I hope Kubiak doesn't call games like Kyle (2 Viewers)

Yep....one of the first things I mentioned was the defenses were the stars of the show, and defense really won this game, when you look at what Chris Jones did in OT. That play set up the win.
Yup, that one pass rush win stopped a promising drive. Nobody could've done better than Brock did on that play, because it was totally busted.

If he had a 1/2 second more, that's an easy first down because nobody was near Kittle. Jones came in so freaking fast, it was nothing he could do but take the sack or throw it away.

Because he coach went conservative and they got blown up on that 3rd down? We are putting a lot on Purdy in this game when Mahomes was just as average in this game. Both QBs were average; one was just coached better down the stretch.
You say that tho as if the coach is the one on the field having to make that play call “work”

Archie Manning.

I honestly don't know if that is true, but lots of older folks in my family swear he would have been one of the greats had he not played on terrible teams in New Orleans. And that's coming from an LSU family that hated to give any credit to an Ole Miss player. I'm just old enough to remember him playing in 1980 and when he went to Houston, but I can't say I knew enough at that age to know if he was good or not.

I'm one of those older folks Saints fans....I honestly think the only QB that was better than Manning in that time period was Roger Staubach.....had Archie had just some help he would have been a HOFer.....he was offensive player of the year I believe in both 1978 and 1979, the only years he was here that they had a good offense around him....

Dan Marino, and according to Ron Jaworski who was his backup for one season Marino was part
of the blame. Shula nor Marino made a serious effort to upgrade the running game during Dans
run. Both wanted to ride Marino's arm as far as it would take them. During the QB meetings, Jaworski said
Marino didn't pay much attention to the new running plays. He wanted to see the new passing plays.

I lived with a friend who was a huge Fins fan back in the early 90's, he believed above to be very much the case, he didn't hate Marino per se, but he thought Shula caved to his demands to easily.....

Why would a coach make it hard for his player to succeed?
Reid has always made it easy for Mahomes but I'm not the one calling him the greatest. I believe that he is great in that scheme though. The thing is, Purdy has been getting crushed all season when they both are products.....I'll let that one go.

I’m not disagreeing with either of your statements…..however reading through this whole thread you are having a hard time genuinely giving credit where credit is due. Scheme/QB/HC go hand in hand. Plays, Play Caller, Play Executioner….

I don't have a hard time giving credit where it is due, because I've been giving Reid the credit that lot of people don't. I'm not saying this to down Mahomes, but as I said before, when you are at the bottom of the league in all air yard and depth stats, bottom of the league in tight window throws but lead the league in explosive plays, with your receivers being responsible for 55%+ of your total yardage, that's more on scheming than anything.

And Mahomes isn't? lol
We act like 75% of his throws aren't less than 5 yards to a receiver in space. Most successful QBs are system QBs. We just turned that phrase into a negative connotation.
Valid point but I don't think Purdy's elite.

Continuing in the scheme he has a chance to get there. Like Mahomes, he benefits from the system and while I do think Lance got thoroughly screwed (because that's what the Shanahans do sometime), Purdy has been exceptional in what Shanahan has put together. He is like Jimmy G with the willingness to throw deep.

Mahomes was Mahomes, just like in 2020 and 2023. The guy is uncanny at flipping the switch when they've gotta have it. Then he's masterful. I will always give him credit. Plus, he has fewer weapons than the Niners.

As for Shanny, all we read here all week was what a genius he is. Right now, he's 0-2 as a head coach in Super Bowls, both in games his team choked away leads late. And, he has the 28-3 albatross, because the Falcons ran pass plays in FG territory where all they had to do was run or take a knee, kick a field goal, and ice that game.

Fun night to to root against the Forty Winers and their not-Bill-Walsh genius head coach.
If you think it was Mahomes that won that game then you were watching a different one. It was special teams mistakes. 1 fumble that lead to an easy score and a missed XP. Also everyone and their grandma know Mahomes was running on that 4th down except idiot Steve Wilks who didn't tell the D to concentrate on PM. Mahomes was average or below . he did nothing special to win it

And just how long had Purdy been a starter ??? a yr and a half, There are not many that get to be elite in a yr and a half

That is true, but teams usually don't let a Qb play out their final season on a rookie deal.
They don't want him to hit the open market as a UFA. The Eagles for example signed Hurts
to a long term deal instead of letting him play out his final season on his rookie contract.
But what they will do is backload his next contract so they will have at least 2 more yrs of paying him next to nothing. They won't talk contract until after next season.

You can't deny Purdy has better weapons though. Mahomes is playing with the weakest receiving corps
he's had during his tenure with the Chiefs. I'm sure the Chiefs will be upgrading that unit in the offseason.

I do agree Purdy wasn't the reason the Niners lost. That said, the jury is still out. The Niners will sign
him long term. What happens when they can't resign some of the key players they have now? No one
knows the answer yet. We'll have to wait and see.
Yes and Mahomes look it. I've said this before it was 2 special teams mistakes that lost the game , the fumble and the missed XP. And then if Wilks did not have a brain fart and would have known like EVERYONE else did the PM was going to run it on the 4th down. SF would still be celebrating and Swift would be pouting
