Jonathan Vilma Arrested - Confirmed (1 Viewer)

Man I love what vilma brought to the saints, but for doing that hes lucky they didnt spray him, They should have, What a *******

im a little confused here. why are people glad that its possibly not a DUI, cause wouldnt that mean that the consequences for his actions are more serious? i dont live in the US so im not exactly "familiar" with the intricacies of the justice system, or if they can charge you with almost killing/injuring someone

plus if it wasnt a DUI, wouldnt that be of more concern because theres really no excuse for almost killing/injuring two people and resisting arrest when u are fully aware of what you are doing.

And one other thing.. almost hitting someone with a car (or even hitting them with a car for that matter), means completely different things if we're talking 5, 15, 20, 25 mph (or more).

I know Ive "almost" hit several dozen people in a single hour driving up and down through Bourbon Street looking for a parking spot. Geez.

And then there was this one time I actually did hit this lady. 6 - 7 mph, while turning down one of the side streets. Totally my fault as my wife was bitc.. err "discussing civily in multiple volumes" about something (that I wasnt entirely listening to). Oh, sidetracked... anyway, she was shocked, and ******. (the pedestrian lady.. ok my wife too.) Not hurt, but she looked like she was ready to throw down!

Of course, for the Vilma case, there are several other facts, circumstances, and perceptions of the events. Thats what courts, lawyers, witnesses, and officers are for. But I am just as entertained speculating as the next dude!

I see what you're getting at, but the court thing isn't a strong argument. I'm assuming that the "'almost' killing someone" part as attempted murder. In that case, someone was actually harmed and didn't die or someone had the intent to kill someone (and failed). I find it hard to believe that John had the intent to hit those pedestrians (if he did, then I don't want him on the team). I'm siding with NPs6724 on this one. Don't get me wrong, I don't think this situation should be taken lightly, but at the same time, neither of the pedestrians were harmed, so it shouldn't be taken to the other extreme either.

I just see a lot of "well maybe the cop did this or that" and "he didn't hurt anyone," while not ever seriously considering the possibility that Vilma may have been completely in the wrong here. Vilma did break the law, and almost harmed people in the process, that's the thing. It's not a simple fact that he almost hit someone, it's that he was breaking a law anyways when it happened. Then he was uncooperative with the officer apparently.

Unfortunately I'm not that surprised that people are refusing to believe that Vilma could do something like this. You cut a couple of United Way commercials and you have "high character" all of a sudden? The fact is no one here knows Vilma enough to know if he has high character. Before anyone says "you don't know him either" that's true, and that's why viewing what he did as I would anyone else. He doesn't deserve any additional benefit of the doubt.

Vilma will get off... I don't know why there's 9 pages of taok when you all know that unless there was a gun involved... there won't be any problems.

Sign the dude... get him back here so we can go and win this Lombardi trophy.

I will, because I like our players for what they do on the field. He didn't hurt anyone else, I could care less what he does. Steve McNair got a DUI once, didn't mean he was a bad guy.

I agree ,he didnt hurt anyone, who here hasnt reckless drove before give me a break one SMALL incident is not gonna erase what this man has done throughout his career in my eyes, sorry

Just reading the report doesn't sound that bad. "Almost hit a pedestrian" is not the same as running someone over. And "weaving in traffic" is changing lanes twice, usually to pass a car and get back in the same lane.

"The get out the car place your hands on the hood" also seems greatly disrespectful if there is no reason or cause to do so.

From the preliminary report, I'm with Vilma on this one.

It does not matter the police ask you to get out of the car you get out of the car bottom line. He should have just been cool about it and cooperated and this may not have even been an issue.

What??? All you have to do is look at the Steve Smith slugging-a-teammate posts and saying how bad of a guy he is. All it was was a freakin fight yet people made a mountain out of a molehill there and saying how he's a bad character guy. It's silly.

Steve Smith IS a bad guy. And nothing will convince me otherwise.

Sucker punching a teammate and breaking bones (this happened twice with Smith) >>>>>>> Being pulled over by police.

I just wish people would afford all players that get in trouble the benefit of the doubt that we give our own.

If you have never been in trouble before and are for all we know an upstanding citizen, then you get the benefit of the doubt. Steve Smith and Pacman don't get that anymore because they have repeatedly had problems. This is the first time that Vilma has had anything like this (that we know).

And we all know that sometimes when black men drive in expensive cars, there have been incidents of them being unfairly targeted by police.

As far as almost killing people, some dumb ditz actually did run into me in a parking lot the other day (she was too buys yakking on her cell phone to look where she was going). She had the never to yell at me to get out of the way! I think she should be in jail for attempted murder.

Ditto, seems there's a select few on this board who are looking for any reason to crucify any player at first opportunity... Just look at how many people automatically assumed a DUI, when it's most likely a combination of power hungry cop + DWB

i'm (was?) a huge vilma fan. being a cop though, hearing this type of behavior towards the cops bothers me. that is how alot of us can get hurt or killed or worse we might have to take someone out under certain circumstances because things escalate to a deadly situation. was a huge rampage jackson fan from ufc also. what he did was a crock too. when you mess up, just let the cops cuff you & fight your battle later. no good comes from resisting arrest
