Kellen Moore most likely to be Saints coach; Saints meeting Moore again after Super Bowl, Kellen Moore has begun working on assembling staff (81 Viewers)

I'm sure that Rizzi knows his situation and he doesn't have any other options for a HC job anyway. So, he's probably willing to wait it out realizing that the Saints can't really say any candidates are out until someone officially is taking the job. The same is the case with Kafka and Weaver who both already have jobs if the don't get our HC job.

That’s what I was trying to articulate yesterday. Those guys have no motive to pull out under any circumstances. Rizzi MAYBE. This is like a lottery ticket for those guys. Why rip it up until it’s OFFICIALLY official that it’s no good?

None of the other candidates that had 2nd interviews have withdrawn meaning they don't have an answer yet and we won't know until after the SB. This is still 50/50 he could accept or he could decline.

Where there's smoke, there's fire and these report aren't popping out for no reason. So there's reservation somewhere

Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football (h/t SI.com's Mike Kadlick) reported this week that the Saints have "no plans to interview anyone else," for their opening, meaning their pool of candidates is down to two.
With former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy removing himself from consideration, every indication is that the Saints' next head coach will either be Moore or New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.

Think they may have gotten it wrong w/ the candidate pool, or if they got it right and it is in deed down to 2 Rizzi may remain on the staff as Assistant HC/ST's coach

Yes, that would be accurate, but by some accounts it's appearing as though he has to warm up to it, and still potentially may back out, suggesting doubt. If there's any doubt, if it's not an easy yes...why are you here?

Then again....Sean didn't want the job either initially so there's that.

It's hard to know how this went down. Maybe this is just people assuming he had an issue with it? Maybe it's McCarthy's people trying to save face by getting it out there it wasn't a great job and that's why MM pulled out? Maybe it is Moore's agent spreading this so that the Saints make a bigger offer than they would normally make in this situation?

And like I said, if he went in with questions about the QB position, but ultimately decided he wanted the job because there were no expectations for year one and he would be given a year to build the roster and find a QB, I'm fine with that.

If he didn't see the QB issue, you would have to question his knowledge of the game.

In the end, if a guys takes a job, then you know he wants the challenge.

But Rizzi hasn't taken a job somewhere else, yet. And he likely would if Moore was definitely going to be the HC.

Nothing is definite until a contract is signed, and that apparently can’t happen until after the completion of the Super Bowl.

Widge and Geezy have given good explanations about why Rizzi would want to wait it out.

The only takeaway from the vague report is that Moore may want Carr to go.

Kellen Moore should be 100% focused on the Super Bowl and Spags. I'm sure he's very interested in the Saints job, may even have verbally committed, raising probability he will sign. But he has not signed yet, and on Sunday night, win or lose, he will have to decide if whether he's ready to be a Head Coach, or whether he should stay with the Eagles elite contending roster and great GM. This does not sound like an easy decision.

I think Moore keeps Rizzi if he wants to stay as our ST coach.
He is a very good ST coach.

And there will be multiple avenues to consider for the quarterback position. They'll need to make a decision pretty quickly in March whether to roll will Carr or use the $30M he's set to make elsewhere. The FA options aren't that pretty, but if they were to cut Carr they'd surely bring in a veteran.

I'll honestly be surprised if they don't add a quarterback somewhere in the draft, I just don't think they'll be taking one at #9, and I don't think they'll be able to trade up for Ward or Sanders (not that I'd want them to). But a quarterback could be taken anywhere from the second round down -- or I could even see them sliding up into the bottom of the first if there was a guy they really liked.

Coaches spend their entire career with the goal to be victorious over the opposing coaches. Being 1 of 32 pretty much means you’ve beaten all but 31 of all the others thousands of coaches out there. And then to top it off, you get to try and beat those the supposed best of best on the field.
I just find it hard to believe that a coach, who is obviously by nature a very competitive person, would let that opportunity pass by regardless of the situation
I guess maybe u find one that is certain tits in their near.future, (and probably gets paid to stay) but I think that is a big exception to the rule.

No, but interim HCs rarely go back to their original roles with the same team. Ross Jackson pointed that out. So as long as he's here, the HC job is still undertimes, in my opinion.

He is a very good ST coach.

He is and he could be his "enforcer". But it could be an issue for a young coach to keep around a very popular interim HC on his staff. A situation could develop where players tune Moore out because they wanted Rizzi to be the HC. But, maybe he will see his knowledge of the team as an advantage.

I didn't say he would go back to his old job as SC. I'm saying that he may be willing to risk waiting it out in hopes of getting the HC job. Really hard for Special Teams Coordinators to get HC jobs so he has to be patient. I think it's unlikely he would be kept here at the SC because of the reason you mentioned. But he may be willing to risk that he won't get a SC job this year for the shot at a HC job.

But, he can probably still get a SC job somewhere if he can't get the HC job here as long as it doesn't linger too long after the SB.
