Ironman 3 (Extremis) (1 Viewer)

Yeah, I thought it was hilarious what they did with the Mandarin, but I can see where it would irritate comic book fans. I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed it. If this were the definitive last chapter in the Iron Man story, I'd probably have been pretty irate, much like I was after Dark Knight Rises. There are certain story elements that they just left hanging, and certain story choices made (Mandarin being chief among them) that you just can't do in a closing story. That said, nobody in their right mind thinks this is the last story. Unlike Christopher Nolan saying "this is it" with Batman, Marvel's got no intention of stopping. Tony Stark will be around in Avengers 2, and I'm guessing Iron Man 4 and Avengers 3 in the next decade. For that, I give them some leeway. If this were the final story, it would tie things up in a bow as far as him not needing the suit or the ARC reactor anymore, sort of bringing things full circle in that regard, but it did open up some new story lines. For one, I've read a lot about "Stark didn't grow or change at all in the movie." I really disagree. Also, for all the crap the Mandarin twist is getting, how great would it be if he pops up in the next Iron Man flick and we find out that he used his appearance in this film to disarm Stark and make himself seem totally innocuous, but that he really IS the bad guy mastermind he should be? Sort of like when Hans Gruber buddies up to John McClain in Die Hard to find out about him...only in this case, stretched over two movies. Or maybe that never happens, I don't know. I hope it does, because when he was "in character," he was great.

All in all, not as good as the first one, but lightyears better than Iron Man 2. It gave a little bit of fresh energy to the franchise, and I can appreciate that when I remember that they've got more movies to answer/fix any story issues or questions that may remain because of this one. At worst, it's competently made, with some snappy, funny dialogue and decent action. It doesn't compare to The Avengers, but then again, no single individual-focused Marvel movie ever will, which is kind of the point of The Avengers in the first place. A decent start to Phase 2. I'm hopeful that Thor 2 will continue the streak in November before getting us into Captain America 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy (the big gamble on the table) in 2014.

this movie ****** me off. a lot.

Funny you say that, I felt the same way. Like I'd been personally insulted.

What a pile of crap.

I loved 1, and actually really liked 2. Saw Avengers 4 times in the theater....

This one sucks, and almost flips you the bird with some of the stupidity.

Totally disappointed.

My issue with the Mandarin was that it WAS a joke. If they hadn't done him like the comics, but rather kept it as a terrorist acting through, or even being puppeted by, AIM, then the character wouldn't have taken a really stupid turn. I was pretty annoyed by that. But setting up AIM is pretty paramount to the future of the "Avengers" stuff, so I liked all that.

I liked what they did with the Mandarin. I didn't see it coming and it's not often that movies are able to surprise me. I can see why people who were big fans of the comic were disappointed though.

I wasn't expecting the Mandarin from the comics. Frankly I was really excited by the take on him they teased in the promotional materials. A former soldier possibly connected to the Super Soldier program who has a no holds barred attitude. I expected a villain who leveraged technology and came after Tony Stark on his own ground. Honestly I expected an international terrorist version of the Joker from The Dark Knight. When they got an actor the likes of Sir Ben Kingsley I just knew this take on the Mandarin was going to blow me way. The dialogue in the trailers had me salivating. This was going to be THE Marvel movie villain.

Dud. Complete dud. I don't care about the comic book Mandarin who I thought was goofy. I cared about the Mandarin they presented promoting the movie. That was the Mandarin I was disappointed to not see.

I watched it today. I enjoyed the movie but it definitely had a different feel from the first two. I too was hoping the Mandarin would be a bad *** villain but I still found it funny.

I notice people said they felt it was missing something. As stated I noticed a difference in the movie (enjoyed it too) as would be expected with a new director. I think if there was no Iron Man or an abundance of specials effects then this could have been an Action Comedy.

From someone that hasn't read any of the comics and really only knows what I have seen in the movies, I thought the movie was very good. What happened with the Ben Kingsley character made me laugh...I thought it was a nice twist. I saw it more that there was still a Manderin character, but it was more of a don't pay attention the man behind the curtain twist to it.

Yes exactly. There was most definately still a Mandarin and he was bad ***. It just wasn't who you thought it was. Brilliant!
