N/S Marcus Davenport - Vikings $13 Million Star Lacks Desire (1 Viewer)

I remember an interview with Dav, when he said that he was still trying to find a way to be aggressive. That comment took me off guard. Dude has played a gladiator sport for the longest time. His position is one that seeks out/hunts down a QB/RB/etc. He constantly is being blocked from said hunt. How is he that old and still trying to find a way to be more aggressive? I’m not saying that he should be a T-Sizzle, but geez man, at least show a little bit of passion when going toe to toe with the opposition.
That’s why I’ve always said “We need Dawgs on defense”. None of this passive type energy. If a player has a passive demeanor, then his talents better be undeniable, and obviously more visible than his peers. Which Dav’s was not. Plus, how do you share a field, locker room, and position group with Cam freaking Jordan and not learn more than 1 move? Make it make sense?!?! Yup, I would 100% agree with him lacking desire. Some of these big dudes are just “Big Tender”. Can’t win with those dudes
I agree, a guy doesn't have to be a "thug", so to speak to play the game at a high level but let's be honest, to play this particular game, you have to be wired differently. Apparently he needs to be rewired. Just saying

Meanwhile Hendrickson is a perennial pro bowler nd has 15 sacks this season. Nice job Saints, nice job.

There was 1 DE worth trading up for that year and Davenport wasn’t him.

This should surprise no one here. He’s the exact opposite of Cam Jordan in this regard and would rather be at home watching anime marathons.
Yep. Which is his right, for sure. Dude just isn’t in to football. No clue how that didn’t come across during his interview process.

I also see some folks saying he’s lost desire after battling all of these injuries, I don’t think he had any before the injuries. Football just isn’t his passion, nothing wrong with that.

I know one thing that is 100% certain about Davenport. We passes on Lamaar Jackson to draft him and nobody can doubt Lamaar's desire!
I remember when the trade was announced, the instant reaction from the talking heads was that the Saints were going to take Jackson. Huge whiff.

Who was the one worth trading up for?

Hendrickson was drafted the year before, and we let walk in 2020 along with 8 other starters because we were $100m over the cap.

There was never a binary choice between the two guys. The only time the team had a make a decision on Hendrickson was whether to use the franchise tag on him or Marcus Williams, who eventually left because we were still in cap hell the following year.

They didn’t just let him walk because they couldn’t find the money. According to Nick Underhill they did not think he was worth the money even if they had it. Which goes back to suspect talent evaluation.

I didn’t know this. Ouch. Whomever is in charge of scouting edge players needs to be let go. Or reassigned. Truly.

Trey is a way better pass rusher than any of the below.

Dav
Turner
Foskey. It’s very early on Foskey but isn’t looking good so far. The other two have had plenty of time. One good one out of the bunch (it seems) and we let him walk and don’t think he’s worth the money. Ouch.

Suspect talent evaluation by who? The same people who drafted him??
