Jonathan Vilma Arrested - Confirmed (1 Viewer)

There's also cases of athletes thinking they are above the law and treating law enforcement officers with disrespect. And for some perspective, I'm black AND have been unjustly pulled over by the police in the past. Why don't we all acknowledge that the "Vilma's being framed" scenario could be true, while also realizing that the "Vilma actually did these things he's being accused of" scenario also could be true.

I never said he didn't do it. I simply objected to you characterizing this board as overreacting to what Steve Smith DID do. TWICE.

These guys have enough money to hire full time drivers. If I had this kind of money, I would get people to take me wherever I wanted to go. This way the licensed, insured, bonded driver (or company) would have to take full responsibility for any problems.

Look folks ...relax, chill & consider:

* It wasn't DUI
* It wasn't drugs
* It wasn't tax evasion
* It wasn't armed robbery
* It wasn't murder or assault

So what is it? I'd say: Blessing in disguise.

It might scare off some who are targeting Vilma, while at the same time ...ENHANCE the Saints' position for bargaining. We know what we're getting, so I have no doubt we'll offer a decent deal.

In the end, Vilma gets a good contract; the Saints don't have to break the bank (Win-Win)!

:gosaints:

then we must be reallyyyyyyyy overdue for some good news

Well the Bucs and Panthers seem to be having a hard time and we got rid of Gibbs and got a great new DC. So it's all good. This Vilma thing will go away.

Wow, how is there so much about this? Anyone really care?

I could see this happening to me on a bad day... Hell, I've probably done it before just not gotten pulled over by the cops...

I like the positive attitude and I agree with you about the bucs but the panthers had one of the best teams in the league this year. as far as our new dc I'm taking a wait n see attitude for the 1st offseason in a while being that all the moves we made last year on defense and getting shockey didn't improve our team. but I also agree that this vilma thing is no big deal.

I think of it this way, it really wasn't a big deal, but maybe it made his next contract worth just a little bit less. win win for us, right?

Remember the Charles Grant Stabbing incident?

Calm down, people...

Precisely.

Here is a scenario. Vilma is driving through South Beach. If you've ever driven there, you'll know that it's impossible to drive there and NOT almost hit anyone. He probably got frustrated with the traffic and tried to get out of it. Cops pull him over.

I have a feeling the whole thing is exaggerated, but let's wait to see what comes out. At any rate, as you see above, there was no alcohol involved, no guns, no women with bruises. At this point, it's a traffic violation.

Good point!

and resisting arrest...

There are two different main groups of thought. I do not think this is a big deal as far as Vilma resigning with the Saints, as far as him being suspended by the team or league. As a Saints fan this is nor looking to be a big deal.

Most people believe this was a bad day for Vilma that could have been avoided. He did not get arrested for murder, domestic violence, shop lifting, jaywalking...he apparently got arrested for being non compliant. IMO unless the police were physically out of line, what does being non-compliant get you? Arrested. I think in the vast majority of cases non-compliant resisting arrest can be avoided. When has anyone ever heard of noncompliance with a police officer working out for the individual? You have to make better decisions than that.

bottom line, as a Saints fan, not a big deal, but it could have probably been avoided with a cooler head prevailing.

Not taking sides, but I'm from south fl and the cops there are frickin psycho. LA has nothing on em. It would not take much to get them to go ballistic on somebody. I had a friend who got into a fight (verbal) with his wife. She had been crying went to the store to get cigarettes and a cop there asked why she had been crying and she said she was arguing with her husband. Cops went and kicked open his door, arrested him, permanently confiscated all his firearms and he spent three days in jail and it cost him $5K when it was all said and done and the cops even verified she never said he hit her or did anything beyond them having a verbal altercation. They are still happily married and hardly ever argue. They got the hell outta FL though.

In some parts of our beloved country getting out of the car is reason for an arrant officer to shoot you and say you were reaching for something. mistrust of our law inforcement officials is a reality because there is documented proof of theese things occuring. when you are not drunk and you know you only changed lanes and maybe you did run a red light or thought you intered the intersection on yellow the order to leave your car is attached to a more seroius series of events that Vilma was cautiously aware of and rightfully so. If I were Mr. vilma I would have identified myself and asked for the officer to call a sargent or superior to the scene for his safety. While I dont totally disagree with the deputy who posted earlier there are certain concerns for minorities and celebraties and even females that are stopped for what they may consider no reason or reasons not clear to them. Oh i 2 am a former deputy Sheriff in Louisiana retired with the rank of Sargent.

Good post.

I find it interesting that some of the other current/former law enforcement officers here have already jumped to a lot of conclusions despite a lack of information... NYCSaintsFan, do you have insider info that would make you "lose all respect" for Vilma already?

I don't see anywhere where anyone has said they've lost all respect for Vilma. But not everyone is ready to just brush this under the rug.
