Early take on how we match up next week vs. Dallas? (6 Viewers)

Cleveland is definitely not one of the worst teams in the league. Vegas had them favored by -4 most of the week and was -2 today. They had the #1 defense in the NFL last year. There was nothing unimpressive by Dallas' win today.
Yeah, the Browns aren't a bad team. Definitely not top tier, but they can be a playoff team. Carolina, not anytime soon.

Right. They are a horrible offense but not a bad defense at all
I thought that too until I looked them up. Carolina is ranked last or near last on defense out of all 32 teams to start the season.

Dallas will be many levels higher with their front 4. Carr had time today. Dallas will get there much quicker and we’ll see if Carr can handle an accelerated need to get the ball out.

Establishing the running game will negate that rush.

If we can run the ball, we win.

Just my opinion.

If we can't run the ball.. we will get wrecked.

Browns were 11-6 and made the playoffs last year. Expected to again this year.

Next week, the Saints have better skill players but Dallas has the advantage in the trenches. Which matters more.

It worked out. You don't throw it back across the middle of the field against your body late in the redzone. You just don't do it, especially on 2nd and goal from the 3. Do it next week and Diggs will be scoring a TD.

And that was one of Carr's two mistakes today. The other was hitting the truck stick up 20 for no other reason than to do it.

The rest of the game he played flawless.
Watching it live, the field was open for him to run, he clearly had no intention. If he were to expand on that portion of his game there were a ton of yards left on the field.

I believe The cowboys has a bunch of rookies on their Oline. I think Alontae Taylor will have a shot at a couple of sacks on dak via a blitz. He just can’t miss them.

After seeing the offense today, I think they had a decent shot to beat the Cowboys. I think the defense will be fine since Dallas has no running game and Dak isn't a runner at his age. They are essentially one dimensional and that will allow Young and the rest of the DL to keep constant pressure which should keep them in check with the coverage we have on the back end. Dallas' OL did not look particularly good today.

But, I think the key will be whether we can run the ball. If we can, the play action will be more effective and it keeps Parsons from just firing off every play. They will likely also use some screen to keep the pass rush under control.

Strangely, my biggest concern may be whether Foster Moreau can play after his concussion. He was really good run blocking today and we are going to need that to keep the running game going. Juwan Johnson just hasn't been the blocker we will need at TE to keep the run game churning. But, maybe he has improved and it will be fine.

I agree but I also don't really want him taking hits. So run it and if you can't get in without trying to run someone over step out or slide and we are sitting third and goal from the 1-2. I like our odds.

I'm not trying to dog on Carr either, dude played out of his mind. He has had a really long history of red zone struggles and RZ interceptions. I think he may lead the league in redzone pics since he came into the league. The RedZone is the area he has to improve the most. If that was 4th and goal with the game on the line then fine but it was 2nd and goal. Thank god when #2 turned his head he didn't locate the ball until it was halfway to Moreau and then made a really lazy play on it. It even looked like he got distracted when the ref threw his hat to signal that the players ran out of bounds.

The other saving grace was #2 stepped out of bounds so even if he had made the interception then it is illegal touching and wouldn't have counted. No way Carr picked up on that since he already had his arm cocked when Jackson stepped out.

I can guarantee Carr, Kubiak and DA are all saying the exact same thing in film study. Thankfully it did not matter and everyone makes mistakes.

It did bring back some good memories though as it reminded me of this.

Then the Packers did it in the playoffs last year.

It will be a dog fight to beat Dallas, I know people like to hate on them on here, but as you all know we are not really the best Saints team as of late even in our Golden age we had a decade or so back we struggled beating them most of the time. And in a lot of ways the past couple of years these have been better Cowboys teams than they have had in a while.
Saints seemed to alternate wins & losses vs Dallas in the Payton era, going 5-4 with a +27 point differential in that time. (6-4, +30 if you include 2012.)

If we can’t run the ball to slow that front down we are going to get a reality check. Originally before our game today I figured we’d be around a 10.5 point underdog. Today we are currently a 6.5 point underdog which probably gets up to 7.5 or so.

All of that means is we are seemingly better than many anticipated but there’s still a lot of unknowns. We will find out a lot about our team over the next 3 games.

I’ll say this, we are better than we’ve been offensively from a scheme stand point in a long time.

Our tackles will struggle, but I trust we will have a plan. We will need our number 3 receiver, tight ends and backs out the backfield to be big. Defense won’t look nearly as good as we did today but if we can hold them to 24 or less, we have a shot.

Not sure how you can really rank a defense before the season starts.

Anway, that's why they need to run the ball to set up play action.
