Jonathan Vilma Arrested - Confirmed (1 Viewer)

You're kidding right? Ever seen Chris Rock's video of how not to get your *** whoped by police this is one. Not that bad...unreal

National Felons League at it's finest.

I don't mean what he did was ok. I mean he was dumb to not comply with the officers requests, but there was no fighting or pepper spray involved...

Has anyone here ever driven on the east coast?

Passing on the shoulder when a car is turning is common place and if you pull out and get hit by that car passing on the shoulder it is your fault. This could be as simple as driving habits from NY being used in Miami. Wait to here the whole story first.

Poor judgement - yes
Faulty reasoning - yes
DUI - We don't know the details yet
We need him - yes
Guilty - the case is pending

Does anyone really think if this IS only a simple reckless driving and resisting arrest (sometimes a bigger deal than others, granted) that this will really mean we will be able to sign him for less. If so, I have 30 acres of land about 50 miles south of Biloxi I would like to sell you for only fifty grand.

Ouch. Terrible judgement by Vilma. Still want him to be resigned at 12:01 on the first day of free agency though. He didn't harm anyone and didn't exactly bite a cop (Pacman) or physically assault the cop. He'll be fine.

For the record, I wouldn't have gotten out of the car either unless the cop explained why.

Hmm...they did not say anything about drinking.
:plus-un2: I haven't read all 10 pages of this thread, but I can't figure out where all the drinking and driving talk is coming from. I'm not sure about Florida, but in Mississippi a careless/reckless driving charge and disregard for a traffic device are 2 of the most minor traffic violation charges that can be made. A few hundred dollars in fines and you don't even have to be in court. These charges are along the same lines as a speeding ticket. Further, a careless/reckless driving charge is one that requires no evidence other than the officer's statement. An officer can charge someone with reckless driving for virtually anything other than what he deems perfect driving.

It does not matter the police ask you to get out of the car you get out of the car bottom line. He should have just been cool about it and cooperated and this may not have even been an issue.

In some parts of our beloved country getting out of the car is reason for an arrant officer to shoot you and say you were reaching for something. mistrust of our law inforcement officials is a reality because there is documented proof of theese things occuring. when you are not drunk and you know you only changed lanes and maybe you did run a red light or thought you intered the intersection on yellow the order to leave your car is attached to a more seroius series of events that Vilma was cautiously aware of and rightfully so. If I were Mr. vilma I would have identified myself and asked for the officer to call a sargent or superior to the scene for his safety. While I dont totally disagree with the deputy who posted earlier there are certain concerns for minorities and celebraties and even females that are stopped for what they may consider no reason or reasons not clear to them. Oh i 2 am a former deputy Sheriff in Louisiana retired with the rank of Sergeant.

OK, OK now I'm still half asleep and just quickly scanning these posts and this is the jest of what I've read-

Johnathon Vilma was caught driving while intoxicated while planning a hit with Pacman and TO in his vehicle, hit two pedestrations, threw them in the back of his vehicle, resisted arrest and is now in prison for life.

Pretty close to what you'd get from the thread. I don't know where the DUI idea started, but there was no alcohol, no DUI at all. If there was, the way that is reported now, we'd know already. The report doesn't even say speeding, just weaving in and out of traffic and running a red light. my guess is the pedestrian issue happened at the red light.

Is he in the wrong? Absolutely. He ran a red light. but was he doing it on purpose or was he distracted, on the phone, late, etc. He's still guilty of the infraction, but what are the circumstances? As to coming close to hitting two pedestrians, I don't know. When he ran the light, were the pedestrians barely crosswalk or were they inches from Vilma's bumper? The article isn't clear and we can't assume.

All that said, he absolutely screwed up when he refused to get out of the car for the officer. He was asking the officer for a reason to get out of the car which makes me believe he may not have known he ran the light and/or came "close" to the pedestrian. But once he had the "heated exchange" with the cop, he's going to get cuffed and stuffed...he's lucky he wasn't tasered or worse.

Listen, I'm part of the character brigade on this board. I hate knucklehead athelete's and I want them as far away from this team as possible. I don't think Vilma is one of them. He has no history of problems. By all accounts he's a nice guy, great in the community, and an upstanding citizen..that has just screwed up, and not a little. But we will know a lot more about the man in the way he conducts himself after this. Is he contrite? Did he really not know that he ran the light and thought he was being harrassed? Does he regret bowing up at the cop? Time will tell.

Well, at leasts he has football smarts. No one ever said that anyone that came from the U was known for his ability to use comon sense or even good judgement. They just play the game to win.

A team spokesman said alcohol was not involved and that Vilma has been released from custody.

Here is a scenario. Vilma is driving through South Beach. If you've ever driven there, you'll know that it's impossible to drive there and NOT almost hit anyone. He probably got frustrated with the traffic and tried to get out of it. Cops pull him over.

I have a feeling the whole thing is exaggerated, but let's wait to see what comes out. At any rate, as you see above, there was no alcohol involved, no guns, no women with bruises. At this point, it's a traffic violation.

agreed. not sure if he was exactly in south beach or not but if so, than yea its like impossible. people just walking every where, through traffic, around cars, not stickin to crosswalks, etc. etc. really frustrating.

If you have never been in trouble before and are for all we know an upstanding citizen, then you get the benefit of the doubt. Steve Smith and Pacman don't get that anymore because they have repeatedly had problems. This is the first time that Vilma has had anything like this (that we know).

And we all know that sometimes when black men drive in expensive cars, there have been incidents of them being unfairly targeted by police.

As far as almost killing people, some dumb ditz actually did run into me in a parking lot the other day (she was too buys yakking on her cell phone to look where she was going). She had the never to yell at me to get out of the way! I think she should be in jail for attempted murder.

There's also cases of athletes thinking they are above the law and treating law enforcement officers with disrespect. And for some perspective, I'm black AND have been unjustly pulled over by the police in the past. Why don't we all acknowledge that the "Vilma's being framed" scenario could be true, while also realizing that the "Vilma actually did these things he's being accused of" scenario also could be true.
