Jonathan Vilma Arrested - Confirmed (1 Viewer)

Sorry guys I didnt read every post just skimmed through it and bash me for it but im a proud Deputy for a local Sheriffs offfice in this great state of Louisiana. I dont comment often but i felt the need to voice my opinion. Before I start, im the biggest Vilma fan and an even bigger Saints fan but this really disappoints me. Honestly if I were in the position of the arresting officers I would have done the same thing if not more. You have to put yourself in these guys shoes for a sec. All they know is they were called to a scene were a person was driving reckless and when they pull some one over you have no idea if that person has a weapon or is drunk or on any kind of mind altering substances. You dont know what your walking into so the first thing I would have done is got the subject out of their vehicle to prevent them from driving away possibly hurting themselves or others second it gets them away from any weapons they have in the vehicle. When given a direct order from an officer and you dont follow thats resisting arrest. Not giving your name counts as resisiting arrest. There is no reason not to follow an order. Now Louisiana Law is different from any other state we have the Napolianic Code so I dont know what the statute in Florida is but in La. he commited reckless operation of a vehicle from the information given. I will however give Vilma the benefit of the doubt however because I wasnt there and in the country your inoccent until proven guilty. I really hope he just had a bad night and everything works out Because hes a heck of a player but that still dosent make him above the law. Thanks for listening guys and as always....Who Dat!

No one will bash you for it Nick. Thanks for your service to the community.

If Jon legitimately broke the law then he should be punished appropriately.

I think the folks like me here just want to find out more details before we reach any definite conclusions.

By the way - you are quite a lurker - 12 posts in 4+ years!

Perfect! I hope this dont mess with his chances of being resigned. If it's true, what on earth was he thinking?!

WOW, dude....that's a pretty ignorant statement, if I ever saw one. :jpshakehead:

Dude..it was JOKE.

Miami has a reputation of putting out thugs and a lot of people say whoever goes to that school are thugs. On the most part it's true, BUT i was joking and poking at that saying lol.

On topic. I'll still root for Vilma. Yes this is terrible and he made a mistake. This accident doesn't mean he's a terrible person overall though. He's young and people do dumb things...it's no excuse I know but he'll pay in the end and will hopefully receive his due punishment . After that, as long as their are no other problems, people should let it die.

No biggy IMO, Lofa and Vincent Jackson both got arrested for not cooperating with the cops after being pulled over during the 2008 season and neither faced any disciplinary action.

I agree we need more info before we approach this anymore. If it is just a minor miscommunication I dont think in anyway this is goin to keep us from resigning him in my opinion. And I only post if I feel the need or have some breaking news lol I really just get my black and gold news here because this is the best place for Saints info.

Un......be..........lievable.....

I can't believe out of all the guys, it was Vilma too. Geez. He seems like such an upstanding guy. Let's just hope this one of those...'had a bad night, it will never happen again' type of things.

almost accidentally hitting someone in a car isnt "almost killing them" in court

Remember the Charles Grant Stabbing incident?

Calm down, people...

These are the kinds of things that make me not want to log on to SR.com when I wake up at 4 am and can't get back to sleep. You'd think I'd learn by now....

This is not characteristic of Jon. I'll reserve judgment until more details are out and I definitely won't base my judgment off of the initial news/police report.

Both football players AND cops can fly off the handle pretty quickly and cause things to escalate unnecessarily. My fingers are crossed that things can wrap up amicably.

Man this does seem like bad news but I whole heartily agree with nealkm on this.

If he gets hit with reckless endangerment it could be bad. It sounds insiginificant, but I know in some places(especially in the south) you can get up to a year in jail.

Being a Saints fan is fun.

Not only a super, "QFT!" but...

All 10 pages of responses can be boiled down to his one post, and extra points for it being posted right at the beginning.

Timing, substance, comedy, and tragedy.
