Jeff Duncan on Sean Payton 2023 (1 Viewer)

The general public isn’t dumb. They know when a team is in transition or rebuilding or rebooting or whatever you wanna call it.
Gayle knows what naming a new HC can do. It can create hope.
She’s seen it when Van Gundy was fired after 1 season and moved onto Green.
I really do feel like the turnaround success of the Pelicans is our biggest asset in replacing DA after 1 season. Not to mention how they pretty much turned things around as soon as SVG was out the door last season, even without Zion. Gayle knows how much energy alone can help change things

Its not out of the realm of possibility that he's saw what he's built get lit on fire and burned to the ground 6 weeks into the season. Maybe that ticked him off to the point he became open to coaching the Saints again. Nobody thought this team would only have 4 wins going into the last 4 games of the season.

Perhaps not. But considering the Over/Under line on Saints victories for the year, you gotta believe that most bettors were plunking down big bucks that the Saints would break the '8 wins' barrier. So the sportsbooks must be delighted that the Saints crashed and burned under Allen. They are really gonna rake it in on that line alone.

You gotta think if this has legs, it’s already been discussed between ms. Benson and loomis. If there is a chance it happens, I’m sure they’ll let Allen walk for Payton. We all know the rest of the story is going to get out eventually and if the fans hear that they passed on Payton to keep DA another season, the backlash from fans would be insane.

The bottom line is that Sean Payton was burned out. He needed to get away from coaching even though coaching is in his blood and he equates success & happiness with coaching.

Personally I have to believe that having been a newly married man played a role in his decision. But I also believe he always knew he'd coach again, somewhere. However, I don't believe the option to coach the Saints again was ever in his plans. Maybe he really thought Allen would have success as the Saints new skipper.

That said, I always wondered how he felt this year watching his beloved team turn into a laughingstock & a dumpster fire. He HAD to be imagining what he would do to fix all the problems as they unfolded throughout the season. Does that translate into actually WANTING to take these matters back into his own hands? I still believe that's unlikely. But it's not impossible t!hat he could be so moved.

While every Saints fan would adore a Sean Reunion, it's probably best not to start getting your hopes up. How much sadder it's going to be for Saints fans to watch Sean don another team's coaching cap after convincing themselves that the Saints are actually in the Payton Sweepstakes. :covri:

Considering that he recommended Allen for the job you'd have to assume he thought he'd have success. Like that's a pretty big reference to have behind you. And he said he didn't want to think of it as just stepping away for year because of how disrespectful that would be for Allen to basically have an interim HC for a year title.

Then Allen comes in and faceplants in an epic fashion. Loses most of his games, ostracizes the QB Sean Payton groomed to take over, and basically run team and fan morale into the ground. That doesn't look good on Payton since he hand picked him to take over, in fact I'd wish someone would ask him about that in an interview.

Having a QB in place makes some of life easier but you need a GM that will let you have total control over everything and an owner that will open up their checkbook for you. It's no guarantee he'll get everything he wants elsewhere.

It’s a win-win for us either way. We either see Sean Payton return to the Saints or we’ll receive first round pick(s) compensation if he decides that LA or Arizona are better situations for him. The sadness would be putting that draft pick compensation in the hands of Allen and Carmichael if we’re trading Payton and those two are still HC and OC.

All McCarthy has to do is win a playoff game and he’ll be there for a few more seasons at the least. If he finally gets Dallas to the NFCCG like they’re suppose to, after all these yearly high regular season W totals, (and do it again) then he could be safe for a while for like the next 5+ years.
They’ll likely play the Niners. Cowboys one and done again

Yeah, either way, I hope he's coaching next season. Whether it's in NOLA or somewhere else, we'll get something.

I'm not going that far, but I understand the sentiment. :9:
I would absolutely do it.*

I might even wear a Three's Company shirt along with it. (yeah, I know the spelling is different)

* I have family members that I could pawn it off to after it's done it's hoo-doo voo-doo.
