Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (2 Viewers)

I think this is likely. Reich has gone through Rivers, Wentz and Ryan over 3 years. The Panthers have had a turnstile since Cam left. Time for them (Reich and the Panthers) to develop a QB.

The Jets want Rodgers.

Indy's new coach got the job because he presented a plan of how he would develop a young QB.

Tampa seems to like Trask and have cap issues (as we do, but we seem more willing to kick the can).

I don't see any way that Carr goes to Houston.

Atlanta's owner and coach like Ridder.

While Derek is in a unique situation, I'm not sure he will have many suitors.

I saw an interview on All Access where David said his brother was looking for a couple of things. A good defense was one of the things on the list. Not having to chase and outscore your opponent can be a QB's best friend.

I see this all the time, and it's annoying....The NFC South was a mess last year, that doesn't mean it will (or won't) be this year....things change fast in the NFL....and then folks act all shocked when they do....one single good draft and FA acquisitions can turn a team around quickly.....
100% correct all it takes is the right signings and hit on a couple draft picks just like you said. Then suddenly that team is a contender. The Panthers are not that far off, we are not that far off and if the Bucs score up a QB, just like us they are right back in it. Not too long ago the NFC west was in the dumps they bounced back. The NFC least turned into the NFC beast in a single season. They had 3 in the playoffs and the Redskins just missed. The North has been a mess and if Rodgers moves it will get worse but again the right FA move and a couple of good picks they can be right back in it.

What kills me right now is the NFC as a whole is just in the dumps so almost anyone can make it into the Super Bowl. All we need is to get better QB play and some injury luck. Carr could have done that for us but he can also do that for just about any NFC south team so ….. we had better keep looking under every rock to find someone.

I’m leaning Jimmy G Jets due to Salehs comfort with him from the 49ers.

The Jets will find a way to mess everything up because they’re the Jets.
They’ll go after Rodgers because they need a “name QB” to compete with the Giants.

I have a feeling some years down the road we're going to be talking about how we had a chance to draft Hooker but signed Carr instead.

I really don't understand the money thing with the Raiders. Yes, Davis is not independently wealthy, but the team is still making profits, right? All owners share revenue but are they in the hole or Davis is just cheap?

My understanding is guaranteed money goes into escrow. If you have years of guaranteed (not roster bonus) money tied up in escrow, are cash poor after relocation fees, and you have a 40M decision to make on a QB that’s not performing, then maybe you cut bait and get cheap.

Yes, Hurts turned out better than anyone expected. But, that's not the norm. There's a reason you don't have 15 elite QBs. I don't think this draft has any.

I would like to pushback halfway.
There’s this line of thinking that tearing the entire franchise apart, trading everyone for draft picks and tanking for the number one pick is an automatic way to a franchise QB.
Mahomes wasn’t picked at one.
Hurts wasn’t either.
Allen wasn’t.

When you read what the Eagles did to set Hurts up for success, it is the norm. Geno turned a lot of heads this season but the same concept applies. Skill mean nothing if you aren't put in a position to maximize it. The reason you don't have 15 elite QBs is because you don't have 15 elite coaches/scheme. Not every offense is plug and play like Andy Reid's and Kyle Shanahan's. In most offenses, you have to build around your players.

Well, I guess so much for maybe a deal having been reached during his visit and we were just waiting for him to get cut. Damn. I was hoping 10 minutes after being cut the deal was announced
Well he can't be signed by anyone till March 15 after 3:59. New NFL year. No reason for him not to visit other teams. Watching the offense last year there was a complete lack of creativity. Does Pete break out of his conservative un-creative style? Doubt it.

This is not true. That date and time pertains to expiring contracts. Carr’s contract isn’t expiring; he’s been released from it, and is free to sign with whoever he wants whenever he wants.

Which is why I find it very interesting that we are already restructuring guys, something we historically wait until the last minute before free agency to do.
