Is Kellen Moore not impressed with Rattler? (8 Viewers)

There was a graph posted for starting quarterbacks that had data for quarterback rating vs WR separation and catch rate. Rattler’s receivers had by far the absolute worst separation and catch rate than any QB in the league. Rattler was throwing to absolute bums when he had his shot. Not gonna judge him on that. Dude was throwing to practice squad caliber WRs.
He was, totally agree. I don’t judge him on those games alone at all.

However, he was the same QB in college. Big arm, nothing else. I think he has the ability to be a good back up down the line. we shall see tho.

Rattler showed some good things last year, but he didn’t light the world on fire. Sure, it was nice that he didn’t tear an oblique throwing off his back foot or break his hand leaping over a defender instead of stepping out of bounds. But that’s a pretty low bar. A new coach wanting to keep that job for a while is going to look for a QB of their choice.
Agreed. I also think it’s even more critical for a coach like Kellen…..

Truth.
It’s also what he’s always done, college included. Big arm, big mistakes.
You’re not wrong. But as beat up as our team was last year, at least he was a threat to make a big play and get something done. I mean, when he dropped back, he gave us some hope. He made some incredible throws but for the most part his throws were half a second slower than they should have been. He also made a few head scratching mistakes. I think he has potential but he may be one of those guys that makes a bad team competitive and dangerous, but can’t make a good team great.

Absolutely. I’m not trying to bash him, just the truth as I’ve seen it. Watched a lot of his college games too. I think if he can get the between the ears part down he will be a big time weapon as his arm is big time. I do doubt that he will be to improve his processing. Time will tell and I wish him well.

I’ll also admit that I was dead wrong on Haener. Thought he had tbe processor (which I think is far more important than a big arm) but he has shown zero imo.

I think after this next season Kellen will have a new QB room.

If our new HC (who happens to be an offensive guy) didn't meet with all the top QBs, that would be a concern. Of course they are meeting with QBs. A lot of people (fans & media) are trying to read the tea leaves and connect the Saints to a new QB each day. The Saints might draft a QB or they might just be doing their job.

Also I think it's worth noting that meetings are crucial when it comes to hiding your real target. SP was a master of that. The old misdirect. He would meet with and hype up guys that he was never going to draft.

Why not meet with all the top QBs? I think it's essential to get a sense of a man. You never know. You might really love a guy's tape but then you meet with him and discover that he's a total tool bag. Or he's a Jeff George type, all arm and no brains.

I know many won’t want to hear this, but Rattler right now, to me, is Zach Wilson minus the expectations and associated disappointment of being a #2 overall pick. He’s being given grace and a bit of hype than warranted because of his 5th round draft status, but on the surface, he’s nothing special or noteworthy for a new HC to be especially giddy about and not exploring options.

Hopefully he can develop beyond that level, and if he does that would be a great bonus for us, but that’s where he’s at currently and it’s the prism of expectation that we should be managing the position group around when it comes to his spot.

Rattler did the best he could with zero o-line, WRs/TEs, and no running game
EXACTLY!

.. give him those pieces and he WILL go to work.. & all this hoopla over these college QB's.. smh.. smoke screens.. all the other teams are thinking the Saints are gonna go QB or trade up.. mark my words, it's going to be "D".. and hopefully it's my man Barron.. the game behind sealed doors.. watch!

NW.

What if this is all an elaborate ruse to throw teams off the scent of the Saints hoping Warren falls to #9?
Why would Warren not fall to 9, there's going to be two WRs, a RB, a QB, and a pass rusher going. There's also the first OL pick. Raiders don't need a TE. Panthers need defense more but if they don't get a Kuechly 2.0 that's their funeral. Only team I'm concerned about getting Warren are the Jets.

There really wasn't hardly anything at all to be impressed with Rattler about, other than a crazy extended play every once in a blue moon. His pocket presence wasn't good. When he did have time, his progressions were slower than a donkey.

He sometimes showed good accuracy and a strong arm. That's it. Unfortunately, those are the expected traits for every NFL QB, even 3rd stringers. Dissecting defenses, pre-snap reads, adjustments at the line, audibles and pocket presence/poise are all required at some level to be a starter, and he struggled in all those areas to flat out showing very little to none.

The Rattler hype is mostly fan hype.
