For anyone who says Carr is just a stat padder and don’t win: (33 Viewers)

Wow, Carr beat Minshew by .4 in top completion percentage over expected. What a guy. And those top QB's, they play in January, something Derek did once in a loss.

Like I said, Derek is great from the 20 to the 50.

All I care about is decent scoring against good to great teams. What's his rank there?

Score points and the stats will come. Don't score points, who cares what the other stats are, besides his agent. Score points against good teams, and that means you are probably scoring points against lesser teams.
Your posts all all common sense and should be what most people see but I think a lot of members can’t come to terms with the fact that we got another below average qb and questionably below average leader. They want so hard to convince themselves Carr is anything but what he’s always been, an average, no playoff, oft injured player who doesn’t lift up anyone around him.

Yep,

we are in salary cap hell. We have not won with him. He has been hurt! Look at our team. We have to plan for the future

Hindsight is 20/20. Of course now that we know the result we probably would have done things differently.

All I am saying is that as an entrenched, mid-level starting QB, he is being paid what he is supposed to be getting paid.

Whether or not we should have used a different team building method two years ago now that we know how things turned out is a topic for another thread.

I am talking about moving forward. Get rid of him. We are going to have to restructure some older players to get under. I hope he gets signed and does good. We certainly will need the comp picks. Then next year get rid of the Taysom, Demario, And Honey badger contract

I just don’t see how some fans can complain about Loomis, complain about the depth, complain about the OL, complain about the coaching, acknowledge all the injuries we faced, including missing both starting WRs most of the year, and still come to the conclusion that a QB with Carr’s numbers was the problem.

It’s short-sighted and reeks of people going into something with preconceived notions and then nitpick every little thing in an act of confirmation bias.

We will not get comp picks for releasing a player.

I do agree with this. If you look back 10 years to the 2014 season, its almost comical the difference in quality of quarterback.

If you gave me 2014 and 2024 QBs and told me to pick the top 12, Id have 8 from 2014. Honestly you can make an argument for 9-10.

Brees
Brady
Rodgers
Manning
Luck
Rivers
Stafford
Roethlisberger
Wilson

Mahomes
Burrow
Allen
Jackson

But its even further than that. The mid tier QBs from 2014, would be upper tier QBs today. Eli Manning, Ryan, Romo, Alex Smith, etc.

So you are right. The depth of above average QBs was far greater 10 years ago.

But Derek Carr still aint leading a team to a SB, or even a deep run. Or even to the dance at all. So you have to keep trying to find a guy who can compete with the top 3-4.

Or the bottom tier QB's being mid/upper tier QB's today (Kirk Cousins, Joe Flacco).

I am not mad at the production. It was suggested we blow it up when Payton left. I did end up hating him when in Tampa last year against cover 2 he just checked it down to Kamara over and over. When he got Mike Thomas killed. I was pissed. When he went after a Young reciever who he threw it to that was not in the progression. That was chicken sh*t. I think it all got exposed that he couldn’t call blocking assignments when Eric McCoy was close to destroying his life. I don’t like Carr. These are just examples off my head. I guess I can put on some tape, and show you 100 overthrown balls

Yep.

Either we are in a major QB drought, or we were in a Golden Age QB era without even realizing, chalking up the level of play to the newer rules of the game when it’s possible in reality that we were just watching an extremely great batch of QBs all at once.

You can do that with any QB, but especially the non-elite types.

I could put together a highlight reel that would make a football novice think Drew Brees was the worst QB who ever lived if I wanted to.

I'm not a Carr fan because he's not elite. However, I'm okay with rolling with him next year for cap reasons. Ratt is not the long-term answer. Sometimes, you get what you pay for, and a fifth-round quarterback is a fifth-round quarterback; Brady is an anomaly in more ways than one. We are not being serious until we invest a high draft pick in a QB. I doubt what happened with Drew will ever happen again. All the QBs in the playoffs are high draft picks, and the current top three are all first-round guys (Mahomes, Allen, and Jackson).

Well, I am not nit picking. I think he sucks! I don’t like him. He messed up a lot. He never seemed to take responsibility for it. I don’t blame him for not taking a pay cut. For him to say out loud go put on the tape. Of what? The few games you played. That dude can go pound sand.

I’m a big confirmation bias guy, probably can tell by my posts lately lol. But I would say this, if we are talking short sighted, then we are talking all of these injuries etc. but if we look long term, Carr has been what he has been his entire career it’s about the same no matter what. To me that’s confirming my bias that has average at best. You can’t possibly be saying for 11 years it’s been everyone elses
Fault but his.
