Haener starts vs Commanders: 1 INT, 5 punts ; Rattler replaced Haener in 2H: led to 19 points (5 Viewers)

I agreed with coaching earlier in the year, to start Rattler over Haener; because the offensive line was in tatters, with 3rd and 4th string options starting in the MIDDLE. I don't believe Rattler was "ready" for the start, but he has a TON of experience scrambling behind a substandard line. And for me, that tipped the scale to Rattler.

I agree with coaching NOW, giving the start to Haener. I don't know for certain, but i suspect Haener is further in his development as QB, with 2 training camps, an entire season of experience, and offseason tutelage with Gruden. Haener is also more similar to Carr playing style than Rattler. I'm not saying that's a good thing, or a bad thing, because different styles each have their own merit. But the fact is...this offense and the playcalling has been geared toward Carr's skillset. And with OL issues not providing Ratter's scrambling/mobility an edge, the edge now goes to Haener due to similarity to Carr's skillset.

Added bonus....we'll now have additional game type of REAL game situations on Haener. Doesn't matter if the next HC is Rizzi, or someone else. We need to know what we have with the young guns behind Carr, because Carr may not be here in 2025; and almost certainly won't be here in 2026. Do we need to keep burning draft picks on QBs until we hit on one? Or do we already have "the guy", who just needs some more seasoning and time in the oven? I'm more interested in that, than the final score of this game, to be honest.
Haener definitely should be further along than SR. And yeah, the extra game tape will help with the decision-making this offseason. We'll see.

I bashed Haener’s arm strength after we drafted him, still psyched to see him start. Season is done, let’s see what he and some of the other young players can do.

I think his arm strength is adequate and won’t be what makes or breaks his career. He can get in trouble though if he’s not careful with placement; something Brees excelled at in compensating for adequate arm strength.

Wait, I want to point something out here because I'm not the only poster to see the incredible hypocrisy this guy above displays on a regular basis.....

So, to help make his point in this thread he downplays the fact that McCoy is out because he was the only starter missing.....

Back when we lose to the Eagles, a typical DA led Saints loss, McCoy is superman and once he went out we had no chance against the Eagles....and would have certainly beat them had he remained in the game.....

So which is it? Does McCoy only matter under certain circumstances? I'm confused....(I'm not, this guy spouts BS all over the place).....

And to the original OP, at this point I think it makes sense to take a look at Haener, given the notion that it appears (at least to the coaches) that neither separated themselves in practice during the week.....
Did you read the part where I said YES McCoy makes a difference? Do I need to say a BIG difference so you can feel better? Ok BIG difference. It's not like half the OL was missing in the Chargers game and he had Olave and Taysom. And SR got pulled because it was his worst game

It's really more about how the teams were playing at the time we played them. Timing matters. The Rams are a far, far better team now than they were 3 or 4 games into the season. And part of the reason is they got their playmakers back.
I would be tempted to argue they were a better team anyway a few weeks before they played us in New Orleans or even at Week 6-7 in this season. We're not exactly world-beaters right now, but since D.A. was fired, one can't deny the overall effort, determination, and committment from our team improved dramatically. Richard Sherman mentioned several times during the halftime segment of our TNF game vs. Denver that our team had already quit on Allen, wasnt even trying to give 40% of effort during the first half and stopped appearing to even go through the motions anymore. Even when teams like Rams or Denver werent playing near 100%, they still had far better, smarter, more intelligent and universally well-respected HC's that kept them prepared and somewhat competitive until their major star players (Stafford, Kupp) returned.

I don't believe this team ever really respected Dennis Allen as an NFL HC nor believed he knew what he was doing, or had much confidence in him to improve and upgrade our roster or talent significantly.

Rattler never had Olave. He got injured and left the game early.

Nah, more BS isn't going to make me "feel better"....I feel fine.....you aren't fooling anyone by inching your ever moving goal posts.....

I always thought Haener’s ceiling might be “Serviceable backup”. Today he’s proven otherwise.

And I know bad O Line, no WRs or TEs but still……

looks like we either need to draft a QB or find what we believe is a backup being underrated. I like Browning in Cinci. I think I like him better than any other QB in the draft. Maybe Drew Allar, but I have a strong feeling he would need to sit his rookie year and need a really good offensive head coach.
