Ironman 3 (Extremis) (2 Viewers)

I wasn't as impressed as a lot of others. Not a bad movie, I thought IM 2 was actually bad, but not on par with the first. I found the way they handled Mandarin to be one of the worst decisions in superhero movie history right behind adding nipples to Batmans costume. I'm shocked Marvel/Disney let them go that route with one of the better Marvel villains.
This.

Shane Black needs to stick to comedies. This film had it's moments, but I left somewhat disappointed and I'm the guy who finds just value in just about every movie he watches. Great action, great comedy, great effects, but this left me feeling like I had been robbed of something.

I am, however looking forward to seeing direction in which the story continues and I am definitely looking forward to Thor and Star Trek...

The fight with Whiplash at the end of Iron Man 2 lasted less than 60 seconds. What kind of boss fight is that?

I'm talking about the entire climax including the drones. Whiplash should have never even been the bad guy (they could have done Crimson Dynamo with almost the exact plot). The both fights with him were lame but the drones battle was pretty cool.

this movie ****** me off. a lot. it suffers from Spiderman 3 syndrome, trying to do too much and mashing up too many comic storylines into one film. plus its pretty much the exact same plotline as Dark Knight Rises.

and what an absolute waste of the Mandarin, and Ben Kingsley. freaking ozzy osbourne.

Saw it on Friday. Movie lost all momentum after Ben Kingsley scene. It felt like something was missing.

There seems to be a disparity in acceptance between comic fans and general audiences on this flick due to the Mandarin thing. That didn't bother me much because I've always thought the Mandarin was a garbage character. Over the top Chinese villain stereotype with magic rings? Yawn.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was loads better than the awfulness that Iron Man 2. I think it's time for people to accept that these movies are their own continuity with their own rules, plots, and takes on characters. They're no longer beholden directly to what happened in comics, and I'm fine with that.

Yeah, I thought it was hilarious what they did with the Mandarin, but I can see where it would irritate comic book fans. I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed it. If this were the definitive last chapter in the Iron Man story, I'd probably have been pretty irate, much like I was after Dark Knight Rises. There are certain story elements that they just left hanging, and certain story choices made (Mandarin being chief among them) that you just can't do in a closing story. That said, nobody in their right mind thinks this is the last story. Unlike Christopher Nolan saying "this is it" with Batman, Marvel's got no intention of stopping. Tony Stark will be around in Avengers 2, and I'm guessing Iron Man 4 and Avengers 3 in the next decade. For that, I give them some leeway. If this were the final story, it would tie things up in a bow as far as him not needing the suit or the ARC reactor anymore, sort of bringing things full circle in that regard, but it did open up some new story lines. For one, I've read a lot about "Stark didn't grow or change at all in the movie." I really disagree. Also, for all the crap the Mandarin twist is getting, how great would it be if he pops up in the next Iron Man flick and we find out that he used his appearance in this film to disarm Stark and make himself seem totally innocuous, but that he really IS the bad guy mastermind he should be? Sort of like when Hans Gruber buddies up to John McClain in Die Hard to find out about him...only in this case, stretched over two movies. Or maybe that never happens, I don't know. I hope it does, because when he was "in character," he was great.

All in all, not as good as the first one, but lightyears better than Iron Man 2. It gave a little bit of fresh energy to the franchise, and I can appreciate that when I remember that they've got more movies to answer/fix any story issues or questions that may remain because of this one. At worst, it's competently made, with some snappy, funny dialogue and decent action. It doesn't compare to The Avengers, but then again, no single individual-focused Marvel movie ever will, which is kind of the point of The Avengers in the first place. A decent start to Phase 2. I'm hopeful that Thor 2 will continue the streak in November before getting us into Captain America 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy (the big gamble on the table) in 2014.

this movie ****** me off. a lot.

Funny you say that, I felt the same way. Like I'd been personally insulted.

What a pile of crap.

I loved 1, and actually really liked 2. Saw Avengers 4 times in the theater....

This one sucks, and almost flips you the bird with some of the stupidity.

Totally disappointed.

My issue with the Mandarin was that it WAS a joke. If they hadn't done him like the comics, but rather kept it as a terrorist acting through, or even being puppeted by, AIM, then the character wouldn't have taken a really stupid turn. I was pretty annoyed by that. But setting up AIM is pretty paramount to the future of the "Avengers" stuff, so I liked all that.

I liked what they did with the Mandarin. I didn't see it coming and it's not often that movies are able to surprise me. I can see why people who were big fans of the comic were disappointed though.

I wasn't expecting the Mandarin from the comics. Frankly I was really excited by the take on him they teased in the promotional materials. A former soldier possibly connected to the Super Soldier program who has a no holds barred attitude. I expected a villain who leveraged technology and came after Tony Stark on his own ground. Honestly I expected an international terrorist version of the Joker from The Dark Knight. When they got an actor the likes of Sir Ben Kingsley I just knew this take on the Mandarin was going to blow me way. The dialogue in the trailers had me salivating. This was going to be THE Marvel movie villain.

Dud. Complete dud. I don't care about the comic book Mandarin who I thought was goofy. I cared about the Mandarin they presented promoting the movie. That was the Mandarin I was disappointed to not see.
