Jeff Duncan on Sean Payton 2023 (3 Viewers)

I’d say it would be coming from a much different place, though.

And who knows? Maybe he does what he should have done with Taysom at QB in the first place: reshape the entire offense instead of just trying to squeeze him into the role that was already defined.
Yeah, but Payton cares a lot about his W/L record. He and Tomlin go back and forth on who can win the most games.
"He’s available, ready to coach again and open to a return to New Orleans, if the situation presents itself."

This doesn't sound like an opinion though. It reads like someone told Duncan that Payton is open to coming back.

Maybe Duncan is being misled though, who knows.
Any source on Payton knows he has to say that line "Open to return to the Saints" with the relationship with Loomis and Benson. Yet... The moment they set down and break all down. Bringing back Payton to this team doesn't quite makes sense for both parties.

I haven’t thought so. But when you look around:

1. Chargers are cheap and don’t like giving a coach full power.

2. Cardinals are notoriously CHEAP cheap.

3. Jerry Jones loves SP. But will he cede total power?

There are a ton of things that Payton will be looking for. Will he be able to find that combo outside of New Orleans? And if so, will it be somewhere other than, say, Carolina, which won’t exactly be appealing talent-wise (nor would we likely be open to dealing).

Duncan’s piece was about two weeks before he left. And even Glazer said at that point that Payton himself had no clue and was going back and forth. So it’s highly possible that when Duncan spoke to the source, Payton had decided to come back.

One week or two weeks, the point remains the same. Duncan definitively said Payton wasn’t leaving and he did, because Duncan completely made it up. Payton has said in interviews that he knew as early as the off-season that he might leave. Who knows, maybe Duncan isn’t talking rubbish for once.

It is interesting that Underhill hasn’t shut it down or ignored it, usually he would if there was zero truth.

This was Glazer two days after the Duncan article came out.

Ok literally what has so many people convinced Payton is going to another team? Why is this the forgone conclusion? All of it seems just as, if not more, speculative than him returning to the Saints or retiring officially.

All I hear on here is Chargers, Dallas, Arizona, etc. based on the same kind of sports media speculation as this article yet this is getting trashed as if this holds less weight than the others.

It's over. He is not coming back. He left largely because he believed he could no longer contend for a championship with the Saints and he did not want to be part of a rebuilding project. If anything, the past five months have shown the team is even less competitive than he thought. And then there are the draft picks we traded to the Eagles. It's a mess, and he is not coming back.
Not true. The possibility of Sean Payton coming back to the Saints just as good as him going to another team. Maybe it even better based on some of the information that coming out about how the Chargers bass being very conservative when it comes to running and controlling their football operations. And also Payton even said that the Saints gave him everything that he wanted. So why would he not want to come back.

Remember Drew Brees wasn't with the Saints when they hired Payton back in 2006. Also, the chances of Brees coming back from his injury was not good. Tony Romo or Mat Leinart names were being thrown around to bring in. Wherever he goes it won't be a good situation and everything will be set.

And the saints can still make some moves thru free agency to fix the quarterback situation. Drafting a QB can be something can be developed maybe a few years down the road. Who knows.

And he left because he wanted to try something else, which is broadcasting and that what he's doing. Someone said it that football head coaching takes 10 years off your life. So don't write off Sean Payton coming back.

I didn't want to see Brady come in and win with 'Drew's team,' but that's no longer the case and as such, especially if it meant the return of Sean Payton.. I'd be all for it.
I think I’m the most vocal about being the biggest TB12 hater and I’m proud of that. I honestly don’t know how I would react if they were to team up here?!?!

Honestly, I'd rather have the draft picks for trading him. I think SP I overrated and we need to take advantage of that.

You have got to be kidding me....his last season here with record setting injuries the team still had a winning record and was a Rams lame collapse from making the playoffs....maybe his best coaching job ever (other than our SB year).....
