Jonathan Vilma Arrested - Confirmed (1 Viewer)

Krazy 9000 said it best - you have NO clue what you are talking about.

Your BIGGEST mistake here is making the assumption that the vast "majority of actors are dropouts or high school grads". That is absolute BS. Show me your proof. I happen to be both an actor and a teacher of acting in high school. I've actually DONE the research (since it applys to BOTH of my jobs - wow. Look at that, I can do something else!). Have you actually done the research or are you doing what you are accusing everyone else of doing in this thread - assumption?

Your second mistake is thinking the love of having money is the most important thing to an individual today (your "why would anyone...live off very little money" argument). Again, BS. The majority of actors (the actual term actor - which is where your assumption first takes the fall, but I'll address that later) do what they do for the love of their craft. Yes, I said craft - it is a skill. You think you can do it? Try it. I'll hook you up with the theatre community in New Orleans or where ever you happen to live (see, we have a community, a Union, we network - we even have lobbyists. Go figure) to arrange your chance. It isn't something that anyone can do. Those that do it, those that call themselves "actor" HAVE passion. They don't CARE about the money as much as the creation of art. Let me guess: to you a painter is just someone who couldn't do anything else so they smear paint onto a canvas and try to sell it all the while living off their friends and family. You seriously have no clue.
And before I end this (and I mean end it, because you won't hear another word on this from me again - I can spot an ignorant, stubborn, unchangeable mind a mile away and I don't waste my time or energy talking art and the philosophy of art with the knuckle dragging portion of the population), you need to understand the definition of an actor. An actor is someone who gets paid for DOING the art of acting. A kid who drops out of high school and runs off to Hollywood or New York to be discovered is an idiot and usually survives through the kindness of friends, family, etc. - hence, a freeloader.

Maybe this is very difficult for you to understand, but sometimes people do things for reasons other than getting a bunch of money. I actually get more out of the process of creation than I have ever gotten out of buying myself something really nice or looking at the size of my bank account. If you aren't very creative, then I see why you think the way you do.

And by the way... do you know what a fallacy is? This is what your "actor= someone who can't do anything else" logic is based upon. While many people who are lazy or can't do anything else do choose to move out to hollywood in an attempt to become famous, it is not true that many actors are this way.... at least not actual actors who work, as opposed the clueless wannabes that I think you might be referring to. But I wouldn't call those people "actors" anymore than I would call you a writer. By the way, it is logic fallacies like yours (and the ones you have been campaigning against in this thread) that spur the backward thinking of racism and other discriminatory philosophies. Be careful, dude.

I'm not sure, but I believe somebody just got PWND

this meets my definition of hijacking a thread.

So basically anyone who doesn't fall under what YOU deem an actor doesn't count? Wonderful research you have there. You just eliminated a humongous portion of actors because they don't fit your definition. At first I was going to request to see this research, but after reading that part, why bother? Most actors never get to be actors for a career, but they are attempting it just the same (auditions and such). I consider those people actors even if you don't. Are those who try out for the Saints but get cut not football players?

BTW, the money issue is more of having enough money to live, not thrive. Most reasonable people who can make a living wouldn't throw it away on what is essentially hitting the lotto. And those you call freeloaders (who are actually actors whether you want them to be or not) do exactly that. They're called failed ACTORS for a reason, you know.

Wow, i just "last paged" this thread, hopin' to see some updated news about the arrest.... I don't know what's goin' on, i'm out... :idunno:

What the hell does #51 getting arrested have to do with Actors?

That aside, I've only skimmed the last few pages because much of it appears to be nonsense however one thing did catch my eye:

Most of them do so because they can't do anything else.

That, my friend, is a colossal generalisation. Vocational careers (like Football and Acting) will always attract a wide spectrum of personalities and because Acting, like Football, is percieved to be a glamourous profession some will indeed be looking for a 'get rich quick' job. However having worked with some of the best and brightest Actors on the planet there is one thing they, and all successful actors have in common... Intelligence. You will never meet so many engaging, funny, brilliant people in one place as you will on the set of a major motion picture.

And that's not a colossal generalization? Just like the other guy, you're taking the upper echelon and acting like they represent the majority.

No, I'm talking about my experience of the industry - which, as it happens, contradict your impressions of it! And yes, I am talking about the 'upper echelon' - but that's exactly my point; by generalising as you do, you're dismissing the entire profession.

are you beginning to see a trend concerning people in every thread you post in telling you just how wrong and absurd your views are? just wondering.

omg.. you again.... get over it man.... it was a prank....do you always come around being insulting....

no its many people do not understand the law or law enforcement....

So your experiences with the upper echelon contradict my experiences with those outside the upper echelon so that makes yours correct? Oooookay. Isn't acting one profession (like football, incidentally) where there is a large discrepancy between the cream of the crop and the rest? And how exactly did I dismiss an entire profession? Did I say "all" or "every"? That would be the only way to do so.

exactly how i feel every time you post friend.

like you have been asked before.

we are trying to have a conversation about the topic at hand. either join in or dont post. you acting childish and doing nothing for the topic , the thread ,or the forum.....
