Jonathan Vilma Arrested - Confirmed (1 Viewer)

By the way, here is a great and balanced post from earlier in the thread from Goldrush26.

There's also cases of athletes thinking they are above the law and treating law enforcement officers with disrespect. And for some perspective, I'm black AND have been unjustly pulled over by the police in the past. Why don't we all acknowledge that the "Vilma's being framed" scenario could be true, while also realizing that the "Vilma actually did these things he's being accused of" scenario also could be true.

:9:

How do you know? Were you the arresting officer? You were not there. You are simply basing your assumption on the report given. None of us was there. We have not heard Vilma's side of the story. Rather than jump to conclusions, we all need to just chill out. Vilma could very well have been a hothead. But the Miami police, notorious for pulling over athletes, could also have been acting out of sorts. We don't know.

Hey , man , he read it on the internet . I mean c'mon . The Internet .

from the nola article on the arrest it says:

whether or not the report is accurate is another story but if true, along with other reports that he almost hit 2 people behind the wheel of his car, it definitely sounds like they had cause to pull him over if it is all true.

This description could describe any one of us after/before a night on the town in the French Quarter. I know I've weaved around traffic and almost hit 10's of people while navigating the FQ or even downtown on a night out.

to begin with.... im not charging him.. this is about his actions causing people to loose respect for him.. he has been accused of driving recklessly, and almost running over 2 people in the street. this has been reported now in several places. based on what has been reported we do know what occurred.

1. he was arrested. loss of respect.
2. charged with resisting. loss of respect.
3 he was charged with reckless driving. loss of respect
4 he could have injurred or killed someone do to his recklessness. big loss of respect.
5. he wanted to argue with the police stating im not getting out till i know whats going on. he knew what he had done and was caught. no loss of respect just childish.

do i hate him. no
does he need to go to prison? no
do i want him on the team? yes.
is he a good guy. Probably! just needs to do some growing up.

Very interesting. I guess people cannot blow their nose around you without you losing respect for them.

This can go a lot of ways right now.

The cops say I was weaving in traffic, I say I was changing lanes.

The cops say I almost hit a pedestrian, I say the crosswalk sign was telling them to yield to traffic.

The cops say I was running a red light, I say that it was yellow when I entered the intersection so I sped up to get through before traffic began to move from the other directions.

The cops say I was resisting arrest, I say that I don't trust cops because I saw them abuse their authority growing up and I want to know where I am standing with them when they pull me over.

Two sides to every coin. And you see so very well, grasshopper.

Lots of assumptions made on this thread.
1. Vilma was drunk or on drugs.
2. The cop was white and was engaging in racial profiling.
3. The incident took place in South Beach. (Did it?)
4. University of Miami players tend to be thugs.
5. The news report is 100% accurate.
Some of these assumptions have proven to be conclusion-jumping. Not a lot of them have been verified.

Quoted for truth.

Couldn't agree more. Lets get the facts straight before condeming anyone.

While I do think that you should always obey the police if you're pulled over, and I generally believe they do a good job, there has been previous cases where high profile athletes has been targeted. Just look at what happened a few years ago to Chargers linebacker Steve Foley

Welcome to the legal system. A cop's word is pretty much concrete evidence unless proven otherwise.

It's not that getting pulled over and "resisting arrest" are even a big deal. It's the people who are making excuses for it that's so sickening.

He got pulled over. He resisted arrest. He made a mistake, and now he'll pay for it. We all make mistakes, and sometimes we pay for them. This reflects absolutely nothing about the character of Vilma or his worth to the team, but he doesn't get a free pass just for being a Saint either.
At this time, all we know for sure is that he was pulled over and that he was charged with resisting arrest.

Wow. Chill out people. Vilma broke the law and got hot headed when he got caught. Lost his temper and went to jail for probably 10 minutes.

He did not kill a lady while drunk..leonard little.
He did not slam a strippers head on a stage and have some kind of connection with a shooting. pac
He did not have connections with killing 2 guys. ray lewis
He did not spit on a woman and push her to the ground. Larry. bad but not too bad.

Point is, the man got in trouble and has paid his price.

I doubt Vilma or anyone ever arrested thinks they have paid the price the day after the arrest. this goes on for a l o n g time, it's just the beginning.

Careful there, you can easily say in his defense that he didn't fight dogs like Michael Vick.

None of the above will hold up as excuses if he goes to court. If he messed up, the best thing he can do is say, "I'm sorry your honor, it won't happen again" and unless there are extenuating circumstances, he'll likely be fine. Assuming, of course, that he has no priors.

If he was indeed innocent, hopefully this too will come out in the wash.

I remember some years ago it was mentioned on ESPN that Deuce McAllister had been, "involved' in a fight at 2am somewhere in the quarter. Turned out later Deuce was attempting to break up a fight and was never in any way implicated in the incident itself.

Point being, we do not have enough info to go on at this point nor are we likely to any time soon. I'll refrain from any judgement whatsover as I wasn't there

So he's guilty of all charges brought against him? Just like that you're just going to take the cop's word in a situation that you were unable to observe first hand?

never said that...i mean really the people that are defending him are puting blame on the police here. yes it happens. but it is rare.. nothing said anywhere leads anyone to believe the officer has done anything wrong. yet everything said shows vilma has broken the law. yet the blame is being thrown by some at the police....

What you just said can apply to most cases of unjust arrests too. The initial report ALWAYS shows this. Only after investigation is the truth brought out. Is that the case this time? Most likely not. But the point is still that neither side can be believed 100% until more is known.

Very few are actually defending Vilma's actions. I haven't read any post that said he was innocent.

THIS I take offense to. We do it because we love the creative process. What you are describing is a freeloader. I'm not, nor have I ever been. Do you realize that the MAJORITY of actors make slave wages? And CHOOSE to do so, so they can continue doing something they love? You obviously don't know whereof you speak (about actors and the profession at least - you obviously understand the police!).

And why do they work for slave wages? Because they can't get a better job than that. I didn't say every actor, but the majority of them follow their dream because they can't do anything else. How is what I described a freeloader? A freeloader is someone who gets by on what others do. What I described is a group of people who choose a profession that they may or may not have passion or talent for, but they do it because all other viable options were gone. Why do you think so many actors are either dropouts or high school grads? Because they couldn't get into college. Obviously that's not EVERY case, but that is a vast majority. Why would a smart, levelheaded person go out to Hollywood to maybe someday have a possible chance at hopefully getting an acting job and live off very little money when they could go to college and get a well-paying job? Sure there are those who have a passion for it, but it's no different than a pro athlete. Most of us have passion for acting or sports because it's fun and easier than a real job. Put it this way, you don't see too many A- and B-students drop out of college to become actors. But you DO see a bunch of high school grads going out to become stars. If you're offended, sorry but it's the truth.

BTW, I don't have a problem with actors and I would've loved to drop out and follow that same dream, but I was smart enough to realize it's a one-in-a-million chance and it wasn't worth it if I didn't make it because I could go to college and do something else I loved. Most actors and athletes love ONLY that (acting or athletics) and can't do anything else.

You seriously have absolutely NO clue what you're talking about do you?
