Jeff Duncan on Sean Payton 2023 (2 Viewers)

"He’s available, ready to coach again and open to a return to New Orleans, if the situation presents itself."

This doesn't sound like an opinion though. It reads like someone told Duncan that Payton is open to coming back.

Maybe Duncan is being misled though, who knows.
I would like to add that since he’s been gone, he hasn’t totally separated from the NOLA media. He has made appearances on WDSU and I think Underhill’s podcast.

Oh Lord, please no.

If you want to see the New Orleans Saints turn into merely "The Tom Brady Show", that's what this would be. Look at Tampa - they have zero identity now other than "the team that Tom Brady plays for".

No thanks.
I don’t want to see it either, but SP and TB12 have long had conversations about teaming up and those conversations are still happening. If our team is the only team that can make that happen, then don’t rule it out bc it is a possibility

I didn't want to see Brady come in and win with 'Drew's team,' but that's no longer the case and as such, especially if it meant the return of Sean Payton.. I'd be all for it.

Let's say this is true about Payton back possibly.
1- He's shown by not being here how bad we need him. He won more games last year with a worse roster.
2- If he comes back, I'm sure he has a plan in place for a QB.
3- This roster isn't as bad as it's performing. Tons of injuries to the wrong people. Will we purge some? I'm sure we would. But this roster has talent.
4- No 1st rounder next year. Has that ever stopped us from getting what we need? No.
If Payton wants to come back I take him in a heartbeat. This year has showed what the man can do and that's coach.

Jeff Duncan literally wrote a piece saying Sean Payton wasn’t going anywhere about a week before he left. Unfortunately, he is a deeply stupid man who doesn’t have good sources and has to put rubbish like this out to stay relevant. If Underhill or Jay Glazer started hinting at Payton coming back then I’d pay attention.

Wouldn't that be cool.

I've gone back and forth on this possibility but right now I'd welcome him back with open arms.

There's logic in this thought too, it's not a far fetched idea.

Haven’t read the entire thread yet but -

I’m not saying one way or the other, but I have never really understood why it was a foregone conclusion Payton was gone never to return. Promoting DA just makes it easier - you give him a year to rehab his head coaching cred (lol), and/or it’s just as easy for him to step down should Payton be ready to return.

Duncan’s piece was about two weeks before he left. And even Glazer said at that point that Payton himself had no clue and was going back and forth. So it’s highly possible that when Duncan spoke to the source, Payton had decided to come back.
