Carnival Karen

This entitled Yat embarrasses me as a New Orlenian.

Where the heck is she even setting up anyway? In the clip she appears to be alone on a bare patch of neutral ground.

It's St. Charles, looks above Washington but can't quite tell beyond that. Somebody else probably can.

I am just so glad there is still at least a partial segment of todays society that can still find relief and humor at laughing at themselves as others choose to find fault and mope around with hurt feelings and self pity. This could maybe even be considered a historic moment.

I'm willing to bet there's not a single woman on this Muses float who considers herself a Karen or sympathizes with the plight of overtly self-entitled, racist women attempting to use their privilege to get their way. Being a white woman doesn't make someone a Karen. They aren't laughing at themselves.

as with many aspects of social commentary, the pertinent question is whether the comment punches up or down
we should not expect people that are consistently beaten down to have a sense of humor about being beaten down
otoh, privileged people with thin skin will never not be funny

Missed the point. We have a culture that is willing to self-check itself. We call out BS, make fun of stupidity, etc. Some cultures prefer group think and ostracizing those within their culture who try to think outside of their group think. Specific to Muses...they are calling out what they see as Karens or middle class white women they identify as having special advantages. Thank goodness for Muses. But, my guess, even they wont touch the topic I am talking about. They will play it safe with targets that can take it on the chin and move on. This is not allowed (wide spread meaning here) in other cultures. Try this with some cultural tendency of any culture other than white folks and see what happens. Thankfully Chappelle is smarter than group think and said no to it. Personally, for the "Karen" haters, I find it simply another example of a double standard society we have allowed to be created. I would find it hilarious if Muses did a Gruden/Smith float. Gruden with a big ego head to go with Smith's big lips. But, no way, that would be allowed. The Gruden big ego head would be but not Smith's lips. See? Double standard. Can't make fun of two multimillionaires who definitely have privilege. Take this post for example - the usual suspects in here will come out in force to attack it.

So, the lady may be a bit emotional, yes. But, she is out trying to support the parade and is upset they are taking her chairs but look the other way at the homeless blight that is allowed. I am on her side.

Or punches could be real...like last week the guy who first punched, then kicked my wife and finally spit in the face of the other front line caregiver trying to help his sorry white person hating pitiful self. Consistently beaten down? Much of it is self inflicted. Almost like they like it that way.

You not seeing the difference between a caricature of Gruden with a big head (not a racial stereotype used to demean white people) and a caricature of Smith with big lips (a racial stereotype used to depict black people negatively) is definitely problematic. You parody Smith using a speech bubble with "blah blah blah" in it or with a lap top. You went straight to a racist stereotype. You think something overtly racist would be okay?

Yeah, it's not that hard to see the difference between parody and racism.

And I'm defintitely picking up an us versus them vibe here. And it's a "we're better than them because we do this" vibe. You're basing this on your experience in predominantly white spaces. You're not immersed in black culture or Asian culture or anyone else's culture. You're basing this on your experience in spaces you're comfortable being in. You have ZERO perspective into these conversations in other cultures. And it's people like you who have a fit any time something that is predominantly black or all black makes it into predominantly white spaces like carnival, American tv/film industry, or work spaces. It's people like you who are the first to scream why is this being forced down our throats when black culture is introduced into the predominantly white spaces that is American culture.

You're assuming white people are better without knowledge of what spaced filled by PoC look like. That’s pretty...messed up.

Dude you have some issues to work through about you. Why would you assume someone hates themselves? What made you draw that conclusion? Not sure I want to know the answer to that.

You are so off the mark. How about a caricature of a filthy rich Lebron bowing the China? Or a filthy rich black rapper in a shootout. How about ANYTHING black that is made to have one laugh. Or can they NOT laugh at themselves?

I grew up in an area that my "best" friends in grade school were black. I still stop and frequent all black business when I can (especially any and all soul food places I see). I have traveled all over the world my friend. And, I just only want peace and harmony for all. And laughing at our faults helps.

If this were true you, wouldn't have written this post. Your self-check feature would've prevented it.
