Jeff Duncan on Sean Payton 2023 (2 Viewers)

You gotta think if this has legs, it’s already been discussed between ms. Benson and loomis. If there is a chance it happens, I’m sure they’ll let Allen walk for Payton. We all know the rest of the story is going to get out eventually and if the fans hear that they passed on Payton to keep DA another season, the backlash from fans would be insane.
Honestly? Backlash would be an understatement. It'd be a fantastic way to completely lose an already smaller fanbase, and you couldn't blame anyone for doing so with a decision like that. That's basically saying you're content with losing.

I think the interesting thing according to Duncan in yesterday's interviews is that Payton has already thought out what moves he would make the moment he was hired as a head coach. He's done deep analysis already, which also begs the question, what team is gonna just allow him to have such control? Duncan also said evaluated front offices which means to me he wants some level of control as well. He's not gonna get that in a lot of places outside of New Orleans. Some of the franchises he was reportedly connected to are notoriously cheap.

That said, I had to wonder how he felt this year watching his beloved team turn into a laughingstock & a dumpster fire. He HAD to be imagining what he would do to fix all the problems as they unfolded throughout the season. Does that translate into actually WANTING to take these matters back into his own hands? I still believe that's unlikely. But it's not impossible that he could be so moved.
I think he's legitimately been doing this, even on a micromanaged play-by-play in a series while watching the game live, basis. Like Drew's "mental reps", I'd bet he was taking "mental coaching reps" during game and probably cringed at the offensive play calling. It would not surprise me at all for him to be thinking, "I would have made X adjustment in game 1, had Y game plan for game 2, etc... and had us at 9-4, running away with the division!"

Not happening. Lets at least TRY to be
New Owner: Archie Manning
New GM: Don King
New Head Coach: Bobby Knight
Medical Staff: Korin.. sensu beans op
New OC: Bobby Cox
New DC: Brent Sapergia

We may not be able to save the Saints but at least we will avenge them.

Its not out of the realm of possibility that he's saw what he's built get lit on fire and burned to the ground 6 weeks into the season. Maybe that ticked him off to the point he became open to coaching the Saints again. Nobody thought this team would only have 4 wins going into the last 4 games of the season.

Above is my hope, albeit hopeful....it is a possibility....

I once bought a 1972 Olds Cutlass Supreme that needed a lot of work to restore it back to shape. I ended up fixing or rebuilding most everything on that car and it made me feel so proud when I finished it off by installing a new gold vinyl top & slick black paint job! It looked as great as it ran! Everyone that saw it admired the work that I put into it.

Some time passed and someone offered me more money for it than it was worth, and so I took it. About 5 years later I saw that car at a grocery store parking lot and it was totally dogged out… no longer the jewel that it once was. My first thought was, “How could he DO this?!?!?!” But my next thought was to wonder if I should try to buy it back from the guy and put it back in shape once again.

I’m hoping that Sean has a bit of that ‘car restoration’ mentality and wants to fix up his gem of a team and proudly parade it around the NFL postseasons the way he once did.

Sad to say, I never bought back that car, and I’m sure it eventually was just run into the ground. I wonder if Payton will allow the same thing to happen?

So you have inside info as to why he left? Cool....because I think the reason is his new wife didn't want him working 16 hours a day their first year of marriage....my theory has just as much merit as yours....nobody knows but CSP and those he confides in.....

I'm all for him coming back and righting the ship....but it would be....surprising if he did to say the least....
He still has his condo in New Orleans.

There’s got to be a reason for that. If he was just going to visit sometimes, you’d think he’d get a hotel room.

No doubt he has a house in Maui, Vail, and the French Riviera as well. But I don’t think he’ll be coaching from any of those locations either. The place he has here is just for when he comes into town for Mardi Gras & the Jazz Fest. :(

I suspect that I'm in the minority here, but I have ZERO interest in Payton returning to the Saints. His play calling in recent years exemplified his stepping away. He simply doesn't have the passion that he once did.

And if that piece of trash brady ever suited up in black and gold, I'd start to watch another sport. I certainly couldn't root for the Saints, as if they hadn't been soiled by his presence.

(BTW, I hate tom brady)

not alone on either of those.

How anyone could not want a HOF, all-time great coach to return is absolutely insane and beyond me, particularly after watching this disaster of a season. No one would be forcing him to come back, so surely him making that decision would show the passion is still there?

I understand wanting to move forward but he is a HOF level coach whose last year my have been his most impressive coaching job (other than the SB season)....9-8 should have made the playoffs with a team that set records for injuries.....

And while I don't hate Brady, I firmly believe father time has finally caught up and have no interest in having him as the QB for the Saints....
