Lord of the Rings Series -- Amazon (2 Viewers)

A gift best given soon to this disrespectful cash-grab.

This show is a case study in the hubris of less talented writers.

You have a prolific author that the showrunners are not as talented as on any level. We know this because they wouldn't be writing TV scripts if they were. Their job is to faithfully as possible adapt the story. It doesn't have to be point for point. It should have a point when you deviate though.

Why is the High King of the Noldor now an oathbreaker, and asking Elrond to be one as well?

Why is Galadriel so dumb, and abrasive? This character is literally older then Numenor itself.

I love the CGI of Numenor. It's the only part of this show I've rewatched.

Stopped reading after this incredibly faulty logic

What's faulty about it? You are adapting works of people who are clearly better writers. You can ask D&D who are better writers between them, and George. Heck, George started out as a tv writer, and then moved into books as he matured. I'm not saying that writing tv makes you bad, but you adapting the works of someone who is clearly a better author. You really shouldn't run amok with plots, and characters.

It must be faulty logic I'm using when talking about adapting one of the most highly esteemed books, and authors vs a tv show with a IMDB rating lower then Big Bang Theory.

The Elven King that wants to backstab the dwarves is the central character that unites everyone to fight Sauron at the end of this age. The last Alliance of Elves, and Men is largely his doing. These writers don't even need to read the books, watch the movies to see how this universe deals with Oathbreakers.

This new Mithril plotline is a eye rolling moment that doesn't fit anywhere in the universe. The whole first age of the story is about elves screwing up everything trying to take back shiny objects.[/spoilers]

I’ll finish out the season, but it’s really starting to lose my interest. Hopefully it actually goes somewhere with 3 left.

Lol. TV show writers can’t live up to the standard of THE GREATEST FANTASY WRITER OF ALL TIME? No way! So disappointing.

I love Brandon Sanderson…but even he would agree that he’s no Tolkien.
That wasn’t his logic
And by the logic you posit, there should be no adaptations of Tolkien ever

They spent a billion dollars on a show I never hear anybody talk about. Discounting the ones that were raging about it before it even premiered, I mean.

That was my point. It’s insane to hold someone to the standard of Tolkien. It’d be like saying if your aren’t as good of a QB as Brady that you’re worthless.

That's a bad analogy. In football terms, it would be like George Seifert thinking he can reinvent the West Coast offense. You are working in a system created by another. It's hubris to reinvent the wheel. You want to add to it? That's fine, but it needs to fit in the existing framework.

Are you guys intentionally missing the point?

Your analogy is actually really poor. The point is establishing a standard based on impossible expectations. With the standards that are set it would be pointless to ever try to adapt works of art

You’re actually baiting your own trap - football defenses continue to evolve so offensive frameworks and philosophies must as well

Cultural and social more have evolved tremendously in the century + since Tolkien wrote- heck they even changed enough in his lifetime that he continually revised to adapt to societal changes
If y’all are more precious with Tolkien’s writing than he was, THAT might be the point being missed

This isn't an adaptation, it's fanfic. Bad fanfic since any actual fan would consider the whole "mithril or we die" thread to be unbelievably stupid.
The idea that Elvish souls could dim is so far out of anything remotely like canon I'm shocked they actually approved it.
