Elon Musk makes $43 Billion offer for private buyout of Twitter (1 Viewer)

Elon has reinstated Alex jone's account... I wonder how long before he has a show on there, like Tucker Carlson?

Elon is doing everything he can to tank Twitter for some reason
He’s attracting the audience he wants.

The thing is if he’s Mr Free Speech, then the losses shouldn’t bother him. If the richest person in the world can’t afford to prop up his free speech platform, does he really believe in it?

yep, he may as well buyout Parlor and Truth Social and they can have the biggest "Free Speech" circle jerk in history..

Despite the name and branding change, X still uses the twitter.com domain, meaning it’s easy to track how traffic to the site has evolved.

Comparing the numbers from April 2022 (66,397,934) when the takeover was announced to November 2022 (61,176,937) when it was completed, site traffic fell by 7.86 per cent as concerns for the future of the platform grew.

One year on, traffic has grown by 22.3 per cent from November 22-23 with 74,844,760 visits, reaching its highest value since February 2022. All things considered, this statistic is a surprising one, indicating that despite all of the controversy and split opinions on the platform, it’s now the most popular that it’s been in 18 months. Whether this is down to new/returning users or people flocking to the site to see the chaos unfold is difficult to say, however, the numbers speak for themselves.

I think it's a combination of factors. The train wreck effect, migration from Truth Social, bots, and the return of the radicals that were banned along with followers.

Something feels cherry picked tbh, most traffic analysis I’ve seen shows downward trends. Even X has said the user base is down (or something to that effect). Every article I’ve found mentioning the increase looks like a copy/paste of the same thing, while most other sites still have traffic down. I was interested in reading more, but the info just really isn’t out there.

Though I’m not sure any raw traffic stat really “matters” - like the X feed on the side of SR still counts as traffic to the site. Engagement and monetizable (let’s go with that :hihi: ) users are what’s important when it comes to ad supporting the platform.

The app fell out of the top 100 downloaded while threads is #1. There are many different metrics on social media - I think most have been trending down significantly.

That article doesn’t really explain anything or how it’s obtained except for “site visits”. I’m skeptical - especially because there is other (explained and cited) data showing the opposite, and all before the exodus to threads that began in October.

Posting based social media is in rapid decline in general. Young people have ditched it for video and people who were once power users are leaving Twitter/X in droves, while Facebook is a smoldering wasteland.

The era of "social media" as we know it in the 2010s is ending.

Indeed. Probably half our staff is in their 20s and most of them never even had a Twitter account. It’s been all Snapchat -> TikTok for them
