Interesting Info on Sedrick Ellis (1 Viewer)

I don't know why that's true, but I know that it is. A lot of people can bench 400, 500 though is unusual, and to my mind, utterly impressive.

It doesn't mean you're a better football player than somebody who benches 'just' 400 though.

I like Ellis and I think that unless we trade down, the only real value at the top of the draft defensively is D-line. So move up or move down - impact d-lineman or LB/S/CB and extra picks.

The bench press and strength test means nothing in terms of football skill, but in the case of either huge improvement or huge numbers like 500lbs shows that he has an incredible work ethic.

I think that's true to an extent. There's also the question of natural talent and body-type. Not everyone will be able to bench 500 lbs, no matter how hard they work. In the same way, not everyone will be able to run a 4.3 40. But yeah, you'd have to be a natural freak to lift 500 without hitting the weights pretty damn hard.

Having said that, I always thought that the bench was a pretty useless measure of how well someone plays ball. You rarely, if ever, replicate a bench press when playing football. I think it's a good measure of overall upper body strength but football is about using the strength you have in the right way and being explosive.

To be clear... if he's there at #6... find a way to move up.

What's it cost on that value chart to go from 10 to 6 anyway?

anyone?

6th pick - 1600 points
10th pick - 1300 points

The 60th pick (28th pick of the 2nd round) is worth 300 points, but for 2008 it's probably the 61st pick since the Pats will lose one, thus the first pick of the 2nd round will choose 32nd. Our 2nd-round pick (I'm assuming it's the 9th pick of the 2nd round - remember, gotta move up one due to the Pats), which is worth 490 points.

1300+490 = 1790. The 4th overall pick is worth 1800. So our 2nd-rounder should get us from 10 to 4. Theoretically. Also theoretically, our 3rd-rounder + our 1st-rounder should be enough to jump to 7.

Really if I were the Saints, I'd take a gander at the seniors for next year and possible juniors who may leave early at key positions (LB, OT, DT, CB) and if there's a lack of supreme talent, I'd think of trading a '09 pick (2nd or 3rd) this year to move up some. This year, there are very few great talents, but there are a ton of good players and I'd hate to sacrifice our 2nd-rounder in '08 because we can surely grab a good LB there.

Mamula was an unknown who improved his stock at the combine. Ellis was a highly regarded DT based on his play on the field.

I do think regardless of what he does between now and the draft, there's still a decent chance he'll be there at 10. He's listed at 6''1'' 285 pounds. Most teams prefer even their 3 tech DTs to be 300+ lbs and a few inches taller. Tommie Harris fell to 14 because of his size and he is bigger than Ellis.

wow...what a beast!! Yeah he needs to be in Black and Gold baby!!!

LSU has Tommy Moffit. I know when they had Bowe, Davis , and Doucet at receiver, Davis was the only one that could not bench 400, he only was able to bench 395, it ****** him off.

No more soft then Big 10 competition and everyone loves Dan Conner (who I'm not high on).

I like Mayo or Goff as better MLB's then Dan Conner just because I know they've been playing serious competition every week in the SEC.

I think Mayo will be one of the best Bers out of this draft.

I'm just scared he will end up going 1st overall in the 2nd round like Ryans did and we not get a shot at him. He is my favorite MLB in the entire class right now. I think Conner is similiar in talent, but won't be there in the 2nd, and is a big reach at 10.

He had a great Senior Bowl game...and keep in mind he was double teamed on allmost every play. It would not be a shocker to me if he goes before Dorsey.

personally, sit and once dorsey or ellis goes off , you do what you have to to get the other.
Either way, you have 1 tremendous DT.

OR, you hold, take Rivers or other best lb. avail. and take okam or similar DT in the 2nd.. heck, haven't heard much of okam. but with the draft talk last year, he looked really good. And he'll be around a little later....

Ellis is on the rise but he is not better than Dorsey. Everyone forgot how dominant Dorsey was when he was healthy.
