Jameis Winston played a heck of a game against the Saints!!! (7 Viewers)

Whether you like the guy or not, Jameis was slinging that ball today and really frustrated me as a fan. I was hoping the defense would get a pick 6 or two today. But gotta give him his flowers, he was poised and led that Browns offense today. I certainly wish him well for the rest of the season.
How can you not like Jboo? The guy was a great teammate. Never complained and did what was asked of him. I'll always pull for him no matter where he goes. That said it was the right move to let him walk. He is a good football player but makes too many head scratching mistakes.

Do I think he can be a starter? Yes....why:
*Since coming into the league, he has never rated below 16th in terms of stats and metrics tied to QB productivity when starting at least half the season.
*He got better each season as a Buc, being a top 10 QB in 2018 before being thrown into a brand new offense in 2019.
*In 2019, even with throwing 30 interceptions, the Bucs were #3 in total scoring and top 10 in points per possession.
*30 interceptions didn't keep the Bucs out the playoffs. Matter of fact, they were eliminated during a 4 game win streak. The first 8 games tell the story of the 2019 Bucs season (what was Teddy Bridgewater's best game during that 5-0 run?)
*He sits a year behind Drew, which he stats has been the best thing that happened for him in the NFL
*In 2021, where our roster is in shambles because COVID destroyed the salary cap, he has a 5-2 record while being top 10 in nearly QB stat and metric, being top 3 in at least half. And this is while throwing to UDFAs and Kamara (who would have obliterated his career high in TD receptions)
*He played 2 out of 3 games in 2022 with a broken back and ruptured tendon, yet we care more about the 2 losses than any other game he played as a Saint, for whatever reason.
*This season, he took over an 1-6 team who was near or at the bottom in every offensive stat and he is currently graded as a top 10 QB, while leading a top 3 pass offense since taking over as a starter, being 2-2. If it wasn't for Taysom, we probably lose that game.

Sometimes, some things aren't based on what happens on the field.

As far as being in the minority, it has never bothered me. I always try to approach thing as objectively as I can, so you will always find that while you might not agree, my logic is sound. And truth is, more often than not, my points are proven right. Crap, I told folks why Russ would fail under Sean Payton 2 years before it was reality and I predicted what would happen last seasons...lol.
Thanks for the well researched reply.

How can you not be happy for this guy? Wish he was still here.

When Jameis threw the pick 6 tonight, I had an "aha" moment (that might not actually be that, but worth throwing out for debate). Jameis is the Bret Favre of bad teams. I looked up some stats before posting, I was curious how their per game stats matched up.

We all know about Favre's Superbowl win and 3 MVPs. He was a "gunslinger", never saw a pass his arm didn't think it could complete. He played for a. great franchise and benefited greatly. Brett's career record is 199-123. He completed 62% of his passes, averaging 33 passes per game played. During this time he averaged 1.69 TDs and 1.12 INT's per games played.

Jameis has thrown some fastballs, bombs and of course the pick 6 tonight. It's kind of a microcosm of who he is. Jameis has played for mostly bad teams, his record is 36-48 (which will change after tonight wraps up). He has completed 61% of his passes and averaged 30 passes per game played. During this time he has averaged 1.45 TDs and 1 INT per game played.

I'll stick with my aha. Jameis' game resembles the way Favre played. I'm not making an argument that Jameis is Favre. But watching him play makes me think of John Madden's favorite QB.

POST post edit:

Add another pick 6 and a redzone interception on top of it. This is Jameis. 4 TDs, 2 pick sixes, 497 passing yards, loss.
