Joe Brady withdraws from Saints HC search (3 Viewers)

While I think we aren't all that desireable, I also believe that Johnson, Vrabel and Glenn weren't available to us from the get go. The Raiders hired Pete and the Cowboys went with Schottenheimer. We have a nice pool to chose from, even if Brady or a few of the remaining pool don't want to be here. We will hire a decent candidate. I'd be happy with McCarthy, Kingsbury or Moore. I've also been a Kafka honk for the past few years and could live with that hire. I just believe McCarthy is the right guy considering our circumstances. Asking a young unproven HC to step in and navigate this mess scares me. I think McCarthy has the skin to handle it. It could become overwhelming for a younger guy with less experience. The reality is, this team is at least 2 years away from even thinking about turning this around.

Yes. Having a guy refuse an in person interview isn't a good look for the team. But, I'm not sure that Brady would have been the correct choice anyway and I think we still have good options with McCarthy, Moore, Kafka, and Weaver. So, as long as we don't lose all of those options it's fine. Especially if McCarthy is still an option. And the truth is, even missing on Vrabel, Glenn, and Brady is better then hiring Schotenheimer and Carroll. And frankly, as much as I like the McVay system, hiring Coen seems really risky as flaky as his job history has been and having only been an NFL OC for one year in which he just improved on the system that was already in place.

They both said in the podcast that they were onboard with DA and continuity from the start , It's behind the pay wall so I won't post it

They did. But that was after he was hired. As I recall they didn't really like any of the guys we interviewed when we hired DA.

I'd wager the reason these guys are passing is because they all want someone else to be the "fall guy" for the Saints cap sins and aging roster. Once the Saints clear the cap and the new HC doesn't have a tier 3 at best QB with a tier 1 cap hit, I bet they'd all love to work for a franchise with a GM who does whatever is needed to sign the guys the Head Coach wants and an Owner who just wants to sign checks and smile for charities.

The fact Underhill had this article ready to go for this moment says a lot.
It says he wants clicks.

As exciting as it is to look at the hot OCs and DCs, Mike McCarthy is the only one with a successful track record as a HC., and I can see why a known quantity at HC would be targeted by the Saints F.O. over unknown/potential quantities.

Anthony Weaver, who has 2 seasons of experience as a defensive coordinator, is a good option but hiring Coen seems really risky because of how long he’s been a coordinator (also 2 seasons). Doesn’t make sense. This is extreme cope, coaches don’t want to come here let’s just face it.

I'm not sure this is something to get out of shape over. Brady was my first choice, but I think McCarthy is the safest bet. You get a coach who is a winner, experienced and knows how to build a team.

Now if MM drops out, then I'd be concerned.

I'm not terribly worried yet.

I’m pretty old admittedly … but it’s football! … it’s about the challenge … no one is going to turn it down unless they have another agenda and Brady apparently did. Hopes for a future opening he might prefer could be an agenda. Avoiding an admittedly big challenge in NOLA could be another agenda. … not to offend anyone, but I want a coach willing to accept a challenge and am tired of hearing what a bad job the Saints HC position will be.

Nobody ever says they like Buffalo. I been there months ago before the cold and that place sucks. The only thing interesting was seeing Rick James grave site. That place sucks otherwise. He just didn't want to come, and thats ok!

In the Marines, theyd tell us "it gets worse before it gets worse"

That is now the slogan for the franchise I love.

Its hard to believe how far we've fallen in 5 years.

The most Loomis thing to do (and the most surefire way to get rid of Loomis) is to hire Rizzi. Rizzi isnt the guy. Loomis cant survive 2 bad coaching hires in a 4 year period, can he?

There's a difference between liking Buffalo, the city and Buffalo, the team. Clearly, the subject is the situation with the Bills as a team.

If Loomis hires Rizzi, I'll be at the front of the line calling for him to be fired. But let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

It pains me to say it, but Gayle Benson is no Shahid Khan.
