How are you feeling about the Carr Restructure

Carr is the definition of average. Now he has a 70 million dollar cap hit next year. I hate it and don’t see any reason for it. Take our lumps and move on. Now we have that albatross around our neck for another year at an idiotic price tag. Dumb move, but with Loomis hardly surprising

I don’t understand why people don’t see the reasoning here. If we cut Carr, the only way to get under the cap was to restructure EVERYONE else. There would be no room for free agents and you’d be locked into all the aging veterans.

This was a given. He’ll be our QB and should be this year. He can be cut next year and we can take the cap hit with less difficulty.

Now we can build a team with some mid level free agents, can still draft a QB if we want Ann’s be in a better spot for 2026.

Everyone wants to just suck next year for some mythical rookie QB. I don’t want to watch a 2-15 team
Exactly.

The mistake wasn’t what was done with Carr’s contract this week, it was what was done with his contract two years ago. That pretty much locked us into what had to be done this offseason. It was just too much money for a QB who had yet to prove he could carry a team.

Our only hope now is that Moore knows how to transform Carr into what we all hoped he could become.

I don't understand all the Carr hate. I am not his biggest fan but I do respect his game and drive. I think he could have been very successful if we stayed healthy last year. Too many injuries on the front line and then TH got hurt as well. Then it was like watching Drew's last few seasons when the line deteriorated. I would love it if we could solidify the o-line, tight ends, and wr's. Tyler Warren would take care of the blocking and wr and Ashton Jeanty would boost the rb and wr plays. I see their upside. I don't see a qb good enough in the first round. There is not a single qb that I would classify as a day 1 starter. I see Dart as being successful eventually but will take some time to adjust. For a possibility, I would love to take any QB in the draft and insert them into the 6 games that Rattler started and see what their success rate would be. I know he has to work on settling his nerves and that is why he throws high. I would love to see him work with Drew on controlling this aspect. I hope Carr stays healthy and we are able to draft the necessary pieces and have a good run and I also hope that Rattler can keep working on progressing and be ready for when/if Carr either checks out or gets hurt. I don't want either but I also think Rattler can be a true starter for the Saints.

You're looking at the numbers as of now when we have only 44 players under contract for 2026 and before additional restructures that it will take to sign free agents that they are supposedly going to sign, plus those new players contracts. That cap space will be gone shortly.
I think it was Ross Jackson that indicated a June 1st cut in 2026 counts 19M in 2026 and the rest (35?) in 2027. Another fiscally responsible year and we’ll be in the black.

Everyone seems to realize that Carr couldn’t win amid the near unprecedented parade of injuries our team had last year. But what most fans fail to realize is that there isn’t a quarterback alive who could have won football games with what was left of our team. And anyone who claims or assumes that it shouldn’t have affected his ability to win football games simply doesn’t know football at all.

I don’t believe that Carr is a great quarterback, but he’s a good, experienced veteran. I can’t help but to feel that he’s not nearly as hopeless as so many are declaring him to be.

No they aren’t extending the commitment beyond 2025. He can be released next year, take the full dead money hit, and still save $9.5M against the cap.

202635$50,000,000$9,537,000
This makes me feel a little better. Even before the decision was announced, I said he was the team's best chance to win next year and that I wasn't sure Moore would want to gamble a season with Ratt.

That is true, except that we'd have to carry his entire $69m cap number until June to lower it to that $19 million in 2026. Then the dead money in 2027 would be around $40m.

I'm hearing contradictory reports on his hit after next year. One guy said 9 mil, and you say we're tied to him for two more years. Which is it? Can we dump him after next year or not?

I don't understand why so many people are against this. He's played well when the team is healthy, been to 4 probowls, and gives us the best chance at not only winning but getting cap compliant without having to restructure a lot of players that should be considering retirement or cutting young players that we can build with. Just look at the contracts Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson and the list goes on and on got. We're lucky to have this as our bridge.

He’s not going to be here after this year. You’re just delaying the inevitable if you believe he can take us to the playoffs or win us a playoff game. We most likely get a mid first round pick which will be hard to find the next franchise QB if we do want to draft him. All the teams you listed have more talent than us. We aren’t lucky to have this as our bridge.

There are two types of cuts and there is a difference between cap hit and cap savings.

2026 Pre-June 1 Cut: Dead Money $59,670,000, Cap Savings $9,573,000

2026 Post-June 1 Cut: 2026 Dead Money $19,207,000, Cap Savings $50,000,000. 2027 Dead Money $40,463,000. ($69,207,000 would count against the cap until June 2nd 2026 with this option)

:mad1: So, how is this a good thing? We'll still be faced with the same damn question, when is the best time to cut this guy lose. How are folks saying we're getting things under control when it's the same game?

Because we will be better able to take the dead cap hit next year and by them we will have more cap space because Ram, MT, Winston, Demario, Cam, and Tyrann will mostly off the books.

It's not how I would have done it and it slows down the cap reset a bit in order to remain competitive this year, but it's not the worst thing in the world and at least they are working toward getting it reset in the next year or two. I'll feel different if Loomis goes YOLO in free agency this year and restructures a bunch of old guys to create cap space, but I don't think he's going to do that. I think this free agency period will be much like last year with maybe one or two more mid-level guys signed.

I understand it, but I was hoping for the reset. He’s gone next year and then we can begin to get rebuild.
