Israel (now broader Mid East discussion) (5 Viewers)

Makes biden look bad for coming out and saying it wasn't an IDF rocket. His best move there would've been to say he's waiting for the investigation.
Well, to be fair, we don't know if it's an IDF rocket or not. Biden stated clearly he was relying on intel relayed to him by DOD. DOD can get it wrong sometimes. Sheet happens.

What this guy is saying is that's the current leading theory. And fwiw, I don't think he's the one who will decide what it actually was even if he's done a lot of work on it. He may be right.

He is saying that it's most likely an accident because it was probably intended for the rocket battery near the cemetery the rockets being shot towards Israel came from.

It makes sense. Tragic accident unfortunately.

I'm tired. The IDF narrative is false. The Palestine narrative is false. A flattened hospital is not flattened.

All correct, but also, allegedly, it's estimated 200-250 people did perish because many people were sleeping outside in close proximity to where the explosion happened.

No one is gonna admit it was an accident because everyone needs someone to blame.

I've seen some videos and pics coming out of Gaza that makes me not really care who's fault it is. It just needs to stop.

I've seen all of that as well. It makes my skin crawl. But it's hard to look past how they got there on Oct 7th. The reports of how that massacre had months and months if not years of planning. This was pretty much a 9/11 moment for Israel.

I mean, look at our record after 9/11. We made some pretty serious mistakes. We have the benefit of hindsight. They're in the middile of it.

It's Bibi Netanyahu's birthday.

Has Israel ever taken civilian hostages for any reason?

They randomly go into Gaza and imprison thousands of Palestinians from military orders and prosecuted in a closed military court. Some figures are as high as 1 in 5 Palestinians are arrested in their life life.

But they don’t call them hostages. They have been used in prisoner exchanges in the past. Women snd children are not off limits.

So it comes down to how you define hostage.

I’m sure many were probably bad people with bad intentions but the way it goes down is sketchy at best, they are arrested by people they can not vote for and many have no representation.

Indeed. Didn't think about that angle.

So, murky. Whereas Israeli citizens who are unquestionably innocent have been taken hostage for prisoner exchanges. It's very hard not to be, overall, pro Israeli going back to, as I said, my first awareness of terrorism. Such as, as I mentioned before, the 1972 Munich massacre and the events that lead to the senseless murder of Israeli-British Citizen Dora Bloch, on her way to NYC for her son's wedding in 1976 by Idi Amin.

I lean towards Israel's side but they both have a lot of fault. Senseless killing is more than plentiful on each side. Typically, Israel kills about 7 Palestinians to 1 Israeli. Both sides argue back and forth on what percentage of Palestinians killed are terrorist vs civilians. UN did a couple of studies back in 2014 after the last big flare up. One study said 77% of the deaths were innocent victims, the other said 70%. Either way you slice it, Palestinians has more children deaths than Israel has had people die. Hamas also has to carry a heavy part of this blame for using human shields.

Israel has done some really shady stuff in the past including the targeting of hospitals and journalists then tried to cover it up so they are far from innocent victims. They repress Gaza and a lesser extent the West Bank to pretty incredible levels. Gaza being called an open air prison isn't complete fabrication. Most Palestinians can't leave Gaza, they have foreign troops and settlers moving on their property. It's almost impossible not knowing someone arrested or killed by Israel, they have no rights, no elections, don't control their own infrastructure, court system, etc. It's a really sheetty situation. A large percentage of their population also wants nothing more than to end Israel with at least double digit support to spill Israeli blood any way they can. Israel has every right to defend themselves.

It's why the cycle never stops and anyone claiming they have the answers is lying. It doesn't get much more polarizing. Add in religion and it's the Hatfield and Mccoy's on a much bigger scale in some of the more densely populated places on earth. Add in religious rhetoric and huge outside influences trying to control the narrative and it's just a constant powder keg.

The first humanitarian aid convoy has crossed into Gaza. The UN and Red Cross is doing it. 20 trucks. A small beginning, but a beginning.

For 5 million people, a mile long freight train three times a day would be Spartan if it were carrying all the food and other stuff they will need. Day in and day out ships are what are usually used.

This hits so close to home for me. Special needs children caught up and slaughtered….so innocent. Her body along with her grandma’s was found burned.
