Derek Carr - Why People Dislike Him (IMO) (1 Viewer)

People dislike him because he hasn't played well. They may say it's about his "attitude" or whatever, but none of them would care about him getting upset with players if he were playing like Mahomes or Brady or Rodgers, or any number of QBs who often got on their own players during games.

Sure, but Mahomes, Brady, Rodgers, they talk the talk and walk the walk. If you walk the walk, you can talk the talk. If you can't walk the walk, shut the hell up.

They are garbage. Last week they let him get driven into the ground, which broke his rib and concussed him a second time in 3 weeks without even a glance at the defender that laid the cheap shot on him. Then this week McCoy goes off unhinged after Carr gets hit again because Ruiz absolutely whiffed on his 1 on 1 block of a linebacker.

Carr hasn't been good. But he hangs in there as long as he can to try to make a play out of a lot of bad play calls.
FWIW - Per PFF, 23 QB's (minimum 182 dropbacks) have seen a higher rate of dropbacks under pressure than Carr this year. Carr is under pressure on 33.3% of his dropbacks. The worst is Justin Fields at 47.8%. The best is Tua at 21.7%.

In fairness, Carr is a lot less of a statue than Andy Dalton was. However, he clearly cannot move around the pocket and feel pressure the way that Drew Brees did. It’s also notable that we could ease up the rush if we were better at running screenplays, called draws more frequently and ran a little bit of play action, all of these things result in problems for our offense; the line has played poorly, carr does not handle pressure well and Carmichael does not game plan to help relieve pressure from the pass rush.

I’ve been wondering where the heck is the draw play to kamara? My biggest complaint with the offensive play calling right now is not getting kamara into space. He always has guys draped all over him. we’re too predictable

Even going back to last year we have not found a way to get the most out of kamara ..he has 10 tds in 25 games. This is a guy who should be around 1 td a game.

Kamara's average depth of target with Carr is 0.1 yards. With Winston, I believe it's 1.2 yards and with Taysom it's 1.1 yards. Then again, different OC when Jameis and Taysom were starting and the new OC publicly said he didn't know how to effectively utilize Kamara. Imagine having one of the biggest mismatch generators in football and not having a clue on how to use him.

We all sit here and argue about Carrs ability ( or lack of )
WRs
TEs
RBs
blocking scheme

and we have a guy RUNNING the ENTIRE OFFENSIVE GAME PLAN who has publicly stated he doesnt know how to use AK.

Carr has plenty of flaws, but I think he gets way too much hate and blame.

Drew Brees ruined this franchise forever.

He is the gold standard for competitiveness, leadership, hard work, dedication, and winning.

No one else will ever live up to Drew, and some segment of our fanbase will have vitriol for whoever we have under center, because they too, will fall short of the standards that Drew set.
Thank goodness he “ruined” it, as you say. He’s among the few sports figures I’d ever want to hold up to my child and use as an example of good character.

This is really the bottom line. You can openly demand things when your business is airtight. If not then don’t take your failure out on others.

You may (or not) be right but he isn't playing anywhere near that level and to call out guys who are often playing better than him is pretty outrageous. I was psyched when we signed him and was willing to let him get acclimated but even before the Olave incident I noticed him yelling at people.

Like Kamara said it's time to stop talking and start doing.

I wish we had kept Dalton.

The reason you never saw Drew doing those things is because Sean Payton was doing those things himself. Like a good head coach would. Somebody has to get P'Oed during games and make those corrections on the spot. Our coaches have left that job to Carr because nobody else on the field seems to care.
Fear left the building when SP left

As is everyone (hopefully) else, I’m very displeased with Derek Carr. I got to thinking last night after our game and I’d had a bit to settle down…why do I dislike this person so much?

I grew up playing high school football and we always sucked, I’m used to not winning every game.

When he blames his teammates in public the way he does, I cannot BELIEVE this staff doesn’t discipline him for this. This is why we are losing. None of his teammates, thank God, are toddlers like he is. So they are going to praise him. Heck even Jameis will only publicly say good things.

Derek Carr sucking on the field is one thing, he’s clearly lost and is a terrible QB. But the fact that he’s disrespectful to his teammates, and the leadership (coaches and FO) think it’s ok to gaslight fans into believing we are good and he’s doing great is perplexing.

I remember Drew being upset with receivers for running the wrong routes. Not one time do I ever remember him, with a camera on him, throwing his hands up and blaming the receiver. Never! What I did see was Drew walk over to the sidelines and grab his tablet and the receiver and sort things out. Hell he’d even take blame for others’ mistakes. As a professional, this is the biggest way to win over your team.

I know we can compare DC to Drew, they’re in a totally different universe. On the field, I’m ok with that. Off the field is where DC aggravated the ever living hell out of me. Grow up already. And the staff acting like it’s ok is ridiculous. He should be benched for a game the next time he blows up at someone like that. I don’t care who plays QB, get this clown away from my team.

We were so spoiled with, probably the best leader to ever play professional sports. Drew even impacted the way I lead in my own professional life. My family, my team, etc. Leaders take fault for losing and leaders give credit to everyone else for winning. Yes we want to win, but it’s like double losing when you have such a terrible person at QB, which is a leadership position.
This is ridiculous. I watched 3 different QBs get on WR this weekend because they screwed up. But their fans are not hating on them. Some of ya'll are looking for things to gripe about on this guy. And ALL of you would shut your mouths if we were 10-3

Let’s remove the Drew factor out bc I’m sure we all knew that things were not going to be that level for awhile.

I have yet to go hard on DC4 as of now. I still think he could be a viable option for us, but his deficiencies in the redzone and not calling out the correct protection on 3rd down blitzes are a little concerning. I could be off base, but those are 2 very important things for an offense.
This not calling out correct protections on 3d down blitzes on that sack that McCoy got hot about is RUBBISH and Vilma was WRONG sorry even great LB's can make a mistake from the broadcast booth. DC VERY clearly said "49 is the Mike " before the snap. 49 was RUIZ's responsibility so much so that AK ON THAT SIDE felt he could slip out on a checkdown route. It was Ruiz's fault he whiffed on the block SMH
