Lord of the Rings Series -- Amazon (4 Viewers)

I agree with that spoiler within the spoiler.

While watching the episode, I seriously thought Adar was going to be Sauron. Still possibly could be, but I doubt it. I really do think that Halbrand is going to be evil, and it isn't obvious. However, the fact he really got, dare I say, Obsessed about blacksmithing, and how incredibly powerful he was fighting off those guys. He was breaking bones a bit easier than I'd expect. I was thinking he was an Aragorn type, but man, he was brutal. He's also pretty wise politically, better than Galadriel is.

My money is on Halbrand becoming the Witch King of Angmar

ugh. sooooooo much hope, faith, wanting to be good, i don't know what has failed me the most. oh yeah. i tried to watch again, and.. well, the fact that a tree trunk can act better than the actors standing still, for every forking scene, is off-putting.

at least for a tree trunk, eventually their bark starts to fall off, which is infinitely more entertaining than watching the quest for motionless capturing. yeah, action-less still framing to da extremez.

seriously, if you aren't going to move, or show any sign of, uh.. being alive? at least flail around. it would be better for the weak plot than scarecrow'in.

y'all need to quit complaining about the canon and start to wonder where the fork the shows budget was actually focused on, which is rhetorical because it is obviously the scene 'spice'. yes, i mean big budget hills and sheet.

i'll be honest, the story has had zero impact on this. i don't know wtf is going on other than "what the fork is this?" moments.

fork it. i tried twice. too many jokes to insert. i'd still like to hear them.

Well, those same folks must have hated the LOTR and Hobbit movie series because they certainly weren’t true to the books, not even close, not giving examples as they are numerous and obvious to anyone who has read them….I mean, it‘s just supposed to be entertainment is how I look at it….otherwise I would have stopped watching after Fellowship….Cheers….

The changes Jackson made were minor in comparison, mostly forced by the change from page to film. I did have a few complaints which I voiced at the time, but they weren't such egregious changes that they altered the entire story.

RoP is being created out of whole cloth with little to no regard for canon. It's the same places and the same names, but a totally different tale.

For having spent that much money, the plate mail shouldn't so obviously look like plastic.

Actual dwarfs playing dwarves. (Not that I'm against inclusion, but Mr Jackson showed us how to do forced perspective a couple decades ago.)

They could have hired the OG trilogy costume designers, or poached the GoT lady whose work is amazing. I agree it's ridiculous for the price tag.

My biggest issue with the series so far is Galadriel. I'm told she is awesome with all her titles, etc. She is a moron, or worse in almost every scene. It's a poorly written character.

Also, some of the dialogue is horrible. I'm surprised people aren't memeing about the sea on here.

At least we got to see were all the money went last episode.

"The sea is always right."

Man, they're in for a RUDE surprise.

And I agree. They should have put Galadriel in more of a Gandalf role...the wise, older (way older...thousands of years older), subtly powerful leader who can swing a sword, but mostly doesn't have to.

On the topic of canon. Her conversation with Halbrand about who started the war. It's like a convo between a WWII American and a Japanese. "We lost the war" "We started it." Uh, if by 'started it' you mean actually declared war after being surprise attacked.

Does canon matter to you? Like, at all.
If so, spare your blood pressure.
If you don't care, it's very pretty, worth a few hours and orders of magnitude better than Wheel of Time.
It's important, but it's not THE most important. I'm not a guy who critiques TV/Movies by how closely it follows the written text, as long as we're hitting the high notes. I can enjoy the cinematic versions of a story on their own merits.

I was disappointed by Wheel of Time. I don't enjoy when they assume I'm dumb and can't figure out a term or backstory on my own, so they have to stop the flow of the episode to try and explain it to me in a way that's supposed to seem natural. Even with that, it somehow feels as if everyone is just going through the motions instead of telling me a story. The production values were of a lessor quality than anticipated as well, but perhaps I was just spoiled by The Expanse?

Boy it really grates on me when fiction refers to “forces of evil”. Sounds like fan fiction written by a 13 year old. These stories should be more nuanced by now. “We’re battling evil”. What does that even mean?

can't tell if you're kidding
that's literally what the story is about - like Star Wars and much epic fantasy, it's white hat vs black hat
this world has consequences for moral transgressions (as opposed to GoT/HotD where there's consequences for moral steadfastness)

From what I remember of LOTR, that pretty in line with Tolkien, although there are certain allusions he makes, as to what makes evil, e.g. destroying and perverting nature, and seeking out power for its own sake. There was also an anti-industrial theme. If you read the Silmarillion, the bad guys are bad because they rebelled against Eru Illuvatar (God, basically). I think Tolkien was trying to "hide" this in his earlier novels as he trying not to offend the secular portion of his audience. I'm not sure how the show will handle this, I don't think they've mentioned Eru yet.

I'm enjoying it. I've watched each episode more than once, which is more than I can say for a lot of other shows. Visually it is stunning... other than that cgi hyena-looking creature which was kind of cringe. The scenes I like the most are with the dwarves and harfoots

You made it through Silmarillion?! :clapbig:
I think you may be the only person I know of that has.
