Lance Briggs - Now Visiting Tampa [M E R G E D] (1 Viewer)

update per rotoworld:

The Redskins are not believed to be interested in free agent LB Lance Briggs, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
It looks like Briggs overestimated the market. He hasn't even made a visit yet to our knowledge. If he makes it through the first wave of free agency, Denver, Cleveland, and Tampa Bay could up their efforts to pursue him.

Citing a source, the Chicago Sun Times says free agent Lance Briggs has been linked to the Bucs, Browns, and Broncos.

Denver is called the "dark horse" to land Briggs, who's generated minimal interest within the first two hours of free agency. The 49ers are expected to be out of the running after signing Dontarrious Thomas early Friday.

Maybe if we were the Baints he'd come for a visit.

I think we aught to go after Briggs even though that means we will be paying Vilma big bucks if he returns to form. The reason being is that if Grant doesn't step up in the next two years we will cut or trade him and recoup some cap space. I as of now am still on the Grant-Smith bandwagon but if they don't get in better shape so they can preform up to their potential then we should be looking at moving them in the next few years.

The Cave Man will have them in shape. The dude knows how to get the most out of a defensive line.

The reason I don't see Briggs in our future is we have to re-sign Vilma either now or next year. If we give Briggs a huge contract we will have a huge amount of money tied up in the LBing unit, which teams typically try to stay away from.

I think Rivers is our guy at 10 unless Dorsey falls.

I think no one truly knows what is up with Briggs, so they are guessing at this point. That actually makes me believe that the Saints might be the landing spot for Briggs. The Saints like to do things in a low-key sort of way. The fact that you really aren't hearing anything of significance other than the fact that he is visiting the Bucs might mean that we are trying to get something done with him. This is not based on any report, just my own speculation.

But we didn't do the low key thing with Vilma?

True.. apparently the Saints had "cooled" on Vilma....

I hope you're right.

But we didn't do the low key thing with Vilma?

We did. He came in, took his physical and left town. Then there were reports we had "cooled" on him as keepoursaints has already pointed out. He visited the Lions and the reports were the Lions would get him. Then yesterday things heated up quickly and we had traded for him by the end of the night. I could see Briggs visiting Tampa, leaving without a deal and then some report from Shefter saying he's visiting New Orleans next with us getting a deal done. Of course, this is my speculation and may be more hope than anything. But for such a big-name FA, no one seems to know much about him and are speculating based on what was being said about him prior to free agency. To me, that could indicate that his agent Drew Rosenhaus is talking to the Saints who typically like to play these sort of things down.

But we didn't do the low key thing with Vilma?

But we had a partner team (the Jets) with Vilma. Now its just us and Briggs.

And what REALCHRISM said. :9:

And good if he isn't visitting the Bucs...maybe we've got him. :mwink:

dag nab it, if we didin't get samuel, I WANT BRIGGS
