I want no part of Aaron Glenn as a HC (2 Viewers)

Glenns entire career as a DC, rankings

20, 19, 29 and 32.

Never even had an upper half defense.

Choose your narratives wisely.
After a couple of seasons with the prior coaches players, that was what Jim Haslett looked like. His defenses got progressively worse and he bailed to become a HC before he was exposed. Then after leaving the Saints his defenses were always bottom dwellers.

This thread shows how catastrophic the DA experience was for some people.

Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn will almost certainly leave Detroit, but they do so after having blown a big lead in the NFCCG last year, and now having been blown out and one-and-done'd their fans at home last night.

Similar in scope to McCarthy getting blown out at home last year.

At least Ben Johnson auditioned his playcalling for Tom Brady. Nice pass Jameson.

The hype on these two coordinators in my opinion absolutely distracted the Lions' players. They were preparing for the playoffs, and there Glenn is zoom-interviewing for other jobs. Even with team permission, horrible timing to break the cohesiveness and trust of your players. You had one job Detroit. But your coordinator's futures were more front and center than your game prep.

The injury excuse is dumb. They won 15 games as an injured team. They were not upstarts as they had a playoff run a year ago. The coaches totally lost focus. They went into that game with a 15-2 mentality, not a 0-0 postseason mentality.

When adjusted for situation and opponent (which is what DVOA measures), the Lions had the 5th best defense this year, despite losing their star edge rusher and number of other starters.

These are their players on IR, several top players on defense

Here is a pretty good visual of how his defense suffered this season.

Yes, but they were 5th in Defensive DVOA, so did the injuries really affect them? Plus they rolled the dice on Davenport, a fool's errand we know more than anyone.
