Jameis Winston played a heck of a game against the Saints!!! (12 Viewers)

Whether you like the guy or not, Jameis was slinging that ball today and really frustrated me as a fan. I was hoping the defense would get a pick 6 or two today. But gotta give him his flowers, he was poised and led that Browns offense today. I certainly wish him well for the rest of the season.
How can you not like Jboo? The guy was a great teammate. Never complained and did what was asked of him. I'll always pull for him no matter where he goes. That said it was the right move to let him walk. He is a good football player but makes too many head scratching mistakes.

Do I think he can be a starter? Yes....why:
*Since coming into the league, he has never rated below 16th in terms of stats and metrics tied to QB productivity when starting at least half the season.
*He got better each season as a Buc, being a top 10 QB in 2018 before being thrown into a brand new offense in 2019.
*In 2019, even with throwing 30 interceptions, the Bucs were #3 in total scoring and top 10 in points per possession.
*30 interceptions didn't keep the Bucs out the playoffs. Matter of fact, they were eliminated during a 4 game win streak. The first 8 games tell the story of the 2019 Bucs season (what was Teddy Bridgewater's best game during that 5-0 run?)
*He sits a year behind Drew, which he stats has been the best thing that happened for him in the NFL
*In 2021, where our roster is in shambles because COVID destroyed the salary cap, he has a 5-2 record while being top 10 in nearly QB stat and metric, being top 3 in at least half. And this is while throwing to UDFAs and Kamara (who would have obliterated his career high in TD receptions)
*He played 2 out of 3 games in 2022 with a broken back and ruptured tendon, yet we care more about the 2 losses than any other game he played as a Saint, for whatever reason.
*This season, he took over an 1-6 team who was near or at the bottom in every offensive stat and he is currently graded as a top 10 QB, while leading a top 3 pass offense since taking over as a starter, being 2-2. If it wasn't for Taysom, we probably lose that game.

Sometimes, some things aren't based on what happens on the field.

As far as being in the minority, it has never bothered me. I always try to approach thing as objectively as I can, so you will always find that while you might not agree, my logic is sound. And truth is, more often than not, my points are proven right. Crap, I told folks why Russ would fail under Sean Payton 2 years before it was reality and I predicted what would happen last seasons...lol.
Thanks for the well researched reply.

When Jameis threw the pick 6 tonight, I had an "aha" moment (that might not actually be that, but worth throwing out for debate). Jameis is the Bret Favre of bad teams. I looked up some stats before posting, I was curious how their per game stats matched up.

We all know about Favre's Superbowl win and 3 MVPs. He was a "gunslinger", never saw a pass his arm didn't think it could complete. He played for a. great franchise and benefited greatly. Brett's career record is 199-123. He completed 62% of his passes, averaging 33 passes per game played. During this time he averaged 1.69 TDs and 1.12 INT's per games played.

Jameis has thrown some fastballs, bombs and of course the pick 6 tonight. It's kind of a microcosm of who he is. Jameis has played for mostly bad teams, his record is 36-48 (which will change after tonight wraps up). He has completed 61% of his passes and averaged 30 passes per game played. During this time he has averaged 1.45 TDs and 1 INT per game played.

I'll stick with my aha. Jameis' game resembles the way Favre played. I'm not making an argument that Jameis is Favre. But watching him play makes me think of John Madden's favorite QB.

POST post edit:

Add another pick 6 and a redzone interception on top of it. This is Jameis. 4 TDs, 2 pick sixes, 497 passing yards, loss.

Jameis needs a run game, a good consistent run game wherever he goes. You ask him to throw it 50 times, the snake will bite and it will bite twice. A good balanced offense, like 2021 here. 5-2 14 TDS 3INTS , he was averaging 20 throws a game, he will cook

“Hell of a game, my brother, my guy, my comrade, my battle angel,” Jameis Winston proclaimed, gripping Bo Nix’s hand, his eyes unnervingly wide, sparkling with a manic energy that suggested he was teetering on the edge of a gospel choir solo.

“You bring unspeakable honor to that horsey on your helmet. Majestic. Divine.”

Bo blinked, unsure how to process their interaction so far, but Jameis didn’t leave room for awkward silence.

“Listen, young stallion,” Jameis began, leaning closer. “You’ve got greatness written all over you, but if you want to take it to the next level, you’ve gotta let me bestow some knowledge. I’m talking sacred lore.”

“Oh God, that would be amazing.” Bo said, cautiously intrigued.

Jameis took a deep breath, "First off, stop blinking. I learned this early in my career. Used to squint… big mistake. Now? Wide eyes, unbroken stare. Look into your receiver’s soul. Make him feel seen. Make him feel loved. Make him feel God. When your eyes are so dry that all you see is darkness? That’s God telling you it’s working.”

“Right... keep my eyes on the prize. Got it,” Bo said, trying to nod along.

“Second, you looked scared throwing the ball tonight. That’s mental shackles, my guy. You gotta embrace the chaos. You think Picasso painted masterpieces without splashing some paint on the floor? Be the Picasso of turnovers, Bo. Tonight I was the Michelangelo of turnovers, and that’s why y’all lost the style battle.” He jabbed a finger into Bo’s chest pad for emphasis.

“...In God’s eyes. He don’t care about turnovers. He could be anywhere on earth watching aurora borealises, but he’s here watching you throw. Make sure it’s a completion, a catch is a catch and a score is a score in HIS eyes. Even if it’s to a guy showering in a different locker room.”

Bo, thoroughly confused, opened his mouth to reply, but Jameis steamrolled onward. “Pineapple juice,” he said abruptly.

“On you at all times. Keep it in your socks, your pockets, wherever. Hydration through osmosis. Science hasn’t caught up yet, but when it does, remember where you heard it. From me. From God.”

“I’m learning a lot,” Bo said, nervously glancing around for an escape.

“That’s just the appetizer, my battle angel.” Jameis clapped a hand on Bo’s shoulder with unsettling force.

“Now, about the sidelines… you’re too quiet. Your team doesn’t want to hear the coaches. They want to hear you. You gotta squawk, my guy. Pick a bird call. Mine’s the osprey.” He tilted his head back and unleashed a piercing screech that echoed across the field, drawing startled looks from nearby security guards.

As the last note of the screech faded, Jameis’s expression turned grave. He leaned in, his voice a low whisper. “One last thing, Bo. Don’t trust the mascot. They know too much. Real horseys keep your secrets. But that guy?” He gestured toward the Broncos mascot.

“He’s just a man pretending to be a horse. Don’t tell him about the thing you did at FSU. I learned the hard way with a pirate down by the Bay.”

Without another word, Jameis spun on his heel and strode into the night, leaving Bo standing in stunned silence, unsure if he’d just been blessed, cursed, or recruited into a cult.
