Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (2 Viewers)

A reminder that Derek Carr is now more than a week removed from his visit to N.O., and there has yet to be any rumblings of him visiting with any other franchise, even post-release.

Meanwhile, New Orleans is uncharacteristically getting a one month early start on restructuring player contracts to get under the cap.

Just sayin'

I hear what you're saying but Dalton was never a Franchise QB. Once upon a time he was one of the top 20 QBs, but there's only around 8 franchise QBs in the league at any given time. I've never thought of Dalton as someone who was going to win games for the Bengals.

That being said. If you can't get Carr or Fields, I think Dalton is better than any other option currently in the NFL.
Franchise doesn't necessarily mean elite. He was once a good quarterback for the Bengals. Took them to the playoffs and had some decent season. But he is a vet. Fitzpatrick never took any teams to the playoffs but he was serviceable. I just don't understand why the play callings seemed to cater like there is a rookie behind center.

Because that's how SP played it in Brees' final couple of years, and that approach seemed to carry over post-Brees.

It's like PC is used to that ultra-conservative style now or something and has never re-adjusted.

Watching the Super Bowl, and all the motion and creativity of those two teams made me feel like we have a park ball playbook.

Fields isn't available... just rumors at the current time.

My opinion is that Baker Mayfield is a better fit our offense.

Dalton is a better option than Mayfield. Doesn't make sense to downgrade at the QB position. If you're making a change, get an overall better QB (Carr) or a younger, more dynamic QB (Fields). But going from a better QB to Mayfield doesn't make any sense at all.

If Sean Payton was here to coach Baker up, I'd 100% agree with you. Without that, however, I don't see Baker's ceiling being any higher here than it was anywhere else.

Agree with this. I feel a lot better about guys like Baker, and either Zach Wilson, if SP were here.

Damn I miss our coach.

Eh, right now, Mayfield is better than Dalton. Not by much, but, he's younger, more mobile and better overall talent. That said, Carr is miles better than either one of them.

Park ball has motion than our offense and I’m glad more people are starting to see that play calling was a bigger issue than anything this season. Some of us have been saying this since the beginning of the season. This offense had the makings to take us back to the prime Brees days but we got the play calling for the post shoulder injury 2017-2020 Brees. Add that plus predictable sets and zero motion….trash. If anyone thinks any QB can fix that play calling, I don’t know what to tell you.

The hope is new QB + PC realizing how awful he was last year and committing to revamping things, perhaps with some urging from our head coach.

Is it possible that the offensive play calling was hindered by having mostly backups in all season? 2 rookie receivers, a developing former WR at TE, shifting starting Oline lineups and a quarterback that was never intended to start likely contributed to a lot of the vanilla playcalling. PC isn’t Payton but he was around all those years and did have a lot of success when he was given the opportunity to be the play caller. I’d like to see what he can do with an offense that stays healthy and with a smart, talented QB before writing all that history off and accepting that he’s just a terrible OC.

I'm sure there are a lot of things that they wish they would have done differently. But, a lot went wrong last season. The offense was designed around a different QB then you had all the injuries, and that limits a lot of what you can do. But, one thing that just occurred to me is that Payton would always go over the game plan with Drew and find out what he was comfortable with. I would imagine Pete would do the same with AD. So, I think that part of it was all the turnover on offense and starting rookies or guys off the street, and Andy not being comfortable with the O-line or the guys he's throwing to. And combine that with confidence with the defense to keep the score low.

Pete's offense when he has the tools and QB, is very aggressive - 62 - 7. It's hard to put up 60 points in the NFL. Pete could have called off the dogs early in that game but kept piling it on. I might be in the minority or even the only one, but I'm actually kinda excited if the Saints can get Carr and somehow keep MT....and stay healthy.

This wasn’t a progressive thing. The horrible play calling was apparent the first half of week 1. I agree with you on one thing, PC isn’t Payton because CSP was the head coach who had complete control over the offense. I am in the camp believing DA had way to much influence on the direction of the offense, for his reasons. So PC had to design around what DA wanted instead of what was best for personnel. I give PC benefit of the doubt but DA….nah
