Jonathan Vilma Arrested - Confirmed (2 Viewers)

i knew as soon as I read this on roto that some saints fans would down play him almost killing 2 people. it's expected, but it's never o.k. for this no matter if your joe blow or a rich athlete. hopefully he was not drunk and hopefully he did not almost hit two people. i'm not saying he is a monsta for one mistake but he does not get a pass simply cause people want him in a saints uniform. i'll wait for more info and hope it looks better than being reported.

Very few people have ever said TO is a terrible person, though. Most people just don't like egotistical jerks, whether they are good or bad character guys. The dislike for TO has nothing to do with him away from football.

No one is lumping Vilma and TO together, but you can't honestly tell me that if TO got arrested for the same thing, that this board wouldn't explode.

As for Pacman Jones, the only proof we have of any wrongdoing on his part is that he threw some money around in a strip club, and some other people got in a fight over it. It's not like he was trying to get someone paralyzed, yet people on here talk about him like he's the anti-christ.

Vilma is from the "U"... I'm not surprised lol.

Your point is well taken. If true you can't overlook the part about almost running over some pedestrians. I don't want to believe he could have done that, but I didn't want OJ to shoot himself in the Bronco, either. Then I learned more. We will hear more about the details I am sure.

off topic, but you might want to watch the "outside the lines" episode about pac man jones that aired the other day. you might come away believing he wanted the people dead not paralyzed and two months later ordered another hit in atlanta.

He is cheaper now and was probably on something or probably emotionally death, girlfriend etc... He is probably on drugs.

Now we can sign Vilam and get a top tier FS.:9:

I've seen all of that before, but in the end, that's all just speculation. Keep in mind I'm not condoning what Pacman Jones did, or saying I want him anywhere near our Saints. I was simply drawing a comparison.

And let's be honest. ESPN isn't exactly the most reliable source for anything these days, much less something like that.

He "almost killed 2 people"? By almost hitting them? That's a bit of a stretch considering we don't know how close he was to actually hitting them or the speed he was traveling. If we were all held accountable for things we almost did, we'd all be in jail for 20+ years. I mean, we've all almost sideswiped someone which could've killed the people in the other car, but we didn't actually hit them.

He's been arrested ELEVEN times, including being implicated in 2 shootings as well as drug and alcohol issues. And where there's smoke, there's fire. That does not compare to 1 count of reckless driving. That's just a horrible comparison.

I just wish people would afford all players that get in trouble the benefit of the doubt that we give our own.

If he had been arrested on drugs, weapons, or DUI charges or some type of violent crime then he wouldn't be getting any benefit of the doubt, at least not from me. That stems from the fact he was arrested for reckless driving and (non-physically) resisting arrest. Even if he is completely 100% guilty of these charges, it's not a big deal. The only true negative is his resistance, but we don't know why he was resisting. If you go by the statement he is quoted as saying, it could just as easily be an overzealous cop as it is to be a spoiled NFL millionaire.

I just don't see what the uproar is. He didn't commit any of the big no-no's (drugs, weapons, alcohol, violence). Hell, look at his bail. $6500. From what I've read, normally when pro athletes are arrested their bail is 5 or more figures. That should clue us in to how big a deal this is. If he wasn't an NFL player, this wouldn't even warrant 2 lines in the local paper.

Maybe not from you personally, but you need look no further than this very thread, when people thought it was a DUI they were shrugging it off as nothing.

I don't think any of us are arguing that Vilma is a criminal, or that we don't want him on the team. JV of course deserves the benefit of the doubt in these situations. However, it's pretty hypocritical when we do not extend that same benefit of the doubt to players for other teams.

That I agree with. Some are definitely too critical on non-Saints and just the opposite on Saints.

I would say almost hitting a couple of people with a car is a pretty big deal. I hope he dropped hot coffee in his lap and got distracted and did not see people in front of his car. Then as a rest of the excruciating pain fro the coffee burn, he was not in his right frame of mind when he resisted arrest (physically or not, resisting arrest is resiting arrest, man up and deal with the situation not make it worse).
