wrong way, they're thinking, I'm not taking sheet from some clown who wears mascara (allegedly) .

And for the record, like many here I was very pleased with the signing thinking that he could have a fresh start with the Saints because of the change in scenery, but honestly I did not really look into why he was shipped off from the Raiders.

I do remember him being benched being a the subject of some controversy his last year with the Raiders.

I wish DA would sit his arse down now just to remove his head from it before taking the field again.

Can we also admit that dude's o line is garbage? Pass blocking is bad. All the defense has to do is send one guy on a blitz. It works EVERY time. Carr has like 2 seconds, and then he's getting sacked. It's bad. And then run blocking from this o line is even worse. Have you guys watched this team try to run the ball this tear? It's laughable.

His benching was contract related. They feared him getting hurt which would guarantee his salary. That was one of the most insane reasons for benching a player I've ever seen and the people responsible for it have both been fired since.

I wouldn't say it's garbage. It was terrible at the beginning of the season, but it's gotten a bit better.

Combine inconsistent O-line play with a QB with very little pocket presence and who holds the ball too long is more accurate.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Carr is the only problem, but at this point a very big one.

Carr has been let down by a weak HC and poor OC just as much or more as he has let down that same weak HC and poor OC… it goes both ways. It’s not all on 1 person. This entire coaching staff needs to get a visit from the Turk… and Carr will go down as one of the worst (if not THE worst) FA signing this franchise has ever made.

On a side note… go watch the latest NO.football podcast on YouTube (the one where they talk about the Carolina game just after it ended).
Watch the way Nick talks about Derek Carr. You can tell he’s completely over that dude,
and pretty much disgusted by him. I agree Nick.

*This was the first time I’ve heard Nick say that it would actually be a BAD thing for this team to make the playoffs. That’s coming from a guy whose livelihood revolves around this team and NO sports, and he sees this ship is rudderless and sinking.

I added a link to the Underhill video. Nick sums up the state of this team well, and I can tell how disappointed he is in the Saints and completely done with Carr

They are garbage. Last week they let him get driven into the ground, which broke his rib and concussed him a second time in 3 weeks without even a glance at the defender that laid the cheap shot on him. Then this week McCoy goes off unhinged after Carr gets hit again because Ruiz absolutely whiffed on his 1 on 1 block of a linebacker.

Carr hasn't been good. But he hangs in there as long as he can to try to make a play out of a lot of bad play calls.

Reb yesterdays Oline performance was laughable.

I went to game and posted on Gameday thread early on in late first/early second- they are actually worse to watch in person.

I posted this at 12:27 -so late first Q

"
At the game, our Oline is horrible. They have gotten worse as season has gone on.

The only good run plays are cut backs...any time RB actually follows the block, it's no gain.

Pass protection is gone"

One scheme i saw repeated- the LDE would "rush" Ram up field - while at same time the DL would engage Ruiz up a step or two then LATERAL for another step or two.

The first two steps collapses the pocket for Carr to step into. The LATERAL steps then position him for when Carr attempts to vacate thru that opening ( left by LDE rushing upfield )

It worked almost every time they ran it in the first half on passing downs.

It was crazy that we couldnt even block it up right.

I want to say Carr was hit on close to 60% of his drop backs Sunday and i would also bet that his "time to throw" was less than 1.8 seconds on 75% of passing plays. ( and what i mean is that a defender is within arms length of Carr )

i would love for someone to scout that film

Meh, I don't think people care about that stuff as much as you think. Just play well and it all goes away.

I see this type of rhetoric repeated over and over with different players and different sports. Unless you are actually doing horrible things in society, just play better and people won't care anymore.

The guys has clearly fallen short of expectations but removing his head seems a little harsh.

Carr has plenty of flaws, but I think he gets way too much hate and blame.

Drew Brees ruined this franchise forever.

He is the gold standard for competitiveness, leadership, hard work, dedication, and winning.

No one else will ever live up to Drew, and some segment of our fanbase will have vitriol for whoever we have under center, because they too, will fall short of the standards that Drew set.
Agree to a large degree. It's the reason some fans think every late round WR will be Colston, every UDFA RB will be Pierre Thomas etc.

With each new DA thread I read, the more I feel like pounding my head into a wall. :banghead: It's been a long time since the SSF has felt so hopeless over the direction of our Saints; and rightfully so! None of us ever wanted to see our team so ravaged by poor leadership and team performance. And as badly as we want it fixed, we all know that there is nothing personally that any of us can really do about it. Even when we win, it feels like we are still losers! And the reality of this dumpster fire is making me crazy!

Ever since we had a taste of the NFL 'good life', it's really been hard to accept going back to the starting line. I (for one) no longer expect to win football games... even against the weaker teams. In fact, most of us are predicting only misery for as long as certain members of the staff & team have prominent roles in the future of the Saints. And I believe that we are right! The current leadership is dreadful and it leaves us with nothing left to do but to complain about what we no longer are as a football team.

I'll admit, I haven't been this pessimistic about the Saints since before the Mora years. :covri: No one expected the Saints to crumble to the state we now find the team. Especially with what we previously believe to be a pretty good supply of talent on both sides of the ball. But if we truly have the talent; then we lack the leadership. If the leadership is there; then the players simply can't be as good as we thought. Personally I think the real issue is a little of both. But the sad part is that these things may not change anytime soon. It's a miserable feeling... and I just wasn't ready for it.

I'll also admit that I was in favor of grabbing Carr to be our new QB. I also didn't think that Grupe was a bad choice to be our kicker. I didn't really see enough of Hedley to know if we were getting a good punter or not. I expected to see a better running game, an improved pass rush, and a reliable receiving corps that would ensure that offensive drives would continue all the way to the endzone. With our cupcake schedule in 2023 I expected to see the return of 40-burger victories galore. Instead our goal each week is the hope of breaking the 20 point barrier. DA keeps rolling snake eyes. What a collapse! :mad1:

All I can say at this point is that I really want the Saints to turn back into a contender. I want our team to have a chance to win decisively in every game they play. I want whatever it takes to make the Saints a winning organization that we can all be proud of and can compete for championships again! This kind of losing can no longer be an acceptable. Other teams have been able to return to the glory they formerly basked in. I want that again, and I want it sooner than later. And I know that you folks want it too! Is anyone else as miserable about the state of our team as I am feeling right now?
