Jonathan Vilma plans to challenge the charges of reckless driving and resisting arrest that were brought against him after he was arrested on Friday afternoon in Miami, according to his agent Mitchell Frankel.

According to reports out of Miami, the police report said Vilma was speeding in and out of traffic, ran a red light and became belligerent with officers. He was arrested and booked in Miami-Dade County Jail, and he was later released on bond.

"When it occurred, he didn't know why he was pulled over. Clearly he's going to challenge the charges, and he doesn't agree with them," said Frankel, who said the incident occurred around 3 p.m. and that no alcohol, drugs or firearms were involved.

No big deal. Getting pulled over by the cops can make a lot of people temporarily insane.

i mean really the people that are defending him are puting blame on the police here.

Ummm....yes. Again, yes. We live on the verge of a complete lock down police state, where armed officers roam the streets not to protect and serve, but to keep the sheeple in line, and to make money for the state. They are a source of revenue, not protection or investigation. They only clean house and hire new investigators when the mayor gets embarrassed because SO MANY crimes go unsolved it gets ridiculous and he/she fears for her job. As long as they are making money for the state, constitutional rights, benefit of doubt, and common sense go out the window. "By the book" just means the officers are too stupid to make the call and they are required to take your money EVERY TIME. Anyone who has been to jail for something stupid knows that you are GUILTY until proven innocent. Yes, I blame the police. They treat people like subhumans, like animals, like Arabs or something. The military/police line is very thin right now, and just you wait when "those boys" come home from overseas and are looking for jobs....Oh God help us....

Sigh...Nothing good comes from players spending time in Miami. Once you graduate/leave the 'U', just STAY AWAY!!!

Vilma grew up in Coral Gables, so I'd assume he still has family/friends in the area.

Doesn't matter. Move them if you really want to see them again.

I don't know who's at fault in the situation here, I make no assumptions or presumptions. When I study the news for football players, though, Miami and football players do not mix.

Show me where I'm wrong.

You're not. Reference my 31 year old cousin who lives off his parents (they pay his rent, expenses, etc.) so he can "get discovered." Meanwhile, he turned down a very awesome job (working at NFL films!) after getting is master's degree to "pursue his dream." That was 7 years ago.

He looks ******. And from the article posted by muzzy, he looks like he's challenging the arresting officer on the charges.

WWL-TV's latest:

Mitch Frankel, the agent for Vilma, said his client will challenge the charges.

"Clearly he's upset about being arrested and plans to fight it," Frankel, Vilma's agent, told The Associated Press.

"There was no alcohol, drugs or firearms involved," adding, "Jonathan plans to vigorously fight it."

Frankel said, a day after the arrest, Vilma was driving to the airport when he was pulled over by an unmarked vehicle.

The arresting officer, according to Frankel, also was in plain clothes. He said Vilma has spoken with Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis and plans on contacting NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday.

Frankel said Vilma has called the entire incident unfortunate and will let the legal process take its course.

I don't know about that. Pacman and Ray Lewis managed to get into big trouble in Atlanta. Not exactly a known hot spot.

He's saying 'I'm going kill that mo-fo that put me in here. Damn, that's gonna cost me $$$ in my new contract.'

No , the point , which you've missed , is that I don't know what happened , and I'd like to before I make a judgement . I clearly portrayed two scenarios and declared the likelyhood of the truth being between them . Agenda much ?

I have no agenda at all. You really shouldn't accuse people of things with no evidence. It makes all of your other arguments look weaker. I'm a Saints fan, why would I have an agenda against one of our best players?

No one here hopes that Vilma is innocent more than I do. However, quite a few of the people on this forum decided he was clearly innocent, or victimized by the police, or that reckless endangerment is "no big deal" just because he is a Saint.

In my opinion, that's no better than those who are ready to crucify him because of one vaguely described incident. When people make up their minds before they get the facts, it rarely makes for a good situation.

Go back and read it again , it's either an agenda , or a nigh complete lack of reading comprehension , because you pretty much just said what I've been saying the whole time . Nice job .
