Marquez Callaway (1 Viewer)

You know I was going to have this long rebuttal but I'm not. Fact is I'm not responding to you or anyone that resorts to name calling, after today I'm not doing it either. If I get caught doing it I want to get called out on it. Second time today the devil(not you) tried to come at me, but he going to hold this L today and everyday after. We all on the same side at the end of the day.
If you were a superhero, your super power would be "you throw one he77 of a hissy fit!!!" :ROFLMAO:

Deonte Harty is definitely in the mix, but his role is a little unique. People always talk about Taysom Hill being playing that "joker," but that's really Harty. So in terms of being a down-to-down traditional slot, can he do it (will he pop in at the Y, for example)?

Absolutely.

But I don't consider him a traditional slot WR. He does a lot more and the skillset is different. So you're still really talking about two different roles when comparing him and Callaway, even if they both spend some time at the Y.

If Harty stays healthy, his playmaker role is only going to expand. But given his health issues, he's not really the guy you want to consistently use inside to get those 'dirty yards.'

Gotta agree with your last point, Coach Dan.

A couple of seasons ago, when the Bucs played us in the dome in the playoffs, Tampa had NO ANSWER for Harris (Harty) in that game… NONE!

That’s why they took a cheap shot (speared with a helmet-to-helmet) and took him out. Yes, Harry’s size would be problematic if the Saints targeted him for the “dirty yards,”

:gosaints:

This is all I been trying to say. Its not Madden, you can't make the player better. BTW you go look at majority of his passes he caught he was wide open, he didn't beat his man one on one.
Calloway had plenty of games were he was nonexistent or his catches were few and far in between. His stats are accumulative of a 17 game season not indicative of an ability to be a consistent weapon in an offense.

This does not make him a bad player just he has shown us his ability and you see why he was undrafted he is not a front line player though capable of the occasional big play.

No idea the obsession with Calloway. The comparisons to Hopkins need to stop.

He looked terrible last year, ranking in the bottom of the league in separation per route!!

Rose colored glasses are strong in this thread.
I think as Widge said he can be a valuable #3 or #4.
💯 agree with you that comparing him to Hopkins is very odd. He’s not even in the same stratosphere as Hop or any true #1 imo. Love him as a depth guy tho and he will benefit from not being focused on.

I absolutely love what Harty brings to the table, he’s so electric. Sadly I think he will stay banged up given his size.

I'm not saying he is trash, I think people should temper your expectations of him. But let's wait and see how he looks in camp and we can go from there.

"This year will be different syndrome"

We know who he is, we see his limitations, he's not a bad player but there is a reason WR was a priority in the draft, he's already a depth piece as Thomas and Olave are the projected starters.

I remember last year that Route God was talking about how raw Callaway was, but very crafty.

I think Callaway could thrive in the slot if he can develop his route running. He gotta develop his hand strength too.

Right now... Harris is the front runner for #3. Which isn't ideal. Tiny slot options tend to disappear when you give them terrible sideline routes*cough Payton* with no inside leverage over 6ft DBs.

If Harris isn't doing bubble, slugo, go's, comeback, curls, drags, or crossers. You're playing 10 on 11 football. Which is stupid. So many times last year, we had Harris doing some terrible concepts like outside digs asking for pick 6s that it drove me crazy.

Assuming we are now set at WR, I expect we'll see Callaway as the third unless Harty is in to help blow the top off of the D ( I've said it before, I can't wait to see Harty and Olave run deep crossing routes with AK41 and CGM underneath). We'll probably also see him in certain sets where the Saints want to utilize his blocking skills or in 4 WR sets.

So, I think he'll get used plenty, but CGM and Olave are going to be our 1 & 2.

TQS and one of the other guys will be situational.

It should be

MT
Olave
Harris
Callaway

As your premier group. Harris runs really crisp route that Callaway can't do at the moment. His curls are absolutely ankle breaking on DBs. He just got a limited catch radius and nullified if he doesn't have the proper inside leverage to the ball.

Callaway was an UDFA and has accumulated over 900 yards in 28 games. He was put in a bad spot last season, asked to be a #1. I had hoped he could capitalize on the opportunity, but let’s face it, missing Thomas hurt, and Calllaway wasn’t ready. He may never be a top receiver, but he has exceeded realistic expectations and should be able to shine going against lesser corners, as he has flashed the ability to do. As a #3, he should do fine.

It will be situational as I implied. You're not going to get blocking from Harty or Olave, so you will need a different WR in many sets where blocking is required. A 3 WR set consisting of CGM, Harty, and Olave will be problematic from that perspective. There won't be a "premiere" group. Just situational sets depending on what the Saints want to accomplish on that play.
