Jarvis Landry visiting Saints tomorrow (1 Viewer)

But he knows how to get open
Yeah. Kupp ran a 4.6 and led the league in receiving. Jarvis with a 4.77 is really slow for a small receiver. But he makes up for it with route running and short area quickness. He had the pretty much the same 3 cone drill time as Kupp. People get too caught up in measurables. The greatest receiver to ever live ran a 4.7 too. So speed is only one part of what is required to win at the NFL level.

If they sign him it won’t be right away. It will most likely be when his signing doesn’t impact our compensatory pick for next year.

Didn’t we get stripped of a draft pick for gaming the system the first time we signed Jameis? Also there’s a thread around here somewhere that said the Dalton signing was enough for us to lose a comp pick. My thought on that was if true maybe they don’t care because they’re going to make a bigger signing later that would cost us the pick anyway.

The Underwear Olympics can skew things. Rice may have clocked at 4.7, but I'll bet he was just as fast in pads. And his game sense and feel for the secondary was unmatched. I will always hate the 9ers, but I respect the hell out of Rice.

I agree on the gamespeed. It was something else entirely different than what he displayed on the 40. The thing about Rice was there no human element of wearing down in a game at all. The stamina and speed was as much there in the 4th quarter as it was his first snap. That crazy intense training he did every single off season running up inclines for miles showed me he was the hungriest WR I had ever seen. WR's who bragged and claimed they were in the best shape were left crying and cramped trying to do Rice's training.

He and Barry remain the best I ever seen at their respective positions, that was one talented era no doubt. And up until that time Montana was the unanimous goat at 4-0 in superbowls.

If Landry signs, I’m thinking it is something like one year, $10 million, so that he can try again in free agency next year. I can’t see how it would be a long term deal with our cap situation.
FOr that kind of money I personally would have preferred to have paid Tyrann Mathieu and draft receivers............................

No, we were not stripped of a pick for that.

Kamara had 10 in 2020. T. Hill had 11. Chase had 9 this year. So did K Allen. What’s your point?

He has good hands and makes some impossible catches. I’ve seen him play.

Even the best drop some.
Kamara and Hill aren't WRs. What kind of wack arse grasping at straw man argument is that.

Double digit drops isn't reliable hands. That's the point. I know you probably got Purple and gold memories. It isn't what it's been.

Nick thinks that the guys who will be available at OT at 16 would be reaches in the first round. Specifically, he thinks that the top 4 will be gone leaving only Raimann who he thinks has a 2nd round grade or at least a late first grade. So, if the Saints feel they need a LT, they will need to trade up to get a guy like Cross. So, he is assuming OT will not be the BPA at 16 or 19.
Yeah well everyone seems so desperate to draft a lack tackle I think most would convince themselves the "reach" we make to draft one in the first round (e.g. Raimann) is the best left tackle of all time.

Heaven forbid we draft Willis instead.

I'm going to just leave this here......
2021

Jarvis Landry : 570yds 2 TDS 87 targets (4.7) speed

Marquez Calloway : 698yds 6 TDS 83 targets (4.5) speed. Played WR1 most of the yr w/ 4 different QBs.

2 different roles at WR. Callaway also ran a 4.55, not a 4.4 and it's very obvious he's a 4.55 guy and not a 4.4 guy on the field.

Jarvis Landry 4.7
Marquez Callaway 4.55

My mistake, 4.55 is correct. ty.

Perhaps, I am comparing apples and oranges. So, MC aside. Jarvis has combined 5 TDS and 1450yds in 2 seasons. We shouldn't over pay for a falling knife.

At the right price, he would add value to the WR room. I don't really want to hold his 2021 season against him considering he was playing with a 1-armed QB. In 2020, he missed time, but still had over 800 yards, 70+ receptions and his normal 70% catch rate. As unproductive his 2021 season was, he only had 2 drops whereas in 2018, his 2nd best season in Cleveland, he had 11.
