Extending WiFi range (1 Viewer)

Whatever you do, do NOT download any updates from Net Gear. My Orbi got toasted from the update immediately after downloading and Net Gear showed me no mercy.

They recently sent out some virus/add blocker that was on the router. They gave it free for a couple weeks and then wanted me to pay for it. I did not. I wonder if that is the update that messed up your stuff?

It was one with virus protection. it was a few months ago though.
Support was almost as bad as Verizon and believe me, that's bad.

Net Gear also manufactures the Arlo camera system which I also owned.
It went out not long after the Orbi. Net Gear wouldn't cover that either.
They will no longer get my endorsement.

I have 2 Eero beacons and both are in hallways with lots of space. Wifi signal isn't going to degrade much over a few pieces of furniture, unless the furniture is made of lead. I like the simple plug at the outlet design. The extenders my company markets and sells to ATT have a cord like you said. I hate that because now I have to find a place to set the damn thing on.

Oh I think it works well depending on your home setup. There were only like two devices in my small place that even connected to the beacons. Almost all of them would choose the pro signal even if a beacon was closer. I figured I may as well have the best solo router in that case. The set up on the eero was the easiest I’ve seen and the parental controls and remote functionality were also as good as you could imagine. I would reconsider the set again. But I would prefer all pros. And the eero pro does have incredible range.

It's probably the same one. I didn't download it until a few weeks ago because I had not opened the app in many months. It prompted me to do it when I opened the app. I have had not issues, but it could be that they fixed the bugs in the time between when you downloaded and I did.

I was not really a Netgear fan before I got the Orbi, but it works for me. I had ASUS Wi-Fi routers for years before this after switching from Netgear routers. I reluctantly went with a Netgear's Orbi because the online and personal reviews I heard were good and it has been great so far. That being said, for all I know there are better Mesh systems out there made by others and I have had mine for two years so there are probably better ones on the market now. I just know Mesh is the way to go.

Absolutely. 100%

So far the TP link is as good or better than Orbi for a third of what I paid back then for the Orbi. I don't even know what Orbi costs now.

Office thingys are cool

if you own the home do your self a favor and run really good Ethernet back there. You can still use a WiFi Broadcast of some sort but getting it by Ethernet to a much closer point is still the best bet in my book. If not and you have a few hundred then you can’t go wrong with a three eero mesh system. Eero is owned by Amazon so it will be well covered and good CUstomer Service. And as an added bonus the child safety features are super intuitive and they are they work seamlessly. You can control total time, types of sites, set up bedtimes etc...

I went with the Google nest
Amazing coverage.
I almost went with the
Netgear ac1200 RBK 14 mesh
with one router and 3 satellites.
I went with the nest for future smart home options... Plus the reviews were hard to ignore. Read the thread link above. My overall speed is incredible. ....even in my backyard. I read reviews on everything for days.

We're renting as well, and we've outlived this place. Totally done as well. 7 years in one place is the longest we've stayed anywhere in 23 years of marriage. It's another rental, but hopefully an upgrade. In a couple of years we'd like to buy and live the rest of our life there, wherever that is.
