Ingram benched [OLD THREAD BUMPED]

By the way, lets add some perspective here. Emmiitt Smith had 1 fumble per 116 carries. Adrian Peterson has 1 fumble per 70 carries. Deuce Mcallister had 1 fumble per 71 carries. Last but not least. Ingram has 1 fumble per 160 carries. Finally, his Y/A are only 1/10 of a per cent below Deuce's.

Wow dude, don't put him into this legendary category.

Ingram would have been long gone if not for his Heisman 1st round pedigree. You all know this to be true.

After perusing this thread, it is amazing how quickly fan loyalty dissipates. Up until yesterday, Ingram had only 3 rushing fumbles in over 800+ carries and only 3 fumbles in over 100 receptions. Okay, he has hit a rough patch with fumbling the last two games and many of you are willing to give up on him completely. The stats don't support the conclusion some of you drawn have that he is a subpar back and has always been.

Fumbling by the way can be attributable to many things. Poor blocking, an ailment, lack of focus. However, it is safe to say that in 6 years, he has not been fumble prone. Generally, fumbilitis is very fixable especially for a back like Ingram. In addition, during the last 6 years he has averaged 4.2 yards per carry.

I would suggest many of your poor opinions about are short-sighted, premature, and undeserving. Don't gang up on him yet. He is a valuable and productive member of the team who deserves our support and not our derision just he had a bad game or two. Everybody gets in a slump, but it doesn't mean they should be shown the door.

Give him the benefit of the doubt.
Ingram is not a fumbler.

The numbers say the last couple of weeks are a statistical anomaly. That said, we have covered all this before in regards to Ingram being a hard worker, great teammate, never quits, give 100%, player with a high motor and really pretty average to a little below as an impact player for the offense.

We could really use impact in the run game. He lacks the speed, vision, shiftiness to make the big impact plays. He's a grinder but even a bit undersized to be truly effective at that.

At this stage in his career I'm fine if they start working in Lasco and Hightower and if they bring in more options as a successor. We can get a lot more out of the position than "plays hard and knows his assignments".

Ingram with the fans was also undermined by the expectations that come with his draft position and the trade up to get him, which is not really his fault.

I have not been of fan of MI since day one and have repeatedly written so here. I'm surprised it has taken so long for the masses to agree in way or another.

The first two years Ingram was there, the Saints ran a power scheme. They switched to a zone an his YPC improved. Furthermore, a rb is only as good as the line in front of them and NO OL is not designed to open hoiles, just protect Brees. NO is also not a run first team as we all know. Therefore, the game is never going to be schemed to maximize the run just set up the pass and keep 8 out of the box.

You probably dont go to the forum a lot... there has been thread on Ingram vs (insert backup name) almost every week during the season and that since he got drafted.

I just wanted to inform you that your opinion is far from being isolated or original. In fact, the ''masses'' as you wrote tend to think like you.

Ingram will be fine. He is the #1 RB and will continue to be. He is not fumble prone and it takes more than 2 fumbles to gain that rep. I am amazed at how happy some of you are when a Saints player struggles. You would rather have your "I told you so" moment than see the team win.

People who would rather be right than see someone succeed are the worst kind of fans. Dives me nuts when I see that. Whatever happened to supporting the players on our team? To wish failure on someone is a terrible point of view.

No we don't. And you don't either. If anything, it's because he has a Heisman that he gets all this criticism, not to mention the trade up to get him. That wasn't his fault, and the unrealistic expectations have been just that, unrealistic. It's a cross he has to bear so to speak, but fans seriously need to cut the guy some slack. He's still a member of our team.

We can criticize his lack of burst or some other aspect of his game, that's fair, but to say he's a bad player is revisionist history and ignoring what he's done since joining the Saints.

I think we should start Hightower for the time being and let Ingram work his way back. The fumbling is an issue, but it's also something highly unusual for him. He'll come around...I hope.

He really shouldn't though. From purely a fumbling perspective, he's been better than good in that area. I don't think using a statistical anomaly to make a case against a player is good debate. To take 2 games and ignore the other 6 years is silly and short-sighted imo.

yall defending ingram like he's been more than average his whole time here. 6 years in and we're still waiting on that 1000 yard season? he aint bad, but he aint great either. our running game has been as pedestrian as they come with ingram at the helm. if you want average, ingram is your guy. if you want to see improvement along the lines of what we're doing with our receiving corp, it's time to start looking elsewhere.

Yet ingrams no where near the same ballpark as any of those guys and got benched sunday.

Keep using those stats to prop him up as if it negates what we actually see lol

Stats do negate what you see. Your eyes are no better than anyone else's, and it really is a super poor argument to try and buttress an opinion.
