Ft Worth police officer shoots woman to death inside her home (1 Viewer)

It's time to have a serious conversation as a nation around removing guns from the police, except perhaps a dedicated swat/rapid-react team. As a group, they've proven time and time again that they lack the judgement and situational awareness to carry lethal force.

They would have to be removed from the general population first. And thats not gonna happen anytime soon.

Wow, and so few of them were actually even punished.

Only 4 were fired and no criminal charges. Destroying hand-written witness statements and then "personally recreating" them in order to cover up a murder should be a MUCH bigger deal.
And this is why I think the Fraternal Order of Police is a clear and present danger to public safety:

The investigative report’s release was vehemently opposed by The Fraternal Order of Police who wanted to keep it under wraps.

“The Fraternal Order of Police has articulated in several instances our strongly-held belief that the Inspector General’s office, particularly under Joe Ferguson, is often little more than a political witch hunt of our members, none more so than the manner by which his office generated criminal indictments of the three officers in connection with the Laquan McDonald shooting,” the union said in a statement to the Chicago Sun Times.

The report illustrated a massive internal cover-up that was emblematic of a "code of silence" to protect one another within the Chicago Police Department, as previously documented by the Department of Justice in a separate report.

They don't give a damn if their cop is guilty, all they care about is protecting the shield.

Just got an AP push that the cop resigned

I wonder what happens in a situation like this if the homeowner only saw the officer as a silhouette with a gun and shot the officer dead.
Not inside a house, but rather a fenced in backyard.

I believe the guy ended up getting a 2 years probation after which his record would be wiped clean for some sort of low level felony.

Here Grand Jury did not find any evidence of a crime

here a guy was charged, but jury found him not guilty https://www.gunsamerica.com/digest/jury-exonerates-virginia-man-shot-cops-entering-home-mistake/
i rememebr reading that he eneded up getting a settlement from the city, but not sure.

This describes a few, including the case of Marvin Guy whose case is somewhat similar to McGee's (and in the same state) but Guy has been facing murder charges for 5+ years now. Looked for an update and could not find one: https://www.texasmonthly.com/news/a...-injuries-should-police-rethink-the-practice/

Yeah, I know its late, but why not announce their prescence somehow quite visibly. Maybe briefly run the siren. They are almost acting like intruders, themselves.
Which could be one explanation as to why her gun was out. They're creeping around outside like the pink panther, tippy toeing and whispering. That would make me reach for my gun too.

Yall remember that thread we had awhile back about should you call the police for suspicious behavior, in this climate? I have to say a lot of my peers have expressed, as of late, that contacting law enforcement will be used as a last resort for many instances. That just seems...its just wrong.

I think we're only going to see more of this. There seems to be little desire and effort by police departments and unions around the country to address officer training and procedures to stop these murders/killings by police officers. They always seem to resort to cover ups to deal with these problems.

We live in a militarized nation with too many guns. The approach by police officers and the public alike is shot first and ask questions later.

I wouldn't call police unless it's for an active shorter situation.
