Least Favorite Foods? (1 Viewer)

this is the first time anyone has ever said this to me. i may cry.
I should have done a TIL on this. When I was watching footage of the Queen's platinum jubilee and there was footage of Harry and Meghan arriving to St. Paul's cathedral, you could NOT miss in the background the Five Guys sign that was right across the street from the church. I don't know how long it's been there, but I know for sure it wasn't there the last time we were in London for the Saints game. We are going again this fall, but I'm not sure if we'll try international Five Guys (certainly not from the looks of this stupid long line).

Well, now, TIL that apparently the St. Paul's is London's 100TH Five guys.

Wondering why it’s not named Five Lads or Five Blokes…

Cream of Crab is cream-based (obviously), but it just has cream, butter, Old Bay, lump crab, and sherry.

does cream of crab taste kinda hollandaise-like, with crab? if so, that's probably what i had last time i in maryland. it was pretty good.

I love Cream of Crab, and I've become a little bit of a snob about it now. :hihi:

I'm spoiled because there are some places near where I live that have a really, really good version.

I've also become a crab cake snob. Always broiled, never fried, and it has to be jumbo lump, and a lot of it and with huge pieces of it and very little filler.
There are very few things you can do to a crab cake to make it better than eating plain crab meat.

The best I had was a combination of crab and lobster shaped in a form and heated in a brown butter sauce.

Hard to call it a crab cake because it just fell apart, but was one of the best things I ever ate. It was a test dish at Le Cirque on (then) Lee Circle that ain’t dere no more.

Lord Tice makes an excellent seafood cake that's a combo of shrimp, crab and crawfish that he fries. Each one is almost a pound of deliciousness.

Um, it's not really supposed to, but that doesn't mean someone didn't take a little creative license and make it like a hollandaise. It's meant to be similar to a creamy potato soup from a consistency perspective.

I love adding lots and lots of hot sauce, whatever is around, to my creamy soups to where they're orange rather than white. It gives them a great flavor without adding too much heat because of the dairy in the soup.

That sounds delicious.

I dont think i live in fear of mayo or any white condiment; the taste and smell of it just makes me wanna hurl .. it’s a visceral, gutteral reaction- not a psychological one .
That girls name scares me more than most food.

And at least mayo and mustard are natural. Ket.... Ket... Ketchup :sick: has got to be the nastiest thing ever invented. I smell it in my nightmares.

Agreed. I've never had a Maryland style crabcake I actually like. However, The Rusty Pelican in Mandeville makes these perfectly crispy, seasoned, full of meat, deep fried crab cakes that I crave. They are so good, we drive at least once a month across the Causeway to get them and then drive directly back pretending we were never on the Northshore.

Ketchup helps with bbq sauces, do you hate that too?

Well Rally/Checker Man- it’s a lot like mayo is to tartar sauce.. i too hate catsup but love BBQ sauce.. i dont care if catsup is the base ingredient , it tastes much different when it’s in bbq sauce…. Similarly to mayo/tartar , or mayo/remoulade .

THERE THEY GO!!! Every time I bring up Ketchup, someone gotta talk about BBQ sauce.

Then mayo can't be the worst thing on the planet like you say, otherwise there would be no redeeming it in any situation.

There has got to be someplace in the entirety of the South Shore, with all the amazing seafood restaurants, where you can find an equally scrumptious crab cake…. My dad lives a few houses away from the Rusty Pelican or else i wouldnt be caught over there either , lol

Actually, Smitty's in Kenner makes Crab Cakes (stuffed crab) that tastes EXACTLY like my Dad makes, which is a good thing. But it's a different animal. It's just as much breadcrumb and seasoning as it is crab meat. Don't get me wrong, it's freakin delicious, but Rusty Pelican is something else entirely. The only breabcrumbs are the Panko on the outside. The inside is pure crab meat and flavor. Damnit.... not I gotta make a short trip to see the lake.

My son-in-law likes to tell the story of when I brought him on his first cruise with the family. We both got up early to watch the ship dock in Castaway Key and grab some breakfast. We sat on the port deck outside the breakfast buffet and I made him move 2 tables away from me because he put ketchup on his eggs and hashbrowns and he was ruining my morning.
