Former NFL player Michael Oher claimed that he was never legally adopted (1 Viewer)

Seems like Mr. Oher is running out of money and looking for a new revenue stream.

Ok then - it seems like the Touhy’s saw a vulnerable young man as a commodity and capitalized off of him.

The Touhy’s allegedly made a lot of money off the movie (I’ve seen 2.5% of net proceeds and that the movie made over $300 million in ticket sales, alone) on a deal structured to benefit them and their children. If Oher’s claims are accurate, they made a lot of money off of his life story and he was largely cut out of those proceeds.

explain to me how it seems that way?
He isn't suing them for money. But if its found out they did take money from him or wronged him they way they did it, do you think he doesn't deserve what should be his? How do you know the Tuhoys weren't in some finacial trouble at the time and needed some money from the book/movie deal?

Not that it matters, but I think it’s a lot more when you include DVD, Blu ray, and PPV sales.

If I was just minding my own business and of the blue found out I had to dissolve a conservatorship to make my own decisions, AND that I was never adopted? Plus they made a BS movie? Sue Disney as an anchor Defendant, and see where the lies fall out.

Took 14 years to figure out all the "irregularities" in the film and then speak up about it? How about staging a press conference after opening week of the film to air his grievances?
Sorry, that dog don't hunt!
like it was mentioned earlier. He has made it known for a long time ago that he didn't like they way he was protrayed in the movie. This isn't a new thing. So yea, that dog does hunt, but apparently the hunter is clueless..

My goodness, the rush to judgment here on BOTH sides is just so emblematic of the sad state of public discourse these days. Maybe the Touhys are parasites, or maybe they're victims, or maybe they're something in-between. But to make judgments based on a court pleading is just ridiculous.

It's funny how scum-sucking lawyers aren't so bad when they file a pleading that aligns with someone's pre-conceived notions...and, yes, anyone taking this in a partisan politics direction will be infracted, so please don't do it.

The only one thing I do know is that this is a really sad situation.

I’m not saying they did or they didn’t. But you don’t know any more than I do.

According to my ex-wife’s divorce filing, I had “a violent and uncontrollable temper”. When I asked her “What the Fork!”, she didn’t even know her lawyer had put that in the pleading.

Maybe wait until the facts develop??
you wouldnt happen to be divorcing in St tammany parish when that happened?

This has nothing at all to do with reality.

Either he got screwed or he didn't. The timing of him talking about it has nothing at all to do with any of it.

Like I said....if it can be shown that they significantly profited off Oher, than I have an issue. If they didn't, then regardless of the adoption or conservatorship, all they did was provide him a home, food, clothing, a great education, and the opportunity to make the most of his career. Guess we will find out since it's all public now

why was the conservship still active so many years later?

Valid question.
However, not all conservatorships are equal and if they never profited or acted on it, does it really matter? Does it invalidate what they did for him?

I'm not judging at this point....my opinion will depend on if they did something to make money off him behind his back (or acted against his interests)

No, and it was almost 40 years ago or I might have been arrested...all because her lawyer wanted to gain the upper hand (or was just lazy and grabbed a form he had used for someone else) and my ex didn't bother to read the pleading.

Disney has nothing to do with it since it was a WB film.
However the author of the book it was adapted from, Michael Lewis, may be looking at something if Oher wants to go for it.
Depending on what he knew at the time of the writing.

Yeah, I assume so, just haven’t seen those numbers reported, just the box office.
