Jeff Duncan on Sean Payton 2023 (1 Viewer)

What intrigues me about all of this is Coach Payton could have put all this to bed by saying he will not return here but he has not done that. So, until he says something different I would think the Saints have a shot at getting him back. Because of Loomis being his best friend and how Sean is regarded by the Gulf South Region fans, I would think the Saints have a better chance of getting him than all the other suitors. Again, he could make one statement any time he wants and put this issue to bed. So, why hasn’t he done that?

Payton plays the game and he plays the game better than anyone. His comments on Lamar Jackson reminded me of this. Jackson is nothing he's looking for in a QB, he had a chance to draft him when we were looking at QB's and he didn't. Yet all of a sudden he's intrigued by Lamar Jackson and they'll both be "free agents" at the same time. Bullshirt.

Payton will never say never, he's building up hype. He probably had Duncan write this article as a favor for throwing all that sheet at him over his career. Payton should be forced to come clean up his mess before he's allowed to go play with the other kids but it's not going to happen. He's already tried to leave the team a couple times over the years when we were in much better shape than we currently are. He had all the control and everything he could ask for and still wanted out. Apart from going crazy and offering an ownership stake, we got nothing.

I'm sorry, this is a ridiculous take for so many reasons.....Forced to clean up his mess? He left the team in much better shape than he found it, it's not his fault nor his responsibility that DA is not capable of being a HC....Secondly, I see folks constantly saying he's tried to leave the team multiple times, show some evidence, all I have ever seen is media speculation and the like BS.....

Don't you know, he has been leaving to coach the Cowboys since 2010!!!!

It couldn't get any worse than how he found it but the reality of our current situation isn't good. No franchise QB (or even a solid developmental one) and some ridiculous contracts has us hurting. He stuck his head in the sand for what 5 years trying to go all in with an aging Brees and all he tried to develop was Ian Book. Speaking of Allen, Payton endorsed Allen to be our next HC so yes it's very much his fault we're dealing with Allen's incompetence. I highly doubt Loomis hires Allen if Payton says 'meh, he's a good coordinator but not a head coach.'

Wear your tinfoil hat but I'm talking about specific instances that were reported by multiple sources including our local reporters. In 2015 he was poised to go to the Colts but Loomis came in with that monster contract. In 2019 everything was in place for him to go to the Cowboys but the Anthony Davis trade shut that down as Loomis couldn't have them both leaving at the same time on his watch. Before his "retirement" there was the Brady/Payton team up in Miami that got squashed thanks to the Flores lawsuit.

The problem for anyone in this situation is that once you deny a rumour...you then have to deny every rumour...

He squashed the Carolina talk really quickly. I know it’s a very long shot but I’m still holding out hope.

It could always be worse....and you entirely left out the part where he was developing Jameis (with very good results) to be the starter, whether a bridge QB or heir apparent until....injuries....Also he may have thought DA was ready to be a HC again and he would have been wrong, as many of us are quite often....

Wear my tinfoil hat? Coming from someone that believes all of the media speculation and BS that is constantly spewing....much of which has proven to be just that...speculation....according to my tinfoil hat none of that really happened.....I guess your tinfoil hat tells you differently.....

I repeat your take on this is ridiculous and totally unfounded speculation....I hope he comes back to coach here again, does that mean it will happen? Because of media speculation? No....not even close....and the notion that he owes the Saints anything is just as ridiculous....he gave us 16 years of mostly good/great teams and excitement, he owes nothing...

He’s using us for leverage. Not to his advantage to squash the return talk.
And at the end of the day, if it drives up the price a team is willing to pay (with draft picks) then that’s great for us!

Possibly because he knew we’d never let him go there.

It’s all speculation. Every interpretation has an alternate. Until the season ends and decisions are made, we don’t really know anything.

And, like the Watson situation, it could go in a very weird direction.

At least we can be optimistic that we’ll either have Payton back or a first round pick back.

It would make sense in that DA was used as a placeholder while SP took a vacation. I think we were all satified with the defense when DA was in charge of it and SP the HC. If he comes back, big if, I think DA stays on as the DC, PC stays on as the OC, and we see more of JW at QB. We don't have enough capital to bring in AR because GB would want too much.............

I think he knows his ideal landing spot (the chargers) is slipping away. Are the other potential openings better than ours? Although he speaks highly of the Cards as an organization, does he want to be tied to Kyler (especially coming off an acl)? When he says he missing coaching does that mean he's ready to engage in a rebuild w/o a QB?

I personally do not want Sean back. Let him go to "greener grass". There is plenty of coaching talent out there other than Sean capable of winning a Super Bowl. This is evidenced by over the past decade of coaches not named Sean Peyton winning the Super Bowl.

Having said that, I don't think DA is one of them! Lol
