Klint Kubiak has a second interview with Seahawks on Jan. 17th [Kubiak is in the driver seat for Seahawks OC job per Mike Garafolo] (12 Viewers)

I think Kubiak did a solid job. We averaged 24.8ppg with Carr. That would be 11th in the NFL. The production from a rookie QB, Rattler, was better than expected for a 5th rounder. The IOL was a rotation of meh, yet there were some good schemes to hide issues.

How does that work if he accepts? They buy out his contract but do they have to offer any sort of compensation?

No buyout, we would just release him from his contract. He can’t leave without the team’s permission.

I suppose he could be traded, but I really doubt anyone is trading picks for an OC.

Teams need the Saints to interview him. If I'm not mistaken he could just leave if it was for a promotion. All that would take would be for a team to give him an assistant head coach title or something.

As Rodney Dangerfield might say if discussing offensive coordinators..."Offensive coordinators are very important to a team. There are many duties of an offensive coordinator. Take the Saints offensive coordinator......PLEASE!"

Second half adjustments are a myth. What type of adjustments can any coach really make in 15min that they can’t make on the fly during the game?

The fact that Klint Kubiak was able to even get one half of productive offense from a team void of talent and injured was a feat of its own. I still find it amazing that MVS scored all those TD’s in his first few games with the Saints. It says a lot about Carr and Kubiak IMO.
In terms of game planning sure, but in terms of play calling you can totally make adjustments. Kubiak really hasn't done that at all.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. If the Saints deny now but move on from him later, that would look terrible. Seattle is putting some pressure on the Saints with this. I wouldn't be surprised if the Saints ask him to interview for the HC job here. If Seattle were to offer their OC spot, which is an attractive job, he could lose out on securing it by waiting for the Saints to sort out their HC situation.

Teams know he got a raw deal with the injuries.

The defense had no real excuse, but we were missing like 80% of our offensive starters for a good part of the year, including our QB.
It’s a team sport.

An offense that can’t move the ball and sustain drives directly impacts the defense. They’re barely getting rest & review time before being asked to go right back on the field again. The effects of reduced rest are obvious but having only 2-3 counting minutes of in-game preparation and review time means the players aren’t getting to see what the other offense is doing (broad brush, I’m sure there are specifics to personnel, alignment, and pre-snap calls that I can’t speak to specifically).

I’m honestly surprised that three-and-outs aren’t loudly tracked. In a league looking for ways to benefit offenses, being an offense that can’t keep the ball should be readily-available information, and being a defense subject to a pithy counterpart on offense should be readily provided to add important context to why they’re giving up more yards/points/first downs.

Some sites track them. FTN has the Saints at 15th for the frequency of three-and-outs, at 22%.

Denver was the worst, at 28%. Despite having so many three-and-outs, they have one of the best defenses in the league and are playing in a wildcard game this weekend.

The problem with denying coaches those opportunities is that it makes younger, more promotion minded coaches hesitant to take your offerings. A team like the saints which routinely allows this young coaches realize that if they do a good job and show their stuff, they will be allowed to leave and take those opportunities. It also helps with other teams as they know they now owe you one.

He’s under contract. We simply “pull a Jerry” and deny the requests until we have a head coach.

That's bad business. It sounds like Jerry is going to extend McCarthy. Imagine holding up Kubiak for a month and then our new coach not wanting him. He misses out on all of the OC jobs. How many assistant coaches are going to want to come here then? Won't happen. Kubiak probably ends up somewhere else by the end of the month.

He'll probably have another job before we pick a HC. I'm going to say he has another job by the end of the month and we don't hire until next month.
Isnt Kubiak and company under contract with the Saints? so if there were a lateral move, then ML would have to approve it. If ML approves it, means hes going for an offensive minded coach.

If we didn't have all of those injuries he'd probably be a HC candidate. People were talking about it back then. Add in his last name...definitely.
even in Dallas circles they realize that injuries derailed the Cowboys. Fans like to say, injuries shouldnt matter, bla bla, but they really do matter when it comes to accessing a coaches abilities. What we saw weeks one and two were legit. Fans are trying to hold Rattler accountable for playing without an oline, a leaky dishearted D, no starting WRs or Rbs, only scrubs and vets with no reps. But yet, its Rattlers fault. Getting real would be a good idea for those fans.

The saints can say no to the Seahawks and keep Kubiak until a new head coach is hired, but that does not look good for New Orleans.

I think Kubiak brought a very capable team of coaches to work around him, that is quiet an asset to have.

If the Saints are chasing a defensive coach or special teams coach, I think they will quietly let Kubiak know.

Based on the information he has, Kubiak may decide if he wants to have a position elsewhere.
