I’m somewhere between options 2 & 3.

Is it ideal for 2025? No, however they still have to play the games. Anything can happen. It makes the 2026 decision easier based on how he plays - if he does well, play out the string, and if it’s bad then the team can afford the out a little easier and address QB in what should be a much stronger draft class for QBs than this one.

That's how I see it too. The Saints will or won't do well this year with Carr at QB. The Saints understand that it could go either way, so they set themselves up to go either way depending on how things turn out this year.

I think giving yourself the most flexibility to respond to unpredictable events and outcomes is always the best way to go.

No hate for Carr (the ten billion time), just unimpressed with a mid-tier QB going into his 12th season that has failed with multiple coaches. We're financially tied to a guy with whom we cannot win a Super Bowl or playoff game. This is not speculation; a significant sample size supports that position.
I agree, we should have blown up the roster, but the die is cast. I think Carr is a very good long ball thrower, but is so pedestrian in other aspects of the game. If the running game gets a hiccup, as ours has. Or, the line takes a hit. He stinks it up. So, we better put together a good solid line, and play makers in the run and pass game. The roster as it stands today, is at best a 9 win team. Even with the new coach and a good draft, we are lucky if we get 2 starters. That isn't going to get us beyond 9 wins. The talent here is too old!!!!!

I don't understand why so many people are against this. He's played well when the team is healthy, been to 4 probowls, and gives us the best chance at not only winning but getting cap compliant without having to restructure a lot of players that should be considering retirement or cutting young players that we can build with. Just look at the contracts Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson and the list goes on and on got. We're lucky to have this as our bridge.

One more choice

It’s whatever, would’ve preferred to cut bait and take the hit this season, but also understand why it happened and what Kellen’s motives are as you can’t come in and immediately try to start tanking, that sets a bad precedent for the culture you want to instill.

As a fan it’s easy to say tear it down and rebuild, as a new coach who wants to instill a winning mentality that’s the last thing you want to do.
Seconded.

This move was the only one the team had for this upcoming season. It should surprise no one that’s been paying attention.

This move also has nothing to do with how good or bad Carr is as a QB, nor does it say anything about what Coach Moore wants in a QB going forward.

This was strictly a money move this year, and a potential likely reset at the position next year.

Whether I like it or not is completely irrelevant…. It was the only move to make for this year that didn’t involve making the team significantly worse for the next 2 years and keeping us in a bad cap situation for those 2 years as well.

I want a complete rebuild too.. the sooner the better…. But without Carr agreeing to a pay cut or some ridiculous trade…. This was the only thing to do.

I agree with everything except the Coach Moore part. Lots of talk about how he wanted Carr.

Does it mean he wants him forever? No. But he is on team keep Carr.

What else was he going to say? And I’m not saying he didn’t want to keep Carr…. Maybe Coach loves him. Who knows for sure? What I do know is…. They really had no choice from a money standpoint.

We are going to find out what he really thinks of Carr if the wheels fall off again this season, and by what happens before the 2026 season.

What he says publicly about Carr is of no consequence because they were going to keep and restructure him unless he agreed to a pay cut and or trade…. Which he was never going to do.

Now we're cooking with grease. 2026 has to be the year the wheels finally fall off.

Look for us to pick something QB friendly this year at 9. 2026 will be a new QB we need to prepare to set whoever that is up right. OL, pass catcher, RB.

100% gonna be offense

Add to that Carr probably won’t be able to finish the season if his injury history continues. The restructure is a lot of money for an unreliable starter, and the cap hit now gets worse next year. Looks like Loomis has learned nothing.

SIXTY NINE MILLION cap hit next year???

Are you effin kidding me? I was ok with him for this year, then a modest cap hit next, but this is doubling down on mediocrity.

Can only hope he ok's a trade somewhere that wants this deal......

Injury history? Last year is the first time he has played less than 15 games. The other 3 times he missed for injury reasons was 1 game. PLEASE do some basic research before making statements like this.
