Im So Upset With Day 2 Draft Strategy (1 Viewer)

Everyone here hates Byrd, then we draft his replacement, who has a first round grade, in the late 2nd and everyone loses their minds. Incredible.

Not everyone...just a vocal minority. Just like the "we don't need a WR" crowd.

The only concensus complaint from Saints fans is how we have failed to address guard the past two years. If the Saints go into the season with Lelito and Kelemete, there will be some angst.

Why is everyone taking like the draft is over?

Saints needed 3 bonafide defensive çontributors. Drafting someone like Alabama DT Reed would have given the flexiblity to move Rankins around on the line.

Keeping your third and 4th round selections would have filled your OG and WR need with quality instant contributors with someone like Vladal Alexander and any number of WR Marques Colston possession clones.

In a draft where you need immediate impact with holes to fill, the Saints and Mickey Loomis let Sean Payton have his way with his toys and the drafting of a DB leaves a lot to be desired as these *** clowns have proven they are incapable of picking that position with the misses, misutilizations, and lack of growth, development, and scheme fit considering the resources and ROI weve had at DB under this regime.

We truly need a REAL GM who has the balls to be anything other than a Yes man for the head coach.

Bottom line, yoy can get an instant quality end or DT or LB in round 2, but you wont find that in rounds 3 and 4. What you will find in rounds 3 and 4 are immediate impact guards and receivers.

This front office is terrible at drafting, terrible at determining value with both draft picks and contract negotiations.

We are in and have been in this position perpetually and fail to look in the mirror and realize "hey, we havent had success at this position year after year, perhaps we need to hire someone that knows how to spot and develop where we keep swinging and missing.

Tom needs a moment of clarity

We have a new scouting department led by Ireland. The DBs we have drafted last year seem to be very promising. We needed another S/CB to help us in nickel and 3 safety packages after we lost Bush and Sunseri.

It's your opinion that there are great DTs and LBs available in the mid rounds, but maybe the guys who actually get paid to evaluate talent don't agree w you. It's possible Thomas and Bell had 1st round grades, so we got em.

WR and SS/CB were definitely positions of need where as we used FA $ and our 1st rounder on LBs and DLs. We haven't addressed OG yet, but I expect that to happen soon. We have had a lot of success w mid-late round OGs.

We have three great picks I don't understand all the negativity it really makes me question wether or not these people are real fans or fair weather fans . Even if I wasn't a fan of the pick I would still support the picks , they're are family now and I damn sure would call any one in this coaching staff or front office an *** clown .

Last year the team drafted 6 defensive players and 3 offensive players and one of those was a backup QB. Focusing on D has actually been the norm. We can't just ignore offensive skill positions. Before Thomas the Saints only had 1 drafted WR and the other top players were UDFAs. That's ridiculous, really. You can't just pray that a Willie Snead falls in your lap every year.

I also disagree that you can find starting caliber WRs all over the place in the 4th round or later. Colston and Stills were exceptions. You usually end up with Nick Toon types.

This off season the Saints have bolstered every level of the defense. They added several LBs in free agency and Fairley on the line. So far in the draft they added the top DT and the 2nd rated FS. Plus, PJ Williams, Lewis and Swann will be back in the secondary. It's not all doom and gloom. We're a better team now than we were when the season ended.

Another thing that is hilarious is how everyone takes these talking head and different web sites as the know it all and know more than the Saints scouting dept . .... PFF says that he rated such and such so it must be the gospel , give me a break y'all need to get a clue .

Like I said in another thread and others have said this too.

We drafted 3 players in 3 areas of need and all 3 of them will be on the field contributing week 1. I don't know what more we could do that would make some of you people happy.

Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

It's not like Fairley and Rankins were gonna play side by side on 1st and 10 anyway.

I would line them up side by side on 1st and 10. Especially against passing offenses. Look at us, we pass on 1st down more than we run. Plus, I want the best players on the field.

If Rankins is versatile and can play anywhere, he damn sure better be able to play next to Fairley.

Our track record with safeties is not that good.

OP has to be the most annoying poster. At least Swimmer is funny.
