Ian Book (2 Viewers)

I gave him the benefit of the doubt last year vs Miami, but have seen zero evidence of Book getting better. He plays sloppy and frenetic, is wildly inconsistent, but most disappointing is that he has almost ZERO pocket presence.

The slightest bit of pressure often compels him to run or move off his throwing platform. I also get the impression that the stage is too big for him. I was hoping for some signs of growth and him getting better, but I just don’t see it.
Vilma was constantly saying Book was way too quick to throw to his check-down rather than wait for the deeper routes to develop.

I will respond to you by putting my thoughts in a brand new "Ian Book" thread - since that appears to be what we're doing now.
Look for it. It will be the thread that says "Ian Book". No... not that one. The other one. Nope. Not that one either. Try the next one.

i didn't think he played that poorly as some people are saying. you gotta remember who his cast of characters are. i think he could def. et a lot better.
I get what you're saying here, but he has Olave out there and he's managed to be outplayed by *checks notes* Bailey Zappe.

No one can say that coach Allen didn't give this young man an honest look to see what he can do. I've seen enough though. Good kid, but not ready for the big stage.

Why should we waste a practice squad spot on him ? 🤷🏽‍♂️
Only because you're not likely to find someone you can put on the practice squad who grades much better. And even if you do, that person won't be up to speed on the playbook.

I agree that he isn't a good option at all, but he's still the best option out there, at this point.

Doesn't matter what he did at Notre Dame! Other than QBs named Joe, name a QB from that school that has done anything worthwhile?
I said that yesterday in a thread and forgot completely about Joe Cool.

This second part is just a general comment.

I rewatched Books throw to Olave a couple times. No way that works in the regular season. The starting defense would have been waiting on that pass.

But I'm more impressed by the catch and move Olave made. It was smooth and quick. Everything that could potentially make Olave great was on display in that one catch

Good news for the folks that did buy Ian Book jerseys....You're only 3 letters away from a Lance Moore Jersey

I did that once with some different colored electrical tape. Turned a 68 Turley into an 88 Shockey.

Like I said in TCUDan's thread, his ability to get open using nothing more than smooth route-running is special. He's not a burner, but his change of direction is deceptive because he's not looking to beat you up physically at the top of the stem. He just changes direction sharply with no wasted motion. Dude just glides all over the place.

It's like, nothing about him excites me. He's probably not as dreadful as some are making him out to be, but I'm also not seeing anything that makes me want to see him hang around as a project or whatever.

Andy Dalton is intriguing from that "steady, veteran game manager who has been to the playoffs and a few pro bowls" standpoint, particularly considering that we have a well-rounded team that won't always have to rely on him to win the games.

Jameis Winston is intriguing from that "former college national champion who has shown flashes and got the Saints off to a solid start prior to his injury last season" standpoint.

As others have pointed out, Hill is QB3 anyway........and, well, if we're at that point again during this season, we won't have to worry about the playoffs (or won't have to worry about being in the playoffs for very long) anyway.

Too much hyperbole is being used here. I do not recall anyone being a "fan" of Book. I recall most being optimistic that he would be better than the "experts" believe he can be. It seems if you have optimism for the kid, you are a "fan" and if you don't, then you are a "hater."

It is hard to judge if he is missing open players on TV unless the announcers indicate a player was open. Yesterday, there was no chance of that. He seems to be under a lot of pressure. I am not going to discount him yet... the only thing I see is the games themselves. I am not privy to anything else.
